What Do 4L, N, 2H, And 4H Mean On 4 Wheel Drive-Lesson For Beginners

In this video, I go over the shifter that you might find on a 4 wheel drive vehicle. This is commonly found on pickup trucks and SUVs that are equipped with 4 wheel drive, which is also referred to as 4x4. The simple shifter is used to shift between 2 wheel drive and 4 wheel drive, and is also used to disconnect the drivetrain. With that being said, it is not used nearly as much as the standard shifter to get from park to reverse and drive and so forth, so not many people know what the meaning of all of the letters, numbers, and symbols are. I made this video to tel you exactly what they mean and some common situations in which they would be regularly used.

If you are going up hill a little offroad up hill, what is the best option, 4L or 4H??

If you want to go fast and thr trail os not so challenging you can choose 4H...else if you have challenging way up and you want to feel more power than speed go for 4L

yes. 4H is the opposite, would be like putting it in manual 4-5th gear.

its in neutral so the wheels spin completely freely and arent connected to the engine

@@iliilil5761 Finally!! Someone who has answered my question! My Freind told me to leave my 4WD in Neutral when not 4x4 and just driving around town, but others have said put in 2H, now i know what leaving it in N does. Thank you :)

Dont tow in 4L..4 low is for low speed high torque 4 wheel driving..never use 4L on a sealed road or you will kill your truck😂😂😂
