Created in 1459 in France by Winear Winesford. The technique focuses on defending and attacking with your primary hand using your sword while inflicting emotional damage with the wine glass in your off hand. It was used to great effect in battles such as The Battle of the Vineyard (1573), The Siege of Winesburg, (1684), and in the legendary Duel of the Brewery (1739). It has since lost popularity and is rarely seen on the battlefield. It has sadly been nearly completely replaced by the off-shoot dual-handed beer mug dagger technique, which originated in Britain . It is nice to see that it is not completely forgotten yet.

By-the-books swordsmen are no joke! I always thought they'd be too stilted or rigid in their fighting doctrine, but after getting a rivalry with one, I've learned they're quick, sneaky devils! Always learn from your manuscripts friend, they have secrets that have been unused for hundreds of years, and they're usually willing to teach!

It helps when the manuals often emphasize *dealing with the situation* rather than rigid forms and specific combinations of motions. Unlike some OTHER forms of martial arts (which I studied much more of before getting tired of ego-dripping teachers)
@uexkeru Жыл бұрын
@@Chazz_K I'd like to see more study done on what keeps some traditional martial arts (especially HEMA) viable vs others that have become about how they look rather than performance in an actual fight. I believe with HEMA the sauce is its undeniable connection to fights/competition. But another explanation could be that weapon and grappling arts were just more developed in the past as striking arts were bottlenecked by lack of protective training equipment. But regardless of cause, I too felt like my time in kung fu/karate based arts was mostly a waste of time

To be fair, muscle memory is a pain to hammer home, in a fight your built instincts is the only thing that will be fast enough to react. If you don't have that it is more luck than skill that decides if you win, it ain't chess where you got a couple of seconds to decide your next move. It helps... it certainly helps to know every move in the books, but if you must think and plan every move you'll be taken by surprise where a good ingrained reflex would've saved the day.
