Hello Amelia! Imagine me sitting in a car, in traffic jam, just open my KZbin App on my mobile and I see myslef! I think people in cars near me could have heared my scream! I didn't expect that you will make video with me, I am so happy now, you can't even imagine. I watched it about 3 times now and still feel like a superstar :-) I loved your comments from an email, the first ride was quite fast with my legs on her, I didn't give up and then the things changed dramatically. When I started to work on leg aid acceptance I noticed that she doesn't respond, especially on outside leg. Just like you said in a movie. You are right in everyting. Her haunches were everywhere, on the right, on the left, but not where I wanted them to be. Now we are working on this, and it's like we broke into another stage after your tips. In moments when she is really bending between my legs, not running, listening to me - I feel like I'm riding a very nice horse, not my (night)mare. I want to thank you once again, it's amazing I could get a comment from such a RIDER like YOU!

Thanks Amelia. This video on hot horses is perfect for me and my fellow right now. I’m sure I have been guilty of pulling on both twins in canter - he fights me and wants to go fast and unbalanced. You make it so clear how drifting the haunches avoids all of that. Thanks as ever. 😊

This was so helpful for me! My Gypsy pushes inward- always trying to lean in and tighten his circles instead of staying straight in his body and maintaining a wide circle. Then, his canter is very fast and he bulldozes through my half halts. I’m very much a novice, as is he, so it’s a long process. This video had some great reminders. It’s hard to stay with him as he moves with a lot of force, heavy in the forehand, and quite determined.

I loved hearing you comment throughout the ride. What stood out to me [and I will apply it tomorrow morning] is to keep the outside leg back. even on the trot circles. I see my horse and I doing these same things so this was very helpful. So glad the rider sent you a video and that you are instructing us through it!

Very nice of you Amelia to help this young lady. She is doing a beautiful job with her horse. I have the same problem with my horse, so this video was really helpful to me as well. I am going to try lunging and see if it gets him slowed down. I am from Montrose, MN.
@konieami6 жыл бұрын
Lunging helped us a lot! She is better on lunge than under saddle ( would prefer the opposite but well... ) But the main problem is with my legs, when I touch her she usually gets like dinoanimals.pl/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Rozdymkowate_8.jpg Now after Amelia's comments it's a lot better, but still not ideal, but I get her more like: dinoanimals.pl/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Rozdymkowate_12.jpg

My perspective as a fellow ammy and absolutely feel free to disregard, just my humble observations. It almost seems as though the horse is over-bitted and is avoiding contact by being really gumby in the neck and avoiding the aids, perhaps experimenting with a different noseband as well which I am going to try on my OTTB. And for my OTTB I think horses get fast in the canter because they are not strong enough through the topline to maintain balance and so their only release of pressure is to go faster. Obviously this is resolved with your same suggestions of lots of transitions, etc. It also appears in the video that the mare could be built more downhill which poses its own conformational challenges, but of course videos are deceiving! My gelding is really assisted in his canter when we do plenty of half-halts, he's gotten really responsive to them and he can really lift his front end and come back to me with little rein involvement and I Was really proud of him our last lesson.

I’m so excited to use the advice from this video! I’m working with a little mare who is built completely different than the horse in the video but I’m having a lot of the same issues with loosing the haunches and rushing in the canter. At the moment I’m mostly trying to build muscle on her especially in her butt because it is very weak. I also have a gelding that I work with that I really need to get accepting my leg because it takes a whole working ride to get him to relax and slow down in just his trot. I loved this video and will definitely reference it again throughout my training adventures!

Need this! Thanks! My turbo charged boy has a great canter, but can over power the front end I think and it's challenging for me to keep him balanced and keep from swinging outward on the circle. I placed "blocs" at the point of the circle where he falls out and it helped on the lunge, so will see how it works under saddle today. Hip replacement for me in 3 weeks should help. Interesting how they placed cushioning on the arena supports. I only have railroad ties for a "barrier".

Hey Judy, I have the same problem with my ex race horse, he’s so fast but I’m trying to slow him down a lot. My trainer says I get tense and hold the reins a lot and I just feel like I was doing that. I guess I just need to figure out how to feel holding the reins without pulling. Or maybe if that’s not the case to slow down a fast horse, what did you do to finally get your mare to slow down???
