I used Henna when I was younger and always loved it. It gave me an almost natural ginger with my dark blond hair. I stoped using it, when it began to be almost impossible to buy where I live. And yes, it is messy and takes a lot of time but you can keep it moist by wrapping your head in plastic foil.

Same here. It makes your hair a bit fuller because the pigments surround your hair. Everyone thought i was a natural red head.

I love henna..its actually recommended to not use boiling water because it can cause the henna to dye release almost immediately and demise faster and can also cause fade. You can use distilled water or an acid..I sometimes boil tea and let it sit for an hr and get dye release in about 2.5 hrs. I wrap with saran wrap..a shower cap and a beanie and that works fine..I leave in for 2.5 to 3 hrs. I use 100 % pure henna from ancient sunrise or hennasooq so have had balayage done with no problems. The process can be intimidating at first but you get a system and it's fine and the color is fabulous

I like that you didn’t just say don’t use henna! Haha I love henna but there is a lot to it and it definitely isn’t for everyone! Great for people who’s natural red has faded as they get a bit older and want to keep it vibrant but have no desire to ever change their colour. A few tips after years of experience with henna: it builds on itself so be prepared to colour correct through the mids/ends if need be using a bleach bath with very low developer or a very low peroxide product like “sun in”. Henna is very forgiving though and does not cause harsh lines where roots grow in or where needing to colour correct. It also beautifully maintains natural highlights. Only use pure henna products and be aware that some products with additives will cause extra heat and melt your hair if used with bleach!!! If you do a henna wash for your roots by adding a lot of conditioner to your water/henna mix it will be easier to apply (similar consistency to hair dye). Henna colour only lays on top of the hair shaft so if you have any other colour or previously bleached or dyed sections it will not be even. In my experience boiling water does not make a difference nor does keeping the henna hot but it does need to stay moist. Apply henna, wrap your scalp and hair in Saran Wrap and put a T-shirt or towel on your head and keep it on for 3-6 hours. Also the colour develops over a few days when you’re finished. It will be most orange on day 1-2 and then by day 3-4 it will stay the same. All the extra work is worth it for me tho for a beautiful natural red that won’t fade and thicker softer hair.

1. You can bleach pure henna :) you can't bleach indigo or henna mixed with indigo because you will end up with green hair. 2. Henna doesnt mean messy if you apply it in a bathtub and henna has right consistency (thick greek yoghurt). 3. You dont have to constantly put water on henna applied on your hair - you apply henna, cover it with a shower or plastic cap, then you put on a beanie. 4. It's easier to wash henna out of your hair if you dip your hair in a bathtub full of water for a few minutes 5. To lighten up overbuilt henna (too many layers, color too dark or too red etc) you can put olive oil in your hair for 6,7 hours and wash it out with a clarifing shampoo. This can be repeated for a few days before you henna your hair. You can also use a mixture of malic acid and silicone free conditioner - put it on for 20-30 minutes, rinse off. A couple of tips from a henna lover with healthy strong hair after Bleach fail 2,5 years ago ;)

I have used henna for over a year now and I honestly love it. it gives me a beautiful rich auburn red (I'm naturally mousey brown) and it helps to strengthen my fine hair. it does take a lot of effort to do though like you said, it's like a whole day job but it's definitely worth it for me.

I've used henna for years. 100% henna and never ever use hot water. I use room temperature distilled water with a teaspoon of lemon juice and let it cure for 6 hours and then put it on my hair. Never ever fades and is a very rich color. And then I only do my roots when needed❤️

Henna is a common thing used in my culture by many generations, when we are making the Henna paste we would leave it overnight or for few hours so the color develops then we apply it on the hair and leave it for 2 hours then rinse it off. Some would put half a lemon juice to help make the color more vibrant idk if it really works never tried it with lemon juice

I need to add something: henna stratifies on hair and application after application, if done within a short time of each other, can change the starting color and make it very dark. It can change from red to purple, so be very careful. 2 weeks is too short, unless you want to darken your hair.

Before I went completely silver, which I'm so happy with, I used henna for years, to give copper red tones to my then dark hair. Your absolutely right! It's really messy, and heavy and you have to devote the time to prepare, wait, and clean up! But it so worth it if you have the patience, and it will get easier to do in time. The colour is unique to your own hair, and it looks and feels wonderful! This is a great video, I wish it had been available when I was colouring my hair!

