Still haven't seen the 2013 film. I just remembered being excited that Andre 3000 was cast for the role. The 2000 film was just ok for me but I can tell he worked hard.

Yes I think it was brave for Andre to take on the role and I think he took it quite seriously. The Film itself was so so in that it had fact and fiction..

@@dillathehun they changed to much stuff that didn’t need to be changed, and just makes it less realistic. For example him playing a painted Flying V for the sgt peppers gig when he was using white strats. Andre 3000 is great but the directors didn’t set him up for success

I don't mind a bit of 'artistic licence' in a biopic. What I objected to was them showing Jimi duffing up a bird with a phone. The woman in question came out publicly and said quite categorically that it simply never happened. A bit naughty, that...

I turned this movie off when they showed the scene of Jimi jamming with cream and Eric Clapton with a big smile on his face happily played the song with Hendrix. When in real life Clapton walked off the stage in shock about how good Hendrix was.

Dan, I was a kid new to Hollywood when played the majority of Jimi's guitar parts for the 2000 movie and let me tell you, I felt the same way!!! Initially I cut a track that I was extremely proud of, imagining Clapton and Hendrix first meeting and jamming live. What a dream to record! I felt I really copped the tone and attitude of the players and I seriously went to great lengths to do so. My version was a highly competitive head-cutting dual, especially on Jimi's part. I was crushed when I saw that in the movie they'd recut my parts with someone else and made the scene into this happy occasion when we know it really was a primal dual to the death in real life. Sigh. Oh well... I worked really hard, but other than the Star Spangled Banner, I was disappointed by everything else.

You will never see a proper representation about Jimi as long as his wretched sister Janie is still alive . She control every word and note and tells sony corp what to do regarding Jimi's music . Jimi's music is àbout "excapism . " Janie is an overly religious christian and excapism is a tool of the devil an so on . She also wants to sell all his shitty music before selling the good stuff . This is just greedy business practice. There are at least a half dozen good concerts that need to be released .

As far as looking like him, speaking like him, and capturing his mannerisms Andre 3000 got as close as anybody portraying a real historical figure in a movie has in my opinion. The problem was this movie sold itself as a Hendrix biopic telling his story when in reality it's about Jimi Hendrix through the eyes of Kathy Etchingham (at least I believe that's who she's supposed to be). It's more of a voyeuristic portrayal of their relationship and the complexities of Jimi as a lover/partner and not about his career or journey through his short yet impactful life. I was annoyed that in his own film Jimi can't even be the protagonist, it's all about him through the eyes of his various different lovers and more about how he affected them after coming into their lives while his life is merely the sub plot. If they said that's what it was it may have been received better perhaps (barring the terrible guitar miming) as it isn't a bad movie in my opinion, but if you think you're going to watch a movie about one of the most influential pop culture figures to ever live who had a very complicated relationship with his status as a pop culture icon and lead a very complex life that was tragically short this movie won't scratch a single itch you have throughout its entire run time.

The one in 2000 was a colossal failure. He didn't study hendrix. He smiled too much and had too much facial expression, had that stupid monkey grin, disgusting, while the real Hendrix had a dead stare/almost shy look 99% of the time when singing or doing interviews. Andre 3000 nailed it. Pity they didn't get him the right guitars.
