Great technique but how do I avoid the North/South choke when I go to break the pants grip?

I like it but each time I've attempted to pop out like this the player on top just shifts to north south/other side cross body to keep top control. Is there a good way to shut that down? Thanks.

Three things that annoy me about this guy. 1. Why keep referring to side control as the "cross side". The whole BJJ world refers to the position as SIDE CONTROL why can't he. 2. The teaching style is as though the audience has never heard of BJJ as though he is teaching class in the 80's. 3. Enough with telling us that he's a Rickson blackbelt. At this stage of his teaching career his name should be enough.
