Both gettin’ it done! Hard not to go up in tire smoke, the GOAT driver got out of the hole pretty well in each heat.

Love it.. .my Dad had a 65 GTO, all my Dad do was headers, valves, cams,.. something else. I remember it had a Hurst Shifter and stock Tach in the car as well. Bad ass, I loved that car.

Pontiac did their homework. On paper the Chevelle should've walked him. Great race, both cars are beautiful.

Bought a brand new '65 "goat" in the summer of '65. Looked exactly like that one except mine had a vinyl roof.

That 65 GTO is bad ass!

The GTO is only heavier by a few pounds. But the Chevelle has a alum intake, a 520 lift solid cam vs the Pontiac's hyd 410 lift. And not even talk about the Chevelle BIG square port heads vs the GTO small valve heads. Good run by both cars though.

Good comeback in last race after getting blown away the first 2 by my favorite, a GTO🏆

chevelle driver needs to learn the ways of coming out of the hole. Just a case of the goat driver knowing how to do it!

Very good indeed my friend. In fact I was routing for the GTO. But I was going by the listed weight in the stats. 3,752lbs - Chevelle and 3,734lbs - GTO.

I had a 65 GTO in 65. Tri power, 4 speed, close ratio trans, 39 gear posi traction, it was a coupe (lighter weight) & was blueprinted @ Royal Pontiac. NEVER LOST a drag race. But got put in jail, I had 36 points (maximum allowable was 12 points) lost my license 3 times, I was a BAD LITTLE BOY. 😩 I didn’t get a ticket for 25 years after that jail time. 😀

Take a set of good tires that hooked Back to the 60s and you could own the streets

My father's drag car was a 4-speed '67 Chevelle w/ the 327 SBC. He did some port work to a set of standard heads (non-double hump), along w/ a static balance of rods/pistons and his much-touted Isky solid lifter cam and always seemed to win his vehicle class. I believe his edge over the other drivers was his experience as a Golden Gloves boxer in college and, consequently, had lightening fast reactions off the light. He let me "help" him rebuild that 327, along w/ the manual M21 transmission and the 12-bolt differential and the Holley carburetor, for my 8th birthday down in the basement for the next race season. He got an extra set of hands and I got a wealth of knowledge. I never had to send a car to a mechanic for any repair work, until I bought an OBD2 vehicle (and age took my knees out). smh

This video reminds me that I once had a magazine that featured a pretty full-length report of the FIRST PSMC drags back in '97 or '98. I believe that weekend's winner was also a '67 Poncho (possibly also owned and driven by Bruce Hayes?) running mid to low 13's, which seemed really really fast. That weekend they started off making everyone run on spec bias ply's, but it was such a smoke show, it was decided everyone would run on radial drag/highway tires (same make/model, but sized to fit each car). Now we've got 'vettes and Hemi's running in the 11's. Times sure have changed.

At 0:26 the GTO tech sheet says 1967. The car is a 1965. Any ideas out there?

My first new car was a 1965 tri-power, 4 speed GTO in blue mist slate. After about a year the first car to beat me on the street was a 1966 Chevelle SS. Beat me soundly too.

Is it me or did I see the Pontiac back off the gas, so the Chevy could win?

You are CORRECT!
@badgerbait83515 жыл бұрын
Not sure where that came from?! However, to keep things in perspective just watch the times/mph on the goat. Pretty consistent.

Looks like the left lane was a bit slippery in the second and third run compared to the first run. Chevelle was all over the place. Still, the GTO driver seemed to know his car and could peddle it better.
@Boredout45412 жыл бұрын
The Chevelle is actually heavier.

A better driver in the Chevelle would've mop the floor with that goat.To me it looked like the Chevelle driver stayed to long in first gear and had slower reaction times. I had a 1969 L-78, SS 396 Chevelle with posi-trac, 4.10 gears, and a Turbo 400 Hyrda-matic. Never was beaten by any Goat of any year including tri-power, ram-air or with just a single 4 barrel. Sorry if you don't believe me but the SS396 I had really hauled ass! (Corvettes were easy to beat and I just laughed at 4-4-2's and Mustangs, never raced a Buick GS though)
@jerrycraig65223 жыл бұрын
The darn thing just refused to hook up, maybe his tires were old and hard or something, I don't know but he spun all the way down the left lane!!!
