actually video is 8 years old. this is a old series. the interactions of this expert with the bear Hope and Lilly might've made her abandon her on cub. Also. This bear was killed by another human, sadly. Perhaps it is best not to make wild animals think they can trust humans, when we're the most dangerous animals on the planet.

Spoiler alert: This video is about 8 years old. I have no idea why they are resurrecting this story especially since it ends tragically for Hope. In 2011, Hope wanders near a bait trap and is shot and killed by a hunter... even though she was collared. It is not illegal for Minnesota hunters to shoot a collared bear and while the hunter who killed Hope admitted to doing it, he offered no remorse for shooting a collared, juvenile bear.

I also thought it was rather strange for them to be uploading this again. I remember back in the day when this was happening there was a lot of talk amongst hunters, several of them specifically stated they wanted to kill Hope, purely for spite. They didn't like the attention Lynn Rogers was bringing nor what he was doing with the bears. He had asked them if they could please not shoot any of his collared bears, especially Hope since she was quite well known. But since like you said, it's not illegal to do so, someone happily did it anyway. No care at all that she was still a juvenile, fairly used to people yet had not caused any reported problems. She seemed a very sweet natured little bear.

K8Krunchies : yep, I remember the jokes about Hope jerky etc. The fact that Hope was not very leery of people definitely didn't help her. I just don't see how there is any sport in ambushing bears coming in for food laid out and I can't understand how any hunter can be proud of killing Hope or any bear for that matter. We don't eat bears. I understand the thrill of outfoxing an animal and all that, but one's death does not do anything to better the average hunter.

The last episode of this I watched I was concerned for the man's safety and I got stick for mentioning that. Now I'm concerned that this interaction has probably had something to do with the Mother abandoning her cub, and I can see no benefits from the further interactions of this team. Why on earth would you be hand feeding a bear, you are making that bear associate an easy meal with humans! Surely you can see this. This is bad film making, you are supposed to observe, not interact.

danrdgreen i also commented on the last video that i thought his touching of the cub caused the mother to abandon the cub. She was obviously agitated when he touched her, then she bit him, and then immediately abandoned the cub.. honestly, he should take her to a sanctuary. She's going to grow to be a danger to humans, and she'll probably die if she's not fed by him constantly. She's too young to be out alone like this.. this whole ordeal is very troubling..

If this cub really needed help you shouldn't have hand fed it. Getting bears used to human contact is very bad for both the bears in the area and humans. What you should have done if it really help was put some food out in a remote area where bears roam at a time when bears could not see you. It would be best to plant hedges and trees that could provide produce for the bears in areas where human don't visit.

Take her to a zoo if you want to save her. How will this bear survive a winter? Especially carrying a radio collar around. Best case you have an human habituated bear that will get shot.
