*edit* SnakeSkins are for the hammock AND the rain fly, not just the fly. Also, to be on the safe side, best not to put a wet fly inside the SnakeSkins as mold may occur.
Ben from www.topcampinghammocks.com tests out the Jungle Expedition Zip from Hennessy Hammock with the SnakeSkins and Heat Reflecting Double Bubble Pad.

This man pulled off an almost unheard of feat on KZbin: he made a video that was well shot, instructive, clear, concise and not annoying. Thank you, good sir. I would follow you into battle. (No, I'm not military. I'm a guitar player. I'm jus sayin") :)

great video on mine I keep the snake skins over both the hammock and fly so its all combined into one small package I also have a hex fly but in order to use that it has to have its own set of snake skins I had the velcro version expedition and hated it I might add the 4 season super shelter was worthless and a waste of money for really cold weather camping

Thanks for this nice video. Do you know if a Thermarest sleeping pad would work without too much slipping around in the pocket?

My first hammock was a HH expedition. Then the safari then UL backpacker. Love them all. Ended up keeping the deep jungle xl. Still use it. Now I mai my use my Warbonnet xlc or Amok draumr. Great video.

So draumr is that much better? I'm indecisive because there's so many hammocks to choose from... I do want a sleeping pad just in case I have to sleep on the ground, and I'm inbetween the Draumr, the Haven and the henessy double layer rn

Thank you for the great video!!! Very helpful! One question, is it normal that my hammock sinks down when I get in? I set it up at eye level, and I'm kind short, when I get in I can feel my butt on the ground. Should I just tie it higher or maybe my strings were not tight enough??

Hey Ben, currently deciding between this and the Expedition Zip and the Jungle Expedition Zip. Does he jungle require an underquilt or sleeping pad, or is it insulated enough for 3 season camping?
@davidlarson1399
@davidlarson1399 10 ай бұрын
All/any hammocks need insulation on the bottom. The double layer is nice for insects or if you want to put insulation between the layers, versus laying directly on top of a pad. I have a dozen HH's, ranging from 4-season Explorer, Jungle Safari XXL to ultra backpacker. I see no issues at all laying directly on a pad. TBH, other than a thin foam I use in the double bottoms, I always choose to lay directly on the inflatable pad, for all models. If you are in temps under 40F, you will get a cold back w/o insulation. I use my HH's every year in -20F temps. I use a good tarp and over cover (HH over cover #2). The over covers are fine for zip models - HH say classic only, but that's not true. I clip the over cover on the non zipper side and once in, you can clip the zipper side.

The snake skin is for the hammock . And you can keep the rain fly on the hammock and use the snake skin for both .

Hey Ben, I just found your channel. It looks great! I'm new to hammocks and looking at either a Hennessy or an Amok. I'm 6' and 250lbs so I need the larger hammocks. Can you recommend a few hammocks for the larger person? Thanks. Look forward to seeing more of your videos!
@topcampinghammocks4372
@topcampinghammocks4372 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Jim! The Jungle Expedition Hennessy probably has more accessory options in that you have the ability to use not only a sleeping pad, but an under quilt. That particular one is rated for "up to 250lbs" and "up to 6ft" so you'd be pushing both those limits. There is a Jungle Explorer Zip XL - which looks like it is currently sold out on Hennessy's website - but that is rated for up to 7ft and 300lbs...so that would be a great way to go. I haven't tested it out personally yet but Hennessy is a great company so you can count on the quality being there. We do have an Amok Draumr and Draumr XL, with associated Fjol sleeping pads. Haven’t had the chance to do a video for them yet but they are awesome. Super comfortable and the added enjoyment that comes out of being able to use your hammock as a recliner is actually amazing. They have, in my humble opinion, a superior sleeping pad and substantially more storage and room inside. That being said, a whole rig will cost about $100 more and a little harder to set up. But the XL can hold up to 400lbs....so you're definitely good to go there! Final answer, if you will be trekking in the late summer - winter... Hennessy with adequate fly, pad and under quilt. If you are looking for a super fun way to replace your tent on frequent summer or early fall trips, Amox hammock are stellar. TLDR - hope this helps! Thanks for the great question!

How tall are you? You look to be about the same build as me, but wondering if you would recommend getting the larger Explorer XL over the Expedition for someone 5'9" - 5'10"?
@topcampinghammocks4372
@topcampinghammocks4372 3 жыл бұрын
I'm 6ft exactly. If you're not going to be packing your hammock for a hike, I would typically size up as a personal preference. More room is always a plus! The advantage the Jungle has over the Explorer is that it's a 2 layer bottom, so if you are hanging in a particularly buggy environment, that can be a pretty big bonus.

I'm 6'1 and I don't want to get the XL size because of the cost in price and weight. How tall are you and do you think I could get away with the average large size?

Is it possible to fold both Hammock and Rainfly together in Snake skin?
@topcampinghammocks4372
@topcampinghammocks4372 3 жыл бұрын
Yes! The Snakeskins are actually designed for the hammock and the rain fly, not just the fly. Just be sure to dry out your fly before folding in to Snakeskins to avoid any potential mold issues.

It's been tough to choose a hammock from their catalogue, some nice option between them. Would you say the Jungle exp is a better choice over the normal Expedition zip ? Just to have that double layer with the possibility to put the bubble pad inside for winter camping? I feel like it could become a big deal having a pad moving around in the hammock compared to having it under the hamac itself. They both are made to be able to clip the pad onto the hamac so it's fixed, but it might makes sense to have the Jungle version for that sole reason.
@topcampinghammocks4372
@topcampinghammocks4372 4 жыл бұрын
You are absolutely correct! It’s really nice having the pad as a separate portion of the hammock and not something you have to deal with inside your sleeping space. The dual layer on the Jungle Exp also works as an excellent bug barrier on it’s own, as well as in conjunction with a pad, hence it being our recommendation for extra buggy environments. It is a tiny bit heavier, and has a slightly larger pack size, but if these things are not an issue I think the Jungle Expedition is definitely worth it. Thanks for the question!
@TerrificFlow
@TerrificFlow 4 жыл бұрын
@@topcampinghammocks4372 Thank YOU for the answer mate. Would you say a Jungle Exp with a bubble pad is a better system than a 4season Exp with the foam pad? They seem identical in structure, only the isolation pad changes, which gives them a 5°C vs 4°C... Comparing cost, there's a 17euros difference between them, making it difficult to choose one over the other.
@topcampinghammocks4372
@topcampinghammocks4372 4 жыл бұрын
@@TerrificFlow Another great question! I haven’t gotten the chance to take the 4season for a spin yet, but based on my experience with the Jungle Zip, I would say that it really comes down to where and when you’ll be camping. The open cell pad sounds like it’s really legit at keeping you comfortable (and it comes with the hammock) where as the Bubble pad would be a separate purchase. There is definitely enough room between the layers on the Jungle Zip to incorporate your own inflatable pad if you’re so inclined. Even with the Bubble pad in place. Either way, you’ll have the ability to insulate yourself in a similar fashion when it gets chilly. Whichever you choose, I can say that you will not be disappointed. Happy Camping!

Seems I got ripped off!!! I had bought the original asymetric jungle hammock for 450$ about idk 8 years ago, it has the sanke skins and big net, but doesnt have a built in Ridgeline, and all the little orings and hooks. I bought the extra large tarp, have the original, also bought the water catchment funnels for the tarp. Its a very noce hammock, but I see I massively over paid, and bought directly from Hennessy...kinda bumbed that I got ripped off, now that their only like 270-300 as opposed to the 500+ I paid....
