Help Me DIY One question I did have is: I always worry about unscrewing a screw like the ones at the bottom of the charge pipes and dropping it in the engine bay. Is there a tool or method you recommend to reduce the risk of doing this in your experience?
@HelpMeDIY
@HelpMeDIY 3 жыл бұрын
m3drivr Funny you should ask… I did that when reassembling this and it cost me an extra 30 minutes of work. I usually try to stick a rag or something underneath the bolt so if I drop it it will land on the rag instead of falling all the way through. I didn’t take my advice this time though. Also if you check out one of my tool of the week videos, there is a borescope I bought that can help find it if this happens. They are really cheap these days and I highly recommend them

If you want to save some time, you do NOT need to completely remove the charge pipes, you only need to release the clamps from the intercooler and then slide the 2nd plastic cover under the pipes after unclipping the wires attached to it.

Thanks for the info....I did this job 3 months ago...at 35K miles...the dealer refused to do it under warranty at 31K mi. (Jerk)....so moving on the plugs i took out were at .041 and the idle was rough. I put in Bosch ZR5TPP330 I set the gap to .021 (no tune) the Bosch box says DO NOT OVERTORQUE 23NM 17ft.lbs. The only other issue was that I did not tighten the charge pipe clamps sufficiently so one developed a leak on the first run.

Hello, very usefull video, thank you for sharing. I have one of the latest M4 F82 (430PS) and in the current milleage of 40.000 I have to change spark plugs. At the same time with the sparks plugs exchange I am planning upgrade the engine power from M4 to M4CS (+30PS) all in the origin BMW SW, no external tuning. Now I dont know if I should use the origin BMW spark plugs, or some better like a BOSCH or NGK. I also dont know how big the spark plug gap should be set in a case the car is only sligtly tuned with origin BMW SW. Please can you help?

FYI, do not hold the end of the torque wrench while tightening at low (~>20nm) torques. It will affect the torque. Fretting over 2-3nm on a plug is not an issue. Instead of vacuuming out the plug holes, use compressed air before removal. I'm sure you have seen the gapping tool by now. Good writeup. Hello from CLT!
