The AR-7 Survival rifle from Henry Rifle. This survival rifle was invented by Eugene Stoner under the Armalite brand for Air Force pilots, eventually Henry bought the rights to this unique 22LR rifle. Since then it has built a cult following with outdoorsmen, survivalist, backpackers, hikers, etc. The unique feature of this rifle is the ability to store the barrel, receiver and up to three magazines into the plastic stock of the rifle.

Folks a 22lr is a versatile caliber you can carry quite a few rounds weight wise compared to larger caliber. Plus it’s report is not excessively loud. USAF issued them to pilots for a down situation. I hear so many say. 22lr won’t hurt you hmmmm any well placed shot and you drop many are killed yearly by this alleged small Ca round.

Don’t get me wrong I wouldn’t want to be hit with one but 22LR isn’t a good self defense round. It’s good for plinking and hunting small critters

A.22 will still kill easily many videos on ballistics gel and those fake body’s ..don’t get me wrong I’d rather have a 5.56 or my 9mm but it was intended for survival so either way your 22 will keep you alive and eating till you get home

@@Ren-lx8wv It kills more people than any caliber. It can kill immediately with a heart shot or heat shot but will still kill over time with an arterial shot, lung shot, gut shot, spleen shot, or femur shot potentially. So it can easily kill you, just not as easily as a bigger chunk of lead. Survival rates between .22 and 9mm aren't very different

The ar-7 was one of the first guns i ever got to shoot. I picked one up recently and plan on letting my boys shoot it soon. Its a fun little gun that vanishes in the pack which makes it a perfect camping plinker. Yes its goofy looking but honestly its a fun gun i honestly believe any gun owner should have in the safe.

For the folks who want a magnum version, I doubt it will happen, primarily for economic reasons, but also for logistical reasons as well. First, Henry is in business to be profitable first. That's how a company thrives. Secondly, they strive to produce a superior product and the logistics of upsizing to a potential AR-7M would pretty much require non-interchangeability between models. Case and head diameters are different. Case lengths are different. Pressures are substantially different, likely requiring a redesigned barrel, not just a reamed chamber. As designed, the survival rifle was meant for long stowage and very short usage. Henry has probably already spent more time and money on making the better version than they've recovered in sales. It's very likely (the Imperatos are quite intelligent) that they have already seriously considered the feasibility of a magnum version and found it possible from an engineering view, but a fail from the financial view. Ammo prices have exploded thanks to the horror of 2020 election. .22 Magnum was already expensive and hasn't gotten any better, just .22LR has worsened. The price gap is still in favor of the LR ammo, making it still more desirable in the market. Henry could probably produce a new chambering for the AR-7 with just a barrel change and that could be the .17 caliber version of the LR ammo. I have a Marlin in the .17 Mach 2 caliber. It's a good rifle and the round is interesting, but it's not a good hunting round for anything larger than a jackrabbit at short to medium range. When I obtained the rifle, I was trying to get the HMR version, but the guy who ordered it and I didn't know that there was a pipsqueak .17 caliber cartridge. When he ordered it by stock number, it came as the tiny round chambering. I've enjoyed its accuracy and it's not loud at all. The ammo wasn't too expensive, so I liked that aspect. Anyway, Henry could chamber it in the AR-7 easily, but I see a likely problem. The 17-20gr bullet is so light that it probably can't push the bolt back against the spring, requiring manual bolt operation. Sorry for the long dissertation, but I'm afraid the idea of a .22 magnum version of the AR-7 is very unlikely to materialize.

SHTF.. yes we own guns for it. If you gotta get out of dodge , there's no gas and your wife and little kids are waiting. Your gun safe is waiting, your street sweeper is yelling "pick me", you would but you soon realize a pound of shells are only 9 shells. Not many. Your 9mm pistol is not only heavy but there's only 30 rounds per pound. Oof. Wifey is loading coolers with salami. Pick. If you ask me...the AR7 and a .22 pistol, both use bullets that come 134 per pound. Ya can fill up everyone's pockets with ammo and if you want rabbit with salami you won't blow up the meat with a shotgun shell. And you'll have 133 rounds left.
