I somehow agree with Dempsey. They gotta play some of the big national teams. Spain, France, England, ... all those players have been playing against top national team all their life, and most of them play in the biggest clubs in the world. They know how the "big boys" play. The USA guys dont' have taht experience. If the first contact USA has with them is in the championship, they are gonna feel like a truck hit them in the face, mid-championship. And so will the fans.

Thirty Henry is right about concaf opinion, times are changing and have change too much now, the game are changing from Europe to other leagues now, other leagues are balling now if not better than Europe. MLS is huge now, LALi huge and other leagues too. People are waking up in sport bussiness

Clint is 100% right. Donovan is a dufus and a bitter guy who is pissed because he couldn't hack it in Europe so he wants to make sure all Americans follow his lead. Regarding the European commentators (not just Carragher & Henry), along with European fans, there is a lack of respect for American players and is quite evident. Reyna may not be good enough to start on a top European team, but he can if he is healthy play for them and come off the bench and do well or play on a small club in the top 5 leagues and start. If Gio Reyna was from Spain or Italy, trust and believe the narrative would be different.

Well we all know americans are humans like anyone else and can be just as good at football as anyone else. But the difference is the US may be underdogs but at the same time are not really underdogs because its the US. The most powerful country in the world. Massive sports market , sports stars earning massive amounts eventhough the sport is only watched within its borders. A giant country and population. Football is being catered to them at the moment hosting many tourneys , even plans to have european competitve games there, every summer get friendly competiton with big clubs , have the big stars go over to their league, own half the teams. For a country where football is 'not popular' they sure get everything. The US are not really underdogs in this manner. The US may get better at football just out of shear money and power (they probably have more people playing football than England). A nation like Morocco where football is out and out the most popular sport is a good counter-balance. 67 % of the national team are first-gen born from Europe because Morocco does not have infastructure as good as europe to develop its own players. In this manner the Morocco is the underdog. ps.

in football, no one cares about anything except for accomplishments and skills, a player could be from north Korea, if he has skills, and if he can contribute to a team in a significant way and do well, then the respect comes automatically, its about meritocracy, not what you are owed or feel like you deserve. Most American players are bang average at best, thats not hate, not bias, it's facts. Even pullisic didn't cut it in England and he is decent in an average Milan side in a league that favors low tempos.

You could just replace American with bad players and you’d be correct, it has nothing to do with the nation they’re from. Nobody likes French people but they’re good at football. People like Americans they’re just severely under the level. That’s just a fact, if the best athletes in the country played it the narritive would be completely different to because they would be half decent but they’re not. It’s not disrespectful to point that out. Americans are just so soft when it comes to criticism, if you think this is bad you should hear how they talk about their rivals or just the innocent people from the city of there rivals😂😂😂

Donavana was considered as the best USA greatest player but he failed in Europe even Demarcus Beasley did much better than him, Freddy Adu was considered as the next big thing in football since Ronaldo de Lima but he failed dismally and he was a Nike project Cobi Jones and Mcbride were said to be USA but never did anything outside US only their goalkeepers had done well outside US Tim Howard and Friedel, Dempsey was ok at Fulham, Jozy Altidore did ok at Netherlands but after that he struggled. So Pullisic for me is still the best USA player ever

Europe was a more hostile playing environment for Americans when Landon played in Germany as a teenager. He made the best decisions he knew to make at that time in his life. His later loans at Everton were solid. He could be counted on to come up big on the big occasions against the big teams for his national team. Needless to say, Gio needs to find a way to play at the highest level he can while he is still young, not just sign a contract at the highest level.
