I was asked about 4WD Gear Select and which gear we use in different terrains. This is an explanation video on how to use and operate the Mitsubishi Super Select 2 4 Wheel Drive system found on the Pajero, Shogun, Montero, Triton MQ, Pajero Sport and Pajero IO.
The video explains how to use each gear offroad and in the desert . Subscribe to get alerts on the next video!
Video clarification: on the Pajero Gen 4 with super select II you can switch from 2H, 4H, 4hlc when moving under 100kph. However in the Pajero gen 3 with super select 1, you can only switch between 2H and 4H when moving under 100kph.
Part 2: Rear Diffrential Lock (R/D Lock) Explained in the following video: • How to use R/D Lock? [...

Hi Ibrahim Our driving is mostly just the sand and most seniors in our pajero group drive 4llc. Very good explanation, thank you! I am considering between a Hilux and L200/Triton. I am more inclined towards Mitsubishi due to full time 4WD useable on roads. I have a couple supplemental questions, perhaps you would be able to advise me. 1 - I was not able to find technical data of force distribution range in 4H - 33/67 is default, but can it really go only to 50/50 or even more (such as 10/90 or 90/10) - I have read somewhere that this is possible. 2 - As the VCU uses a liqid that solidifies in high temperatures, is it a problem if there is 35 degrees plus and the group is up to 50 - can it start influencing the liquid? And what about extreme cold, 30 below zero - is the liquid and functionality affected? 3 - Also, can you use the 4h lock on very splippery roads, like in severe storms when the road has large pools of water, or when severe snow conditions?

Hello thank you for the messages. My understanding is the 4H defaults at 33.67 and moves all the way to 50.50. Not aware if it can do 10.90. We use our cars here in extreme heat and have never seen it impact the operation of the VCU. As for driving in locked mode it should only be done in offroad conditions. In rain always recommended to be on 4H so the car can turn properly on normal roads. Check out my website for specialised Pajero Parts. We have traction control on off module at the moment and gear paddle shifters coming soon! www.cronos4x4.com

In my mitsubishi I haven't had any issues with VCU in temperatures below -30c. In Canada, I'll leave it in 4h for snowy roads, unless I'm mashing through 20-40cm of frozen crud. For the most conditions, 4h is totally capable.

I have a Pajero and l think the 2H, and 4H is excellent with the 33/67 spit and quite polished traction control. The biggest downfall and often complained about is the inability the operate in 4L with the centre diff unlocked. This makes it difficult to turn with axel windup where high torque is required on reasonable good traction surfaces. ie retrieving a boat or reversing a trailer, particularly with the manual transmission where clutch preservation is desirable. Should be 2H, 4H and 4L with a separate diff lockup button. (Personal opinion). Why is reverse gear such a high ratio anyway, who backs up a such speed?

getting myself a new pajero... i have a question, the parking in my bldg which is underground is rather steep and i have heard cars screeching.... having said that those are normal sedans.. the slope is also a bit slippery... should i engage the 4x4 gear to get out of the parking.... or with the 3.5 would it be okay on its own.

Use 4H for your everyday ride. Much safer. You will notice that 4H mode is perfect even for most offroad conditions - snow, sand, mud.

Hey Buddy, Awesome explanation. Only thing still a mystery is the Rear D/Lock, where do you use it
@astro2456
@astro2456 3 жыл бұрын
@Mathew Hangaika R/D lock is rear diff lock, optional feature, you might or might not have it. I f you engage it , you will have equal power going to both rear wheels, usually when you don’t engage R/D lock especially when traction control is off, the wheel which has less traction spins freely and the wheel that touch the ground does not spin.

My experience with fuel economy is that there is no difference between 2H and 4H. When you engage 4 H the front wheel hub locks engage. In 2H they still use the same energy to spin the front wheels via the pushing effect of the engaged rear wheels.

Yep, not much difference in real world driving in terms of fuel usage between 2H and 4H. 4H is effectively AWD. In 2H, the front tail shaft is disconnected at the transfer case and the RHS output at the diff. Both front driveshafts still spin with the wheels and the LHS drives the diff.

@@vladguan Hi thanks for the feedback. I am still under the impression that all the transmission elements still spin in 2wd and 4wd on a Paj superselect transmission. The only difference is the front hubs are locked or not. My local tyre guy has a new Hilux and said they had the same system for engaging 4wd

@@babagandu you still can however it can be dangerous when you’re driving all 4 wheels at the same time. I think because the differential lock on may not stop a tyre from moving when it is needed which may make the forces on the car uneven which could cause some type of accident.

I currently own the 2008 3L V6 GLS pajero. Recently I've started sand duning here in the middle east. I was doing it previously on 4H. There were some times when im climbing a dune on an incline and the power was very low to the wheels. How much of a benefit will 4LLC provide in terms on incline push ? Also will turning ACS off help while dune bashing ? Sorry im new to this :)
@SandTrack
@SandTrack 5 ай бұрын
Hello so I personally drive in the desert with 4lLLc. I personally find the power output ideal in low range for desert driving. Also make sure to turn off ASC. However traction is not fully off on yhe Pajero, you will also need traction kill switch which can be found here www.cronos4x4.com and also 2008 has a gear upshift issue in manual model it can be sorted with www.speedecu.com

Hello, First of all, thank you for this great video! I need a bit of advice from you. I was looking all around and it seems no person have an answer for me. Would you recommend the Pajero 3.2 or the 2.8 diesel? I am looking for a used 2010 through 2014, however I am not sure what the difference is between the 2 and when looking Google/Forums/etc there is no data. The only difference I found is the price, where the 3.2 is more expensive. Where I live there is a petrol version V6 3.0, I know is thirsty; any thoughts on the petrol engine in the Pajero? Thanks a lot!

Hi bro I recommend if you plan to offroad get the largest engine size for most power. If its meant to be a road driving car then smaller engine is fine. Check my pajero dedicate site for parts www.cronos4x4.com
