Three years ago I was diagnosed with advanced Crohns, completely changed my diet, on treatment, and thankfully doing well. At the time of that diagnosis, I was anemic and had no iron, the chronic bleeding from Crohns was actually benefiting me from my one week confirmed diagnosis of complex HFE. I have two of the most common defects so higher risk. I too had several medical providers miss the diagnosis and was recommended by several to start Iron tablets which I did not do because it did not make sense to me so I kept digging for the answer. My liver is fine at this time, Ferritin 24, saturation 54%. I now have to tell my kids. Thanks for your story and to everyone else sharing, it helps to know I am not alone and that there is a path. Thank you.

Thank you for the video! Last year I started seeing a new primary care physician. I had no symptoms, but she was the first doctor to add iron levels check for my annual physical. Results came back that my iron was high, not astronomical, but over the range. She had me tested for Hemochromatosis gene and sure enough I have one of the genes (H63D (c.187C>G). I had my first phlebotomy last week and am suppose to go back every three months. I have been spending a lot of time searching the internet but not much out there. I eat pretty healthfully so this just didn't seem fair. So thank you so much for sharing your story it really helps.

I have not been tested but I have a whole lot of that ancestry and although, not officially diagnosed, I retain iron and give blood regularly. My symptoms started with just yellow eyes in my early twenties. After having my kids I noticed severe debilitating fatigue, severe brain fog to the point I was convinced I thought I had early onset dementia. I got bloodwork done and my bilirubin was 2.5 so a little high but they didn’t do any further testing and just told me to get rest and that it’s probably just from being a parent. I started developing joint pain in my knees and hands and ankles, and weird pain in my upper right abdomen. And it was getting to the point where I would have to put my kids in a safe area and lay down on the floor because the level of exhaustion was just overwhelming at this point. I went in to the er for another infection I was dealing with and had a complete breakdown to a nurse basically begging her to help me figure out how to get answers because I wasn’t being taken seriously. I’m a 28 year old healthy female but I felt like I was living in the body of a 60 year old. She told me to keep being persistent, even change doctors until you get someone to listen. So I did. I just got my blood work back and my bilirubin had increased more and my dr thought maybe I was anemic based on the symptoms I was describing so she ran a panel for my iron and my saturation was 51%. I start looking around online and I keep seeing this diagnosis called hemochromatosis. And I had done 23 and me a while back so I thought I’d check so see if I have the variant. Boom, right there, H63D variant. I finally have an answer to all of my problems. I have a follow up appointment with my pcp for further testing/diagnosis.My mom has been suffering with fatigue, brain fog, and high bilirubin levels since I could remember and she’s been through so many doctors who have just said oh you know mom life is likely your cause for your symptoms. She’s getting tested now to see if she is the carrier of the variant. But it was so relieving to find out that this wasn’t just anxiety or becoming a parent, that these debilitating symptoms weren’t all in my head.

Hey, you have no idea how much your comment relieved me! I think we have kinda the same story. High bilirubin levels, told to not worry about it. I had muscle aches and joint problems for 2 years. And recently i started having a foggy brain, and twitching so i decided to get my blood work done again. Luckily i included an iron test and i have a high level of iron in my body. Just a quick question, can you tell me all the symptoms you had and how are they now? Would really appreciate it :)

Just caught your video on my YT feed, glad I did. I just got a blood test that included them testing my ferritin and TSH and they are quite high (ferritin at 449 and TSH at 14). My GP immediately wants to put me on a drug to control the TSH and said that he is not concerned with the ferritin level. No telling how long this has been going on. I suspect some inflammation is going on in my body. Also have an abdominal ultrasound scheduled for a month from now. Fingers crossed that we can figure this out.

I think you should fix your iron overload before you start the thyroid medication. It could be the iron being stored in your thyroid and causing the high TSH. If you start the meditation it can be difficult to get off of it later. Just a heads up😊

Same story here in Sweden. I hade severe panic attacks for 14 years daily among a lot of problems mentioned all over. Doctors called me delusional and more, even when I stood in fron of them in middle of summer with double layers of winter clothes on me when it was 32 degrees celcius outside and couldn't maintain my body temperature.. Now I even have probably developed primary aldosteronism and might need to remove one of my adrenal glands to solve very high blood pressure due to loads of aldensterone pumping out.