Wow was wondering when you will do this. I have been using henna since I was 15 years old just because it would make my hair feel super soft and silky and there would be a nice pigment to my hair though me hair is black. Now I do it to cover my few greys or whites. But still it is as exciting as ever. Love the copper pigment it sets in. I do section my hair well, I usually ask my mom for help and guide her through it. I mix henna with coffee decoction along with neam powder, gooseberry powder, lotus extract, hibiscus extract, curds, hint of lime. It will usually be mixed with one or two of these ingredients usually. Mix and keep it over night in an iron bowl and apply it the next day morning. Alternatively I do various hair masks without henna which will go on my hair every alternate weekend just to strengthen and condition my hair. After the wash, a day later I oil my hair lightly concentrating from roots to tips. Its a lot of work but doing this once a week or once in two weeks really makes me hair feel soft, silky, strong and shiny. Huge para here to read 😂😂😂😂😂

Agreed it's not a colour changer. Its warm toned never cool toned. Yes it's heavy and takes a lot of powder to cover long hair. It nourishes the scalp well, if used over a long time.

It is definitely messy but it's one of those things that you can manage with a routine(ie rinse until the water is clear, don't go to sleep with wet hair once you finish, etc). Highly recommend folks look into some of the hair mask formulations that don't deposit color. One tidbit though, it can temporarily alter the curl pattern on non-straight hair types. One process is fine for me but recently I used a hairmask colorless henna and realizing my mistake and applied the intended package a couple days later. So my wavy curl is a bit looser for a week or two.

Mix with red wine to the consistency of thick yoghurt. Slap it on all over. Wrap in clingfilm and a shower cap. Put a million old towels on your pillow and go to bed. Don't only apply for an hour or two - the colour will be brassy orange. Wait 10+ hours. Gorgeous titian red hair. I apply on my 50% greys, and they are fully, very permanent red. The drawback is a) the process is yuck, b) it smells like dead caterpillars, and c) if you want your hair a different colour, hard cheese. You will need to grow it out. But the benefits so much outweigh this - henna is a colour that absolutely knocks em dead if you leave it on 10+ hours, and it leaves your hair in much better condition than when you started. No damage.

I'e been using henna and indigo for over 7 years to cover my greys. I use the two step process. I have psoriasis of the scalp and cannot use chemical dyes. I love it. I mix is with Alma and Cassia (to aid the release and as a conditioning treatment). I only buy organic henna from a reputable source. Once you have experience with different types of henna (depends on the country of origin) and other plants you can use you can produce from golden blonde to black.

I am a brunette and use pure henna! I love the red glints and warmth it adds. I prefer to have warm tones in my hair and my natural hair is very much not warm toned. My hair feels a lot stronger and my usually oily/ angry scalp is much happier. It took only one treatment for a very obvious red tone, but I left it on for 4 hours prior to rinsing. Now I retreat just the regrowth every couple months or so. The regrowth is not very noticeable.

I’ve been using organic henna powder for more than a decade and mine does not fade. This is part of why I love it so much, unlike hair dyes it stays the same color. It will fade from skin due to cell turnover. My mix is WARM water, a tiny bit of olive oil, and lavender essential oil as a terp. I’ve also done body art with the same stuff (no oil in the mix). I wait for dye release and test on the skin to see if it is ready. Usually I leave it on for two hours with plastic film wrap and a plastic bag, then wrap that in a towel. Henna will never be black, henna will never be clown red either. Typically that means chemicals, PPD found in “black henna” can cause a scarring reaction, and it is ugly. Also, where the henna is grown can change the tone of red your powder produces. The deeper tones I love most are Rajasthani.

Will agree with you on lightening henna, I wouldn't advise. I've been using henna for nearly 4 years, I normally mix it cassia powder and with camomile tea to achieve a copper colour, I only do roots only as multiple full head treatments can cause the henna to become very dark (almost a cherry cola colour) If you're changing your hair colour I wouldn't advise. First time I used it I made a huge mess but practice is key, once applied cling film and a bobble hat is king for keeping heat locked in, my saying is you marry henna not dating henna Lucky for me I'm happy with the colour

You can use cassia for a hair treatment without the color. If you mix it with a bit of henna you get a nice strawberry blonde tint to your hair color and it lasts longer. I find that henna makes my hairs a bit less fine, so it feels a bit like a protein treatment. But you could experiment using cassia since it washed out after a couple months so if you don’t like the effect it isn’t permanent. Again, cassia doesnt provide much if any color - it will just show you t feel of henna and the dying process.

