Parasympathetic stimulation results into. 1. Acinar cells increase secretion of saliva 2. Duct cells increase HCO3- secretion 3. Cotransmission result in increased blood flow to the salivary gland 4.Contraction of myoepithelium to increase the rate of expulsion of saliva Sympathetic stimulation results into 1.Decreased production of saliva by acinar cell 2. Increased protein secretion 3. Decreased blood flow to the glands But sympathetic system is far less important than the parasympathetic innervation in terms of regulating production of saliva.