I’ve been ill for many years. A doctor that I saw for the first time sent me for a ton of blood tests. He called me back with results. I never heard of such a thing. Too much iron. I just had the genetic test and I am waiting for the results. I was also surprised to see another name for Hemochromatosis, The Celtic Curse. Well, my paternal GM is from Ireland, Paternal GF from Scotland, maternal GM from Britain and maternal GF from Ireland. Ancestry and symptoms both show a risk. Very interesting.

I have hemochromatosis, my father have it, and I don't have any relation with Ireland/Britain since all of my family is from Croatia. Maybe I have some old Celtic relative? 🤔 My ferritin is some below 400, but this was tested some year ago, need to repeat test soon. And I hesitate regarding blood donation, feel very unplesent when needle is longer than minute in me, even during simple blood test I feel little bit dizzy. I afraid that I will pass out during blood donation 😬. For now I'm on turmeric but not sure does it help. Thinking also about some other chelating option (lactoferrin, IP6...).

My iron saturation was 76% despite only having a 152 ferritin. Turns out I have one snippet in my DNA H63D that was causing mild hemochromatosis. I've always felt like crap after I hit about 40 years of age and I am 58 now so it has not been fun through the years. No doc found it until I end up in the hospital with a racing heart rate that would not go below 125bpm. Turns out the iron overload messed with my thyroid function causing me to be hyperthyroid. I gave some blood and took anti-thyroid drug and a beta blocker to lower my HR and so far so good. It's only been 4 days since I was in the hospital and I didn't take any anti-thyroid meds today and I haven't needed to take the beta blocker either for the past 2 days. I'm thinking that giving some blood allowed my thyroid to reset itself. At least I hope that is the case so I guess I will see how it goes over the next few days. I get the iron results back tomorrow so I am curious to see how much it dropped after getting rid of some blood. I do feel better so we shall see if I continue to improve. Iron saturation is definitely nothing to play around with. It was very scary for me. Great video!

I'm a compound heterozygote for hæmochromatosis and another hepcidin mutation, and have very mild iron overload. Doctor wouldn't test my iron levels, even with my genetic results, until he saw my liver enzymes. I bet I can nip this purely through diet (and phlebotomy isn't indicated in my case), but it's hard to not hit the minimum iron DVs, and all the videos KZbin gives me are about anemia, which is like the opposite of my situation, lol.

Right. I tend to be able to adjust things SOME with diet, but I do better by simply adjusting how often I donate blood. And most states now allow your doctor to write a prescription for therapeutic blood donation, which allows you to go more often than most people are allowed to donate blood. I probably need to make another video about this kind of stuff.

So after few years of having these strange symptoms (mainly chronic fatigue, joint pain, frequent kind of infections) at last one doctor noticed I my iron is too high and something should be done with this. I am waiting for next tests to find out the root cause, but already feel better that there is some explanation. In the meantime I was told to take psychiatric drugs (I refused) or that I am simply lazy (I knew this was not the case). I am forty years old woman, always having regular periods, haven't been eating much meat at all, not supplementing iron too. Now throwing away old pots this can be the hidden danger ... 🤔

My ferritin levels are 610, but my blood iron only around 130. I was wondering if normal blood iron levels are different for each person. I'm been consuming a lot of red meat in part of my elimination diet, basically following carnivore style. It didn't really fix anything. I think it may have causes more even damage. Now I'm following a low iron, low red meat diet, replacing them with fish and chicken. I'm also thinking doing some meatless days. I've been also doing some intermittent fasting and exercise during that fasting time to lower my ferritin levels. Need to measure again in order to see whether high ferritin levels are caused my this carnivore diet.

