I live in Northern Ireland, but in the early 90s we had the best family holiday at Richardson's and on the beach at Hemsby. The weather was glorious and the people were so warm and welcoming...Possibly the best and most enjoyable summer holiday ever.... I'd love to return to Hemsby some day, as an adult to enjoy it's sights and welcome once again! ❤❤❤

Wow, Hemsby sure has grown since I was last there - about 50 years ago. I remember riding around the dunes on motorbikes and there was a great pub we frequented not far away in Winterton on Sea called the Fishermans Return. Ah, the good old days... :-) If you want to see some epic erosion you should head to Happisburgh - before it's gone.

Love your videos of Yarmouth Tim, you need to run for Mayor, these beautiful old places needs preserving else will end up car parks and costa's in no time. I used to holiday and silver sands park as a kid, i loved it, sadly its no more as disappeared in the 1990s sometime, i think its a haven or something now. I remember Hemsby fondly, so glad its not changed to much If it was still there how it was, i would go. It was like the film Holiday on The Buses :) Keep up the great work pal

I used to go there on Holidays back in the 80’s when I was about 13,the chalet we stayed in was on the Dunes and you would have to walk up and over 3 dunes to get to the beach, there was a White staircase I seem to remember and we would load up the Boat with Beach stuff and carry it to the Beach. I holidayed in Bacton and Happisburgh and quite a few other places but it is extremely sad seeing how much has been lost in coastal erosion in places like Hemsby and Happisburgh 😞. What is worse is how long will it be before Shops are closed down before they are taken by the Sea. We went to Walcott a couple of years back when the Storm hit and there was Sand everywhere,it looked like Snow Drifts but made of Sand !! Something I’d never seen before in my lifetime of 50+ years 😳. Walcott is a Lovely quieter place with No Amusements but a pretty amazing beach and it’s right next to the Road, everything you need within a short walking distance ( Chip shop and the Cafe are absolutely gorgeous Food and reasonably priced too ). I hope they do something for protecting the Coast, especially in Happisburgh with its famous Lighthouse,it’s quite Scary how much of the Land there has been destroyed and being a older age I can remember it there in all its glory. If you are someone who likes to experience Storms while sitting in the safety of your car, you can literally park next to the sea wall and experience the Waves and Foam crashing over your Car ( just make sure you give it a good wash after ). We were there when there was a Storm that was pushing the Foam over the Road and into the Caravan park opposite, just remember to take care and park somewhere safe though and never underestimate the power of the Waves.

Its a government issue. If there were lots of rich people and rich houses based there then funding would be in place for sea defenses. Been mentioned before they decided the cost of defenses to how much the village is worth, its not worth them saving which is an arse thing to say. I understand the sea was far away in the 50s but houses should never have been allowed to be built on dunes. Surely someone should of done a "what if" plan, knowing IF the sea came in, the dunes won't protect the houses. Clearly the council just wanted the money and ignored the risk.
