Non-oboe players will NEVER truly understand how noteworthy it is that he can make the lower and higher notes sound so effortless and blend so seamlessly together. That is SO hard to do. It’s like singing, it’s not easy at all to smoothly and softly go from low notes to high notes without straining or having a noticeable break in your range.

Many years ago (in 1998, I believe), I worked at the K-Mart in the small Tennessee town I lived in. I worked with one of the most fascinating (and kind) people I've ever known, a man named Wayne. He was a former concert pianist of 20-something years. He had worked at half a dozen opera houses around the world over his career. We talked about music in many, if not most of our conversations. At the end of that year, he gave me a Christmas present of a handful of CDs of his favorite recordings of much of the music he had shared with me. My one significant contribution to our many discussions of classical music, was when I told him about how "Gabriel's Oboe" was one of the most beautiful pieces of music that I'd ever heard. His response was to gently correct my pronunciation of "Ennio Morricone," and to tell me that he was in a New York bar one evening, many years earlier, talking music through the night with Mr. Morricone. I'll never forget the year I spent having those many conversations with a man named Wayne.

In school I played the oboe too. I felt the same way you expressed. I went to a huge school and remember there being so many that played the snare drum, saxophone, clarinet and flute... We used to perform a mini solo for a grade and I'd get a little embarrassed because my instrument (sound) was so different than everyone else's. Over time I learned and realized this is a beautiful sounding instrument and not the easiest to learn and master. I encourage you to keep at it, if you enjoy playing. Look up oboe orchestra solos for inspiration.

Okay I came across this video about a year ago by accident when I was doing my school homework. I was in complete shock of how beautiful and breathtaking this song was and instantly I felt a connection with it. A few weeks later I mentioned the song to my band teacher. She said she had heard of it and that it was beautiful. A few weeks after that I had a lesson with her (I play oboe myself) and she was stressing about the music selection for our concert. I (without thinking) offered the idea of performing this piece... she loved it. She told me we would perform this piece and I was over the moon exited. That was a year ago and now in three days I will be performing this beautiful work of art as an oboe soloist accompanied by my middle school band. This song, this oboist, even the conductor and the band sparked something within me so strong I had no idea I could even feel. I love this song with all I have and I hope to do it justice on our concert.

I, like you, played oboe once when I was in middle school. However, unlike you, I didn't love the instrument, I thought it produced the most annoying sound ever... The only reason I played it in middle school was because my band teacher told me I had a talent for it. Apparently not everyone can play this instrument, let alone produce a sound from it. The reason I'm telling you this is because just recently I listened to this piece and it made me shed a couple tears. Believe me, I am not a person who cries, I usually surpress my emotions, but something unexplainable happened... Hearing the beautiful sounds of the oboe took me back. It was as if the instrument want to prove to me just how wrong I was. This is a beautiful instrument, difficult to master, yes, but just be patient. It is one that requires patience, only then can you unlock it's heavenly sounds. I regret putting the oboe down 10 years ago, I was simply a naive little boy. I can see that I'm about a month late on this reply, sorry. I hope your concert went well. Don't forget to cherish these moments and believe in your self. Don't give up on oboe as I did. Best of luck buddy. I sincerely wish you the best.

Listening to this for the first time I realised I was familiar with the peice and was expecting the high note to sing out really powerfully, so when it softly floated out like that it was just this beautiful surprise that brought me to tears.

When a piece of music can allow you to close your eyes and feel your soul elevated so you want to stay in that moment, you've been blessed. This rendition of E. Morricone's Gabriel's Oboe preformed by Mister Henrik Chaim Goldschmidt and The Faroe Islands Philharmonic Orchestra takes me there. THANK YOU for making this piece more than music.

Yes! I put the theme to the mission at the top of my list and listen to it daily. I also like Yo-Yo Ma's rendition as well. I want this to be the last thing I hear as life slips away in my time. I swell with emotion every time I listen.

One of the most amazing performances I've ever heard on KZbin. This little, fragile, delicate instrument played so emotionally and powerfully at the same time. And the last few notes... that final octave jump blew my mind for the perfect sound tuning and most careful gentle touch... the orchestra did an outstanding job making sure the whole piece was gently carried forward and sustained perfectly. What an amazing musical content right here. 👏👏🙂✨️🎵🎶💙🎹 AL

His control of the upper register is incredible. He'll make the high A sound completely warm and beautiful, even though it is very difficult to give high notes that type of texture and sound. They don't sound stringy or out of tune like every other oboe player including me would make them. You really have to appreciate his skill.

Aniarable Channel, years and years of practice! And did I mention years of practice? Beautiful playing!
@thejman34895 жыл бұрын
Aniarable Channel part of it has to do with the reed. If you scrape it just right you can make a reed capable of doing that. But you also have to practice a lot to be able to play like that.

Ive heard well over a dozen different people play this song and this one is by far the best------it's also a minute longer than others. That slower tempo and increased duration is so critical to sustain certain notes longer to elevate the listeners feelings to a higher measure making the entire experience so dramatic and moving to the heart.