Any inflammation or fungus, yeast in the body can cause high ferritin levels. Only way to know if you have hemochromatosis is to have the genocide test, you must have two genes to have it. Both parts would have had to have one gene at least for you to get it. No carnivore diet by it self will not raise ferritin level. Dr Ken Berry had a good video on subject. My brother was recently diagnosed with hereditary hemochromatosis at levels over 600. I asked my doc to run a complete iron panel and she reluctantly ran this: iron binding capacity, UIBC, iron, iron saturation, Ferritin. I'm 54 (no uterus) and my FERRITIN was high, range of 15-150 per LABCORP and mine was 219. Also when it comes to lab ranges Quest shows for someone my age that normal is 16-232 so if that's the case and I'm at 219 am I really in range afterall or do I have to go by LABCORP ranges since that’s who did the test? My Doc said nothing to be worried about and that's that. Do I need to push for more tests? What is the exact genetic test that I need to ask for? She doesn't seem to know about it at all and I don't know if I should see a specialist or not? I also have Hashimoto's, active EBV, MTHFR c677T and feel like I struggle every single day with inflammation, fatigue, brain issues, weight gain, joint pain, etc. My a1c rose to 5.9 but I brought it down to 5.7 over a period of a year. I made her prescribe me a continuous glucose monitor which is super helpful but still trying to figure out why my glucose seems to run high (130) during the day and sometimes super low (55) at night. Especially when I don't eat carbs or processed foods & I try to intermittent fast most days. But I do like my wine with dinner which I'm trying to stop. I know that's a lot but I'm a bit of a mess. I wish I could find one doc or one naturopath that was really good at figuring this out without throwing meds and or 20 supplements at me. When I try to be my own advocate I get that glare. take care!

Hello. I'm glad I came across this. I was wondering if there is any way you can ascertain whether the Covid-19 vaccinations could trigger hemochromatosis? The reason I am asking is because I was recently reacquainted with an old friend who has always been healthy until he took the jab on December 2020. One month later he woke up and stared in the mirror to find that his skin color was becoming gray in appearance and was immediately hospitalized. Since then he's developed hemochromatosis and thirty percent heart damage. He's been on medication ever since and will continue to do so for the rest of his Life. If you or anyone hear can provide any information--pro or con--it would be greatly appreciated...

Thing is I went down to 89lbs and have fought to get up to 100 now, so I'm not running to donate blood and the Doc and I agreed on that. Have seen other things like Soy, dairy.... Figure things that block it from absorbing can't hurt either. You saved me with the DIM getting my hormones to normal I never would have even suspected :)@@KickItNaturally

Hi @Hasai, I hated drawing blood too, but I decided I hated dying of a heart attack more. :) Once you do it a few times, it becomes a lot easier. There are some that believe the steps I talked about in this video could help reduce how much iron is coming in, but the only effective way to get the high iron to come down is through pulling blood out.

What about serum iron being too high but ferritin low? How much time takes the body to store it as ferritin?
@Total_Body_Fitness_USA
@Total_Body_Fitness_USA Жыл бұрын
Do a TIBC and if iron saturation is over 50% then you are high regardless of what the ferritin is. That is where I messed up by listening to doctors who said don't worry about iron unless ferritin is high. My ferritin was 152 and my iron saturation was 76% which is crazy high. After 10 years of feeling like crap I end up in the hospital last Thursday and come to find out I was at the 76% iron overload and it screwed with my thyroid to the point my heart rate would not go below 125bpm. It was scary as hell and I got rid of some blood and almost immediately felt better. Hope this helps you!

@@karofarah If your saturation is high regardless of what your ferritin it, you need to get rid of some blood immediately. I've trained in functional medicine for nearly 30 years and I was taught to always look at ferritin. If ferritin is normal then everything is fine. That is NOT true and I found out the hard way. I've had ferritin in the low 20s but yet my saturation was in the mid 60s and I ignored it thinking all is well. Check your saturation and then do a repeat test a week later. If your saturation is consistently high, then usually one donation 500ml will take care of it. In my case I was at 76% and one donation plus 10 more tubes of blood from testing brought me to 43% as of 2 days ago. All these years I have been searching for a problem because I knew something was wrong with my body, but I totally ignored getting a TIBC until a little over a week ago and it literally almost cost me my life because I went into thyroid storm. Now I am going to start lecturing to other physicians to never just look at ferritin to gauge iron levels. Okay, so what caused this in my case? I have one SNP called H63D which MAY cause mild hemochromatosis and in my case it did, but it took years as I am 58 years of age and I have only donated blood one time up to that point. Not only do I absorb too much iron from foods, but my body has a hard time storing it as ferritin. Most likely you have the same issue. Best of luck.
@Total_Body_Fitness_USA

@@viracocha2021 Your body is having a hard time storing iron as ferritin most likely due to a gene SNP called H63D or C282Y. Check your DNA to be sure, but if your ferritin is normal or even low, and your saturation is over 50% on two tests taken one week apart, then you have iron overload. Best of luck!
