This is actually a pretty good matchup, on paper......Goat had the steeper gearing and more horsepower, but the Plymouth was much lighter..even in convertible form. I agree the GTO should have done better...I have owned a '68 and a '69 Goat, but those 340s were definitely no joke..much respect.

I really love the 426 hemi in the old days... as I do believe they were built much better than today's version! I used to know a guy named Gary Hughes who owned a machine shop in his garage and I took all my engine parts to him for surfacing the heads and other machine shop works. Awesome guy! It seemed as though you could always get more horse power out of the hemispherical head configurations and it was such a great idea for even combustion! Today, I own a 2019 RAM 4x4 that puts out near 400 horse power with a 5.7 hemi and love it!... but I have always heard of lifter problems and other problems with the Gen3 and Gen 4 versions.

From memory (back in the day) I agree totally and if I remember correctly, the 69 Chevelle Malibu SS 396 had the same A-body platform, weighed basically the same but much much faster !.....besides, the Malibu was a better looking machine !

My question is did they ever make a 340 hemi or consider it? I would rather have a 340 in my car than a big heavy engine so I don't have to worry about the handling as I love transam racing or the Australian equivelent tcm.I am not an expert on cars but I do like cars that can make fast laps on a twisty circuit ie Bathhurst. What do you think?

The 340 is an "LA" (light A) class engine made from 68-73. It had high flow heads, porting etc. I don't believe they looked at extending the 340 or investing in it when the gas crunch hit. They released the 360 in 71 and it was a lower cost option to make and it was kept in production until 2002. I think the 340 fell by the wayside due to the expense and oil crisis. It was too expensive for chrysler to maintain

The 340 could have used 3.55 or 3.91 gears and really pulled hard. 3.23 are a little bit of a highway gear. A 340 in a light weight a-body were truly a budget muscle car, at least in the Mopar range. That GTO is an amazing car, despite weight disadvantage, seems like it should have done better.

Hey where do you get specific numbers on cars? I already got my PHS docs but even looking online I can't get specific numbers on my vehicle. I have a 1966 GTO. sports coupe, California car, tri power 4 speed. I know the sports coupes are rare. But can't get any real numbers with this combination. Any information would be appreciated.

This does not surprise me at all. 340 is the most underrated mopar muscle car motor. That an a light weight A body, damn tough to beat. He would have been a second or more quicker with some deeper gears.

Beautiful cars. Always love the GTO'S but I was suspicious this would be the outcome. Mopar 340 = surprises.

Bring back the commentary. I’m sure more people enjoyed it than disliked it. Complainers are always the most vocal but you can’t give in to the whiners. Also good on a 340 punching up as usual

In round 2, the GTO had the lower E.T., but the Barracuda crossed the line first. I don't understand. Did they spot the Barracuda? There's probably a good explanntion but I'm too dense to see it.

The 340 Barracuda did exactly what Chrysler Corporation engineered it to do...leave a GTO driver scratching his head wondering what he did wrong. I've owned both of these cars at one time and will tell you no matter who is driving GTO, the Barracuda is probably gonna be a car length ahead at 1/8th every time. Anyone that has owned a 340 car will not be surprised at these results. They are simply bad ass lil motors.

I wonder if someone "reported" him regarding his humor and KZbin threatened to defund/deplatform him. He might be lying low. What I don't understand is why he doesn't just add some comments in the video description explaining if he is in trouble, if he is experimenting with a new format, etc

Comments like this 👆are so stupid. You think youtube threatened to “defund” (?) him.....for toilet humor? Are you serious? That’s definitely not how it works. And why does CZ need to comment on anything? Just because you say so? Get a life. All his original videos were like this format, and no one demanded an explanation when he started adding commentary.
