I had a caravan holiday with my mum and dad in California in 1964 - I remember everywhere you went you heard the Beach Boys 'I get around' playing in cafes and on peoples transistors! The caravans weren't so posh in those days or so numerous. We had fish and chips every day - I don't think you could get anything else. In the evening we went for a walk in the nearby countryside where there was a lot of pea picking going on in the fields. Vans with crates of peas would pass by dropping a lot on the road - they were delicious - very sweet. By the time we got back to the caravan it was quite dark and spookily quiet. My school friends were very impressed that I'd been to California - until they found out it was in Norfolk!

The plant you wanted to know about is Common Gorse (Ulex europaeus), there are several sub-species, it's commonly used to good to stabilize sand dunes; the problem is the plant is it easily becomes rampant and is difficult to control.

The spiky bush with the yellow flowers is called 'gorse'. It is found all over the UK. A similar plant that's also very common and often found in similar places is called 'broom', however broom unlike gorse is not thorny. Both display those yellow flowers throughout most of the year. There is an old saying that goes, "If gorse and broom is not in bloom, kissing is out of season!" Loving the vids.

I like how you call these caravans. In America we would either call these mobile homes or manufactured homes. And the big motor vehicles that you drive that I guess maybe you call campers we call them recreational vehicles or RV’s for short. The only place in California that I believe is worth seeing is northern California, the redwood trees which are the biggest trees and some of the oldest trees in the whole world. Put that on your bucket list it’s absolutely breathtaking.

We stayed at Summerfields in Scratby for our holiday this year. We really liked it, but I wouldn't recommend it for families with young children if you usually like to stay on site at holiday parks as there is very little to actually do on site (it is basically just the chalets/caravans and a building with the swimming pool, bar and restaurant - we never even went in that building!) but if you're a couple or with older kids just looking for a nice quiet place in a decent location it's great. We were out every day, went to Caister, Yarmouth, Norwich, up to Cromer and of course the Broads and only really were at the park when sleeping. It's close enough to use as a base to visit most places (plus it was dirt cheap, I think under £200 for five nights!) but if you're after a holiday park with plenty of activities to keep little'uns entertained, this isn't it We were in a chalet and it was a bit... odd. Tbh I think it's because it was modified to be wheelchair friendly (we didn't realise when booking) and the bathroom was a big wet room but at the same time the place still wasn't brilliantly laid out for a wheelchair user (the sofa sort of blocked everything!). The wet room wasn't brilliantly designed either, there wasn't enough drainage and it sort of just... flooded every time you showered (we had to use a broom we found to try and sweep the water down the drain, and never went in wearing socks!) Plus there were only like two electric plugs in the whole place! The caravans looked a lot nicer. We'd be happy to go there again, but we'll probably have a caravan instead. You can take your pets, too! Oh, at that Chinese you can see at 19:05 - Orchard House - was very nice, and the people running it very friendly! There was also a brilliant chippy in Caister, aptly named "Brilliant Fish and Chips".
