Just recently learned about the huge environmental impacts from processing coconut coir, and now I am looking at alternatives. I found Terrafibre online and their use of hemp and an definitely intrigued. I found your video very interesting, and will be following your channel to see what happens as you continue.

You gave great comparisons. A more comprehensive summary at the end would be good. Also a description of what's in the nutrient solution would be good. Again, highly instructive. Congratulations on a great video.

Having trouble with my hemp mats.... seedlings are dying back towards the center. Could be a fungi problem? Sometimes i can see moldy patches.

Thanks for the video - question: is using potted soil (with some compost) the same as using coco coir + nutrients?
@CoreysCave Жыл бұрын
No. Soil is dirt… with organic matter. Coco coir is purely coconut husks.

Thanks for your helpful videos. Have you ever tried a mix of coco coir and soil (such as foxfarm) instead of just coco coir and nutrient solution, to see the difference in yields?
@CoreysCave2 жыл бұрын
I have, but have not run side by side comparisons. The mix does perform better though then straight coco without nutrients.

Maybe you should try the hemp fibers in the shallow trays like you have the coco.
@CoreysCave3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't expect it to make a difference but I do think using a tray with holes will help.

hmm what about a blend Hemp fiber mats 45%, coco coir 35% and nutrients 20%

On 7:16 where you say that you need nutrients for microgreens you might be missing an element at play. My observation is that you still have growth on the one with none. The other which does, your not showing how much you use nevertheless, you see that it is not necessary. Its just that the ones that do, look to be utilizing the nutrients which shows in the comparison. Now, if you were to go to market, and not have any nutrients in any of your microgreens, an untrained eye would probably not know, therefore ultimately it is not necessary, unless it started to hurt your sales somehow.
@samhasbani94902 жыл бұрын
You don't need nutrients if you're using soil, soil has enough nutrients for the life cycle of a microgreen. With hydroponics it makes sense to use some nutrients.
@CoreysCave2 жыл бұрын
That is correct

Hi! The link to the nutrients you recommend is no longer valid. Can you tell me what you use?

I dont understand ur point on no nutrients. Im growing everything with no nutrients,its about a third less than with,but the taste is so much better with no nutrient,and its high quality,not low....
@CoreysCave3 жыл бұрын
You mention one huge point, and that is production. Using 3 times the seed and space for the same amount of production isn't something I would choose to do. Keep in mind I only mention using nutrients when using a hydroponic grow medium (No nutrients, like coco coir, hemp, biostrate, screens etc..). For soil there is no need to add nutrients (unless a long grow like red veined sorrel) as there is plenty naturally there unless designed to not have any. The reason to use nutrients when growing hydroponically is to closely match that of soil, though you can tend to get more production with hydroponics. Water only is really for sprouts imo but if you are happy with your method my opinion shouldn't matter.

@@CoreysCave U sure its 3 times the seed,to me it seems like 1 third more,not 3 times?
