You have to remember the AR7 is an emergency "survival" rifle. It was not intended to be an everyday rifle however some folks use it for that. It is accurate and runs fine on a wide variety of ammo but its weakness is the feed ramps on the mags. Do not damage the feed ramps or the mag is useless and you might as well get a replacement mag. Henry perfected the mag. The mag problems the AR7 had were eliminated with a wire keeper on the mag. Henry basically reengineered the rifle so that it runs reliably where before with other manufacturers it did not. Henry did it right. The plastic butt cap will stretch and loosen over time so a strip of duct tape around the butt end will snug the cap back up again. Yes it will float long enough to retrieve it but it is not waterproof and will not float indefinitely. It is very durable and corrosion resistant. I do have a ammo pouch and loop sling for it but when you add more ammo than what is onboard it will no longer float. The butt stock will hold up to three fully loaded factory mags including one in the receiver but it only comes with two so you would have to order a spare third mag. I would not even think about putting a scope or optic on it as it would no longer fit in the butt stock. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, Henry made an outstanding 22LR survival rifle, but too many people make too much over its buoyancy, when most people never drop their rifles into the drink! Most people who would need this rifle would never have the opportunity to do so. I would rather have the gun carry more rounds than for it to be able to float or not to float.

@@johnroberts6695 : They (after market manufacturer...not Henry) make all steel barrels for this rifle too...so now, you can do some decent plinking with it without worrying about wearing out the thin steel original barrel. (I have one on mine)

@@michaelmaston4702 » Yes, thank you for that. Henry's not in the habit of producing junk, even when it isn't making it themselves. As for Charter Arms, not so much. I've owned two 38Spc 2-inchers and three of the 44Spc Bulldogs (in the 80s), and none of them worked. They were all stainless models and all suffered issues with binding. It was a time when second-rate handgun manufacturers were having problems with stainless steel. The great thing about the Henry AR-7 is that it works! You can stow it in the holds of a boat or toss it in the back of an airplane. It's a great company!

I bought one in late August of this year and I had a problem with accuracy. I discovered I had a belt barrel so I called Henry and they sent me a new barrel;. They had a batch of defected barrels according to them. Once I replaced it tis shoots great. I love my AR7 and I highly recommend it. Very light weight and easy to shoot. BTW the front sight was a bit wide for me so I filed the sides a bit to make it more pin point. Henrys a great company, they stand by their products.

I think my favorite thing about the AR-7 is that since it's designed to come apart so easily you can put whatever goofy business you want on that receiver and build whatever you want it to be, and be back to stock in two minutes, while dumping rounds for pennies on the dollar.

I just bought mine. Have yet to shoot it. So far it fits perfectly under my seat in my car, in a backpack, in the empty space behind my vanity in my bathroom or pretty much anywhere I want to hide it. Basically a small package that you can grab and go in a SHTF situation; you know you have ammo and everything you need: it floats in water, your wife and kids can use it with ease and its not so expensive that you'll kick yourself for having to ditch it. I also ordered a 15rd mag just for fun. Another bonus is Ive seen people build their Ar7 in under 1 minute so its possible with training to build and shoot on the fly if you have 1 minute that is.

I bought the earlier model AR-7 when they first came out back in the 80’s. I was an engineer and I used to take it on the train with me. When we would stop in sidings to meet other trains in remote areas of WY or SD, my brakeman and I would gather up those mildly explosive torpedoes from all the locomotives and hang ‘em on barb wire fences and shoot them. Boom! Plinking out in the middle of nowhere was a great way to pass some time. Retired now. 😊

However I'm come to love the rifle, however the only thing I don't like about it is the stock I have drawn up several different designs four different styles of socks cluding straight quarter inch rail style as well as some sort of composite! I'm not worried about it floated I wanted collapsible and small! Love the video

I got one about a year ago. Rather than put it in a typical carry bag in my SUV, I was in a junk shop and found an old tennis racket bag with a nice liner. Dropped it in that and into the SUV. Thief looks in, sees a beat up old tennis bag, passes on to the next vehicle to steal sumpin better! LOL I did buy a third mag since I discovered that the mech can be stored with a mag in place, so I carry 3 mags with the unit…should still float! Thanks for the plinking and range test!

Ted B Go look up Sootch00 KZbin Channel on the Henry AR7 video titled: Henry U S Survival Rifle AR7. You will like that video. I think it also covers field strip for cleaning. I paid $216 for mine way back not long after the first scarcity of .22 rimfire ammo during the Obama years. Mine has been great with a wide variety of ammo. A few things about the Henry AR7, do not damage the feed ramps on the mags or you will have to get new mags. Only use Henry AR7 mags. Other brand mags will not work reliably. Also you may find that the plastic butt cap will stretch over time and loosen but you can put a strip of duct tape on the butt end to snug it up again.

I’m one of those weirdos who actually likes this rifle! I bought one of the original Armalites for $39 at JC Penny of all places, and if you kept it clean, it was reliable, but like a dummy, I sold it. I also had an early Charter Arms, and it was good, it also worked well when kept clean, especially the bbl face. I love the remarkably simple mechanism. I replaced a broken spring once with a bobby pin, and it worked! I also had a later Charter, and it was junk. Bought an AR7 Industries, and it was good. Still have it, but I would like a Henry. All were accurate. Not really meant for hard use, but ok for plinking and true survival. Even if you only use it as a single shot. You can’t beat a 10-22 TD.

Type of .22 ammo in this AR7 is paramount .. I just ran 300 rounds of CCI polymer coated 22 through my Henry AR7 only two little hiccups out of 300 rounds pretty good.. accuracy was just okay as it's hard to aim with this little peep sight and big blade.. but at closer ranges no problem NOTE : if you have a small scope or AimPoint red dot you want to mount.. you have to remove it to store in the stock.. but what you could do is just remove the barrel and leave the stock in place with the scope on it.. you can also get a quick disconnect type of scope or Red Dot...

I wouldn't mind a breakdown rifle, even if it was single shot, that could take 45-70, maybe 45 LC, .410, .410 flairs, giving you the ability to take down large game (with the 45-70) small game (.410 buck), defense (.45 LC), signal distress. essentially a wide selection of options.

Maybe I am dreaming, but as a kid, when the original AR-7 first appeared I keep thinking it was also available in 25 acp, and a friend of mine owns a barrel and magazine for one in 25 acp,,,,, does anyone else remember or know about this ? I sure wish they would make some in other calibers. A .32 H&R magnum would be about perfect.
@robertmiles9942
@robertmiles9942 Жыл бұрын
I've never heard of this, but the AR-7 is rimfire so a lot of parts would need to change for it to handle a centerfire cartridge such as the 25acp, but I suppose in theory a new magazine, barrel, bolt and ejector might make that possible. There was an AR-5 predecessor that was bolt action in .22 hornet. As far as the AR-7 goes, .32 Magnum or anything else that's more powerful than .22lr is an absolute no-go due to the lightweight cast receiver. It's strong enough for its current job but no more.
@johnunderwood5115
@johnunderwood5115 Жыл бұрын
@@robertmiles9942 if I recall correctly, the two were not interchangeable. Seperate distinct versions and yes I do know the cast receiver is not strong enough for even the .22 magnum.
