This case back had CLEARLY been prepared for the purpose of this video. I'd like to see him try using a ball with a very tight case back and see how far he gets.

Thank you. I've finally been able to to remove the back. I wore thick leather gloves and finally had to resort to using a pair of vice grips on the needle nose pliers to exert the torque necessary to loosen the back. It had been secured by a watchsmith ; a very strong one! Finding one these days is like looking for super 8 tapes.
@neilshastri11843 жыл бұрын
Took inspiration from the first part of the video to open the back of the watch. Instead of the stress ball, used one of the 3M picture hanging tapes (the adhesive end). Worked like a charm, and no scratches.

Well I owe YOU an apology - I thought this was dumb as hell... but it actually worked! I used the rubber ball, and previously NOTHING worked. I even soaked the watch overnight in liquid wrench (for removing old/tight/rusted parts), and still nothing. Rubber ball? Well, I had to really crank on it, but it actually came right off. Kudos. So yeah, before I put a negative review or a thumbs down, I'll at least TRY it, and lo and behold, it worked fantastic. KUDOS TO YOU!

I really cannot believe it. I have been sitting up here with 3 watches that have been dead for at least a year because I could not figure out how to get the backs off of them to change the battery. I don't know why I never found this video before, but I happened upon it just now. I was mad skeptical at first. Yeah I saw that you were able to do it, but I doubted whether I could get the same results. Nevertheless, I found me a pair a scissors and tried it on one of my watches and low and behold, the scissors trick worked. It was tricky because I used the tips of a large pair of scissors to open my watch and my grip kept slippin. But on the third try I managed to get it off without making any major scratches. I am quite pleased. Thanks a bunch for posting this video. At this time I am trying to save money any way I can so I am grateful that this video helped saved me some. Thanks. :D

Thanks for this video. Managed to open my watch with the needle tip plier. My plier initially also didn't open sufficiently, but then did with some more force. I think also the plier in your video can be opened more with some force. It has by far not reached its mechanical end stop. This wide opening is not needed in typical use, but you can fully open it with some more force. This is what I observe with many of my pliers. Hope this helps, as you can cut yourself easily with sharp scissors, and also may damage your scissors. 👍

The needle-nosed pliers did the trick for me. Just be careful not to let them slip and scratch the back of your watch. I looked at using some dull-pointed scissors, but they seemed more likely to scratch the back. In my case, the nubby ends of the needle-nose pliers fit the notches on my watch nearly perfectly. I wouldn't have used this method on an expensive or heirloom watch, of course.
