Helping Her With Transitions And Dysregulation

Our girl with autism is really struggling with a big transition. We have seen similar dysregulation situations in the past due to changes in schedule or environments. We are working through it with her and days are slowly getting better. #autism #weefam

Definitely dealing with a lot these days too we moved out of our house n had to change schools as well so it’s been pretty bad with transitions a lot of meltdowns aggression u name it so it’s been pretty tough but we will get through it #Autismstrong💪🏼

I didn’t know you moved and changed schools. We are out here rooting for you guys. It’s tough. We are lucky that as she’s gotten older she’s developing some self soothing skills so meltdowns and aggression aren’t as frequent but we have so been there. Keep fighting the good fight mama ❤️❤️

The Wee Family yes it’s been crazy over here it was unexpected we weren’t planning on moving we didn’t have much of a choice though n he was doing so well at the other school so now it feels like we r starting all over again 😣 and yeah he usually self soothes himself but I think it’s just way to much for him n it got so bad one day that I started crying because the way I saw him hurt as soon as we moved out the house he caught pneumonia n then when he got better he want back to school just to only do one week at school to catch the flu so all of that in one thanks u guys

Awww, sweet girl! I'm so sorry you've been having such a difficult time with these changes. I know it's so hard on mom and dad too 😕 I went through it with my daughter and going through it with our granddaughter with high functioning autism now. Transitions can throw her into a complete melt down very quickly. She is just about the same age as Braylee, a few months older. We are figuring out things we can help her with when we see the meltdown coming. I hope and pray Braylee will continue to improve. It's so painful to watch them struggling. Hugs, Lori

She generally does well but I think it’s more of a nagging drain that a full out struggle for her if that makes sense. We have definitely seen much worse phases with a ton of meltdowns but a few here and there aren’t too bad. I’m thinking maybe she’s developing skills that help her try to regulate herself so they’re not as frequent even through these transitions.

You do great with your patience . We understand our grandson just turned 13 and started mastering writing and addition. Daily, hourly struggles are real please bare with them.

That’s so awesome that he’s mastering those skills!! The struggles happen and are harder on the kids than us. It helps keep things in perspective

Have a similar thing going on with Abby lately and we have discovered that she has her six year molars coming through, not sure if that's what is making her disregulated but it could be contributing. We also think it could be the weather since it's starting to get really hot here again. Hope she feels better soon 💖💖💖

Transitions are still hard for us sometimes. She has made a lot of progress with them but still has days. Hang in there! It is always hard to see the struggles

@@TheWeeFamily so...the insomnia is what bothers me the most...and it seems nothing is working. We were on only Melatonin...increased the dose several times but still wasn't getting more thatln 3 or 4 hours-pre official diagnosis. Now Clonidine..and this is night 3 and we've been up since 2am. I can go up on the clonidine but I'm afraid this isn't going to work either. We've had one night in 10 that she slept thru the night...I feel like a zombie at this point and her days are worse with lack of sleep...🤦‍♀️

My boy has the most meltdowns at home. I think it is because he knows our reaction will be calm and accepting, and he isn't always sure how folks in other places will react. I hope that is it, anyway.

I aslo have tics i make grunting noise all the time and do this thing with my toes where i bend the all time and i just starting walking on tip toes my mum is not going to get me tested i did this thing with my lips where i would flick my hand on my lips and make a noise i have a intellectual disability since kindergarten i am 13 now now almost 14 almost in year 8 and i hate people touching me i have ocd but my friends touch me all the time to annoy me

Hi guys! Hope Braylee is feeling a little better ❤️. I dont know if you have ever used pictograms or a pecs book to help her know what is coming and visualise the day/part of the day/schedule? When my son is deregulised it always helps him to get a better grip on the day. I dont know if that would help Braylee with the transitions of a new school better? She is doing much better. We have used visuals often but when she’s super dysregulated she gets angry and starts changing them to fit what she wants or how she thinks it should be. We have been talking her through a lot. She generally knows the routine.

Does she respond to social stories? Some kids find them helpful to read before transitions, especially if they include actual pictures of new places or people

She hasn’t really taken to social stories so far. But we still try on occasion. We have been verbalizing More frequently to help with the transitions and help explain to her what will be happening.

Have you tried CBD oil ? My nephew on it now it has helped him so so so much he's non verbal like Abby girl it's now like night and day ... Onesy PJ's backwards like Acea does Abby girl's PJ's that stop ... We tried CBD oil and it increased aggression 😕 we can’t get her medical marijuana because she “hasn’t failed on pharmaceutical”
