However, I was blessed that I donated plasma while homeless so I was able to get bus passes to keep a job and keep myself fed until I moved into an expended stay hotel. From a vet deep embedded in the VA system due to my issues, programs exist. A lot of the times its a lack of knowledge of said programs, or untreated mental illness. They have like "group" home type deals where veterans can live but often they are plagued with mental illness and substance abuse. There is also housing payment assistance, emergency housing, job retraining etc. Another issue is vets that have unrelated service connected issues and carry a disability rating under 30%. The VA is not allowed legally to treat these people for conditions unrelated to service unless you meet a certain disability percentage threshold. Veterans don't get "lifetime medical" in the way that the general public thinks

Great video. I was homeless n down on my luck for about 5 years here in Chicago. My problem was being an alcoholic n addict , getting high all the time. It was also hanging around the wrong types of people that were also down n out. I had a terrible tragedy happen that terrified me n I gave treatment another try. God willing this time I was desperate n miserable enough that it worked for me. That was 19 years ago n I just celebrated 17 years Sober. I am living very well now n am so much happier. @@gladyswilliams336 nothing could be more wrong. Alcoholism / drug addiction , are a disease. A addict cannot drink a drink here n there, the person's whole life falls apart n spirals into the abyss. I know many who could get drunk beyond belief n still get up early n make it to work. Not so with me. I'd run off on a binge for weeks, even months sometimes n lose the job n eventually wherever I was staying too. So it could be considered a terrible thing if you'd prefer that term to luck. I do also agree that , in some rare cases, being an alcoholic or addict can be a blessing, as in my case, because after suffering years of homelessness n getting sober, I now am clean going on 18 years soon, I now appreciate the small things in life, having a shower, eating what I want to eat etc.

I remained homeless for close to 5 years until receiving Section 8 housing. I am still waiting for a court date to try to collect(this is my 4th attempt) my SSD/SSI that Ive paid into for the last 27 years that Ive worked! Please know: THIS can happen to anyone, any where, any time! I appreciate Michael & other kindhearted, compassionate people like him! And TBH, the years I spent homeless were some of the happiest & best times in my life; times when I learned who I am, & was the closest to God as I have EVER BEEN!!! And I met so MANY beautiful souls along the way who helped me! My gratitude is extremely heartfelt💜! I look at it like this; I had to break down before I could break through...I lost it ALL, but gained Who I Am🙇♀️!!! TRULY PRICELESS💎

I have had such a good life even though my childhood was not ideal. My association with the homeless began in a church ministry and extended to the local McDonalds that was across from the railroad tracks and a camp. I bought meals for them and hung out with them at a home for the homeless. I have met some good people among the homeless.....never met a bad one. Some have had some bad breaks in life and took to the streets. We must never mistreat a person in need on the streets. God has a special place in His heart for those who are poor and down and is pleased to see somebody with a good heart to help them out. Adding to my comment. I don't try to determine if someone is "legit". I follow my heart! God will do the rest, Amen!

Wow….. you are a GOOD man. We are ALL capable of helping the homeless. I do my best, we should all help. All it takes is empathy and a little bit of time. Every single person on the street has a story.. a story of heart ache, bad timing, maybe bad choices BUT maybe not! Don’t judge, just help. Subscriber for life, well done sir, we’ll done.
