I remember when we were introduced to pirouettes from 5th, we always did a grand plié and then turned. That's how we learned to mainatin our center, because if we were off-center, we would already fall out of the grand plié.

When my teacher was teaching my class these for grade 5 istd we did 4 relevès to each corner in a circle then 2 then a turn. It helped with spotting and maintaining a strong relevè at the same time.

I still have difficulty with this turn. haha I use to do ballet 5 years ago, and I just got back into it after that break. I had some health issues, had a baby, and had some more health issues. I in fact still have health issues, but can't really do anything about them at this point in time. ( Type one Diabetes complications) You inspire me! I guess thats what I'm trying to say. I hope I can get back up to pointe but for some reason my body has almost forgotten everything. I know the terms, I know the movements. My body doesn't. I am 23 years old and someday hope to perform, but the chances of that are slim. I think I might be too old to even think about doing it. But the hope is still there. Thanks for making these videos.

Thank you is such a good information! I don’t know about only using the arm of the supporting side to set the shoulders in motion it looks that when you are doing it you are opening the arm of the pase leg way more than you said at the explanation! Anyways thank you for these videos!!!

Hi Katie I was wondering for the past couple of weeks I haven't been able to do the things I was once able to do for example I can't even land a solid double turn on my bad side which for me is very easy. I haven't been injured or anything but still can't do things I was once able if you have any advice for me I would truly appreciate it

I didn't know this video existed, but am so excited about it. I have sooo much trouble with pirouettes from 5th, more so than any other turns, even fouettes. This is a lot of good advice and I'll tray to apply it next class. However, I do have a question. Can you put weight on the working leg during the plie? My teacher has told me not to, but without it I never have enought power, it's almost then just like a releve on one leg. Is this correct? Any help would be appreciated.

Pirouettes stress me out. Doing both sides in fourth is easier for me. In fifth, my right is pretty good but I have so much trouble doing left :( We have a gala in a few weeks and I have to do a left pirouette in fifth. So I’ll be practicing like crazy!

Hi Kathryn! Thank you so much for your videos! I have hyperextended knees but I am not sure how to work with them. Should I "fake" a straight leg? My teacher says the knee has to be very strong and the leg as straight as possible but whenever I try to staighten my knees my legs get wiggly. But whenever I let my leg locked in too long my knee starts to hurt. Do you have any tips for me? xx
@kritee4 жыл бұрын
S.E. W. I'm not Kathryn but hopefully this can help. Also i know this is rly late but if anyone else has this problem maybe I can help I have that problem too. The way I deal with it is just straighten my leg as much as possible when I do like balancing stuff. Basically though, just dont overthink. If you feel like your leg should be fully straight, make it fully straight and if you think that it should just be the same as everyone else, make it the same as everyone else.

Hi Kathryn! I would really like your help. I am not on pointe yet,so i wear regular ballet flats and my exam is coming up but i have 2 shoes. One of them is a size 4 and the other one is size 4.5. The size 4 one fits me properly but doesn't make my arches look nice, the 4.5 one shows my arches really well but are a bit baggy , which one should i use? My arches are really bad by the way. thx for reading this

idk why but when i pull up and shoot up on pirouettes i tend to land tilted but when i lean forward for the pirouettes i have perfect landing. is that weird?
@katiethurston47909 жыл бұрын
I'm just a student so I don't really know, but maybe when you try to shoot up you're actually leaning a bit back without knowing it. I would just hold your pirouette position beside a mirror, and make sure you're not leaning back.
