In the previous arcs, we've seen many times how scary Unohana is. In the Soul Society arc, even Aizen avoided a confrontation with Unohana during his betrayal. Also in the Hueco Mundo arc, the leader of the Exequias team, who came to clear the Privaron Espadas, recognised Unohana the moment he saw her and told his team to retreat. Also, Yachiru, the 11th squad lieutenant, told Zaraki that she was nameless. Zaraki gave her the name Yachiru out of respect for Unohana. Probably the reason why Yamamoto didn't drive her to the battlefield is that 4th squad is a team on healing stuff and if Unohana left the 4th squad building, all the remaining squad members would be vulnerable to the Sternritters. The destruction of 4th squad would mean the loss of all healing power and all the remaining wounded would be left to die. In short, Yamamoto had to leave Unohana behind as the last bastion of Soul Society.

[Tibits & Clarifications] - It was removed from the last episode but you learn that the springs that Urahara created are based on Tenjiros (Like the Spring we saw when Yoruichi revealed her human form that Ichigo was recovering in) -Unohana being a Kenpachi was heavily foreshadowed throughout the entire series, it's the reason why squad 11 members were so afraid of her, It's why Aizen knew she'd catch on to his lie, and why even Captains like Shunsui and Ukitake feared her. (Another cool bit is that Aizen tried to seal Unohana and Kenpachi in Hueco Mundo to avoid them until he was immortal) -This is our 1st time hearing Unohana's real first name, which is Yachiru, the same name Kenpachi gave to his Lieutenant when he found her. If you go back to that scene, Kenpachi said it's the name of someone he admired. Unohana's fake name was even a Hint "Retsu" means Violent in Japanese -Buff Kon was another comedy bit removed from the last episode, so it may feel a bit random here. -Given Kirio's words before they left her Palace, we now know that every Squad 0 member has done something that hugely affects how the Soul Society operates. Kirio made Gikon or Artificial Souls, and she says Ouetsu Made Zanpaktou, it's cool to wonder what the others invented. -It's cool to see the politics with Shunsui, it shows a stark difference between him and Yama. Yama simply upheld the law, as long as peace was the goal he honestly didn't care much...but Shunsui is a bit different, more experimental, and he's willing to do things that Yama would never do.

And even if it was Unohana alone she still could’ve been killed; look at what happened to Byakuya, Kenpachi and Yamamoto himself! If the Gotei 13’s best healer isn’t alive after everything that happened than that put’s the Soul Society in an even worst position! :l

Unohana probably was there to protect the rest of her squad. If she left they would have been like sitting ducks but with her there there's some kind of defence if the enemy goes there.

It makes total sense Kyoraku made the new head captain. he's not as strong as yamamoto, but he's got centuries of experience, a good negotiator, a senior captain, and the most reliable of all the remaining captains.

Plus, he was one of Yama's proteges alongside Ukitake; but since Ukitake struggles with his illness and might be too nice of a person to make harder decisions, the choice was clearly Shunsui.

And just so you know he may not look like it, but Oetsu Nimaiya is one of the oldest characters in Bleach, so when they say he created the Zanpakuto they mean WAAAY back in the day, Yamamoto and co. werent even in molecules back then lmao even tho you’d think Yamamoto would be older because of his looks.

So, the reveal was foreshadowed. Remember Zaraki named Yachiru after the ONLY perscon he respected. And Shunsui called her Yachiru Unohana.Also go back and watch during the Arancar arc when she and Ichgo were going back to the fake karakura town. She said Ichgo had more spirital pressure than any other captain. Ichgo then told her that well he has about a quarter of his SP. And Unohana almost licked her lips.

Correct me if I'm wrong but from what I've gathered before Zanpokuto the soul reapers had the powers in them. It hints at this with Yamamoto and Byakuya. Yamamoto used fire attacks without his sword and Byakuya's blood was turning into blades during his fight with Ichigo.

Central 46 not wanting Kenpachi Zaraki to learn his Zanpakutos name and awakening both Shikai and Bankai is because they’re afraid he might decide to rebel against Soul Society. Genryusai Yamamoto, tried teaching him swordsmanship in order for Zaraki to fight sophisticated battles but failed, they quit after being in the dojo for one day. Shunsui surmises that Zaraki with his current power isn’t going to help their chances of winning the war. Hence why he organized the duel and informed Unohana prior to speaking with central 46

From what I've seen from this first interaction between Shunsui and Central 46 is that he's not gonna just sit back and accept every ruling Central 46 makes like Yama seemed to do, he seems far more likely to push back and Central 46 isn't used to it.

Kyoraku's Bankai is one of the two special conditions bankai. He was even like Yamamoto's son. Even Yamamoto said he had a sharp intuition despite his wild nature. If you look at the old Gotei 13, she was the one that split a guy in half after coming from the top rope out of nowhere.

The Drop - as in, my jaw dropped on the floor when Unohana and Zaraki clashed!!! 🤣 Also...the foreshadowing. Everyone was ALWAYS inexplicably scared of her throughout the previous arcs. Tenjiro taught her healing techniques so...what was she doing before? Kenpachi is the title of the "strongest" shinigami and default captain of squad 11 and is only ever acquired by killing the previous Kenpachi. There had to be a first so how did Zaraki become the eleventh? Easy, all of the other Kenpachi; including Zaraki were false. Her real name was always Yachiru Unohana but when she gave up her bloodthirsty ways, which are explained a little bit next episode, she changed it to Retsu Unohana. Who else do we know that is named "Yachiru" and why? Zaraki had no name so he gave himself one after the name of the worst section of Rukongai. He found a little toddler all alone and named her Kusajishi after the second worst section but her first name was given to her as it was the name of the only person he ever admired.

idk what they were doing with hikifune's boobs in that scene they were like super emphasised jiggling and stuff. It wasn't like that in the manga but In the previous episode they removed a shot of rukia's bare butt so the anime need to make its mind up which lane they going down some people at the studio aren't communicating. Unohana is super cool and her voice actor did a great job cause im assuming they didn't tell her she was going to be going all deep and like a killer when she got the job 20 years ago. Fun fact: Retsu the name she gave herself literally just means fierce or violent. Great secret identity there. I think yama told her to stay behind cause her job was to heal everyone at this point she isn't a killer anymore and if she went out and got injured theres nobody as good to organize the wounded. and out of respect for his last order even if she wanted to go out she stayed in. I wasn't totally happy with the fight but i can talk about that after it ends.

It's not in Zaraki's nature to turn on the soul society like that. He doesn't care about that kind of stuff. He just wants to fight strong people. Plus, Bleach has always hinted that Zaraki enjoys being part of the Gotei 13 and his likes he squad. He isn't alone anymore, and he gets to share his love of fighting with like-minded people.

Those discussions we used to have when people used to ask who is your waifu on bleach. In my response would be it's a tie between yourichi and unohana. And people would reply "why unohana.... I mean she's okay" Those of us that knew....knew. 😌 And also yes I'm completely bias but Shunsui should have definitely been head Commander. Not because he's my favorite Captain but just all things being equal I couldn't imagine it being anybody else.