My armenian friend put henna in my hair years back (just a small section as a patch test) and it stayed in my hair foreverrrrr. So I was surprised to hear you say it wouldn't last long. My hair is naturally strawberry blonde, so it was a bit of a darker orange, if I recall correctly. It faded a little, but stayed for months. It eventually wasn't very distinguishable from the rest of my hair, but I don't think it was actually out of my hair until I cut it 😅My hair does the same thing with colors (fades but stays forever). I've always assumed that's natural. I have never bleached my hair, though, so maybe that has something to do with it. It's actually the biggest reason I'm afraid to dye my hair now that it's hip length, as you can imagine 😅

Henna colours are all warm, but if you add in coffee and amla you can tone it down to a very neutral brown. I have dark hair with some grey, and henna leaves the dark untouched and turns the grey into a lighter brown highlight. If I don't do it again for months ,there is no grow out line, just a gradual fading, until l notice that my grey hair is grey again. Henna makes my hair feel thick and strong. I have also dyed over henna without any problems, but l used a dark neutral brown. I use lush caca brun. I really hate what hair dye and bleach does to my hair compared to henna. Henna looks natural and good. Hair dye always looks fake and hard next to my skin.

@@rayofsunshine4164 Henna will not always turn orange, it depends on the product and on the way / number of applications. I think with henna / plant based colour it will still be quite a challenge, as the difference between grey (white) and black is quite big. It can look beautiful when a good henna quality is used , with long and repeated application, it will give rich dark red „highlights“ in the black. (I am colouring my white strands with light brown from khadi-this brings my natural colour with light brown/blonde highlights but it took a very long time to find a suitable colour, as plant based haircolour is often trial and error :) as you have so much options how to use it.

I had a major Henna Fail one time; In trying to achieve a black colour, I put it on top of hair that had been bleached/ highlighted previously. I did it myself, thinking to save some $. My hair went green, orange, purple and grey. It was reeeaally ugly. In the end I went to a salon to get it fixed and that cost a lot of time & money.. They had a hard time trying to strip out that henna. They did the best that they could, but ended up covering everything in a dark coloured dark Auburn dye. It is the darkest I have ever had my hair. It made my blue eyes look incredible though.

Lost of mistakes on this video and very negative approach of henna. There are lots of powders that can dye hairs, for ashy tones you can use amla, for brown or black you can use indigo or katam, henna is high in proteins so not recommended to do it too often, also with good moisturising treatment you have balance, if you want to get the treatment without coloring you can use cassia, you can also get it off if wanted but as you say the color needs to build up so same way to reverse but in my opinion doesn't make any sense getting off or going back to bleach or chemicals, it's like any big change it should be a choice made with reflexion and when you want to take care of yourself you don't want to go back, also if you use boiling water you kill your henna dye power you have to put the right temperature and it vary between the powders. I use powders for at least 3 years and it's my 3rd henna only but from the 1st one i could see big change, depends on the time you let it on your head im ashy dark blond but i do also my cousins hairs with are black and greys i can tell you that you see the beautiful reflects of redish and purple, in fact henna gain your hairs it doesn't go inside the hair like chemical dyes so you can easely see differences in color and brightness in dark hairs if you leave it an appropriate amount of time, the longer you leave it on your hairs the more intensity you get, you cannot go under tone with henna but with other natural mixtures applied regulary you can yeah. 😊

He's very very wrong about slightly tinting. I've been using henna for years and it is a huge difference. I went from mousey brown hair to a very rich red. And my mom has light brown and gray hair and hers is so vibrant and it doesn't fade. We only touch-up out roots as needed. Oh and he said boiling water only. That's a huge no no. Boiling water kills the dye. Room temp to warm is best for best results. I just hate seeing people get misinformed by people who don't use henna regularly. 👍
