Yes it does, philosophically speaking. No, but seriously speaking, think about the sentence itself, not about Trott and what he did: "Having a mid life crisis (not related to trott or to a haircut) is not a choice". Academically speaking is referring to the fact that what I just stated in that sentence is a theory found in academic papers. After we have all of this, then I made the "joke" (that doesn't seem so funny now that I explained it) of inserting Trott and relating to the OP that said "choice". In other words, it's a joke, good, bad, whatever... aka. not to be taken seriously. So, "it makes it so", not because I placed "academically speaking" necessarily, but because it's supported by science. The sentence is sound in and of itself, however, it's relationship to Trott and the context is a joke... so It's not serious.

Regarding the tesla alarm going off when charging.. It could be due to a software glitch. Try rebooting the car (not even joking) by holding both scrollbuttons down for around 10sec.. Hey, you wanted a modern computerized car, you got a car that needs rebooting.
