The Warhammer 40k universe is difficult. There are NO good guys. Most movies have a simple good/bad devide, otherwise the studio fear the viewers don't know who to cheer for. When Amazon announced they wanted to adapt 40k, I actually expected them to learn from past mistakes when they choose Henry as a producer. But they only wanted a label of authenticity, not the real deal.

I was a games journalist in the ZX Spectrum and Commodore 64 days, (mid to late 1980's) and we didn't have any of the diversity/he/she/they/them pronoun BS to deal with. Warhammer 40k tv/movies would get dull very quickly if a custodes was on screen frequently because there aren't many things that can actually threaten them in lore. They're also not really known for having much humanity/character. Warhammer40K is nothing like any other Genre with it's root's deep in horror, destruction and exploitation of humanity for survival. The beauty of Warhammer 40K is the struggle and desperation of humanity to survive willing to do anything to itself and the galaxy. This is not a typical good bed time story genre. The story of The Emperor Of Mankind and the struggle of humanity is iron cast within 400 books and growing. Each story depict's Fascism, brain washing, brain hacking, religious fanaticism where entire planet's are sometimes exterminated in totality using nukes, virus bombs and worse. Yes worse than Nukes and Virus Bombs. Nyrion I suggest you look into this universe more than a passing moment. Warhammer 40K is everything and more in the nightmare fuel that would drive the Politically motivated agenda seeking pacifists to total insanity. Fascism is the way of life in the 40K Universe. The Brutal visceral destruction trampling on human rights and dignity in the genre is the norm. How dark does this universe get one might ask? To that question there is no answer other than what ever it would take for mankind to survive. How far are those limits of the human will to survive? The limit's in strength unbound, the limit's of the human mind stretched to the point of hacking the brain to forever be a floating skull or cybernetic killing machine. The very Space Marine or Astarte people see in the games and books are genetically engineered humans that are painfully altered, surgically cut, injected and spliced to the point of breaking often starting at the age 10 years old. They are taken from there parents or given freely by fanatical parents and trained only to serve fight and die. Less than 1 in 1000 humans survive the transformation to become an Astarte. Once an Astarte these survivor's are then mind wiped and brain washed completely to only serve. The weapons SpaceMarines use they do not understand completely and the weaponry are items of worship, faith and honor. The very armor they wear is a symbol of faith, the incarnation manifest of the Emperor's will. They are the living wrath of mankind against the void of the universe. The Universe of Warhammer 40K is staggeringly violent and that is the appeal. What I wrote here is brief so thank you for going this far with my rant. Nothing would please me more than for Warhammer 40K to break the mind virus that is at this very time putting the weak minded to their knees in outrage.

I really think its an important thing to support equality etc… It‘s just not done right… If you enrage the Fanbase of the Franchise, your message won‘t get trough… even if its a morally right message! In Addition to that, most large Companies don‘t do it because they believe in the message…. In contrary… in its core, Warhammer is a dystopian setting, its a world we dont want to live in, so inequality fits right into the narrative while even sending the message they want to send! And in the end, Games have to be fun to play and shows have to be fun to watch… And if they are not, nobody plays/watches them. Not sure how well known this is. I looked up the Adeptus Custodes to learn more about them and when I read through the Warhammer 40k fandom wiki, in the opening summary it states : "The Custodes is an elite cadre of genetically-engineered transhuman male and female warriors who are even more potent in combat than the Adeptus Astartes." So did someone add the "Female warriors" part since they added it to the one book recently that had everyone in an uproar?

Yes they have... But the issue is not about the fact badass females warriors are in the Lore. It's how it's done... And how idiot this is... Because females warriors badass are ALREADY in the Lore and well represented. Battle sisters (a whole order of warrior nuns in power armors) and their Living Saint (immortal demi goddess of war). The Sisters of Silence, who are the other side of the Custodes (powerful against the Warp and mental shit, when the Custodian are fully physical warrior) and said be equal to them (not physically, but in power and importance) And of course the classic Guard (common army of normal people) is full of female officers and heroes. Add the female Inquisitor... So why the hell forcefeed and break the Lore old of 30 years, to add from nowhere and Retcon the story material like that? Why not make figs and new characters to expend the already strong and well established females in the universe?

Pretty much I agree, games should be first and foremost about fun. And you can have some message, if you can build a decent narrative around it, people always go back to Metal Gear Solid, which has a "don't trust the government" subtheme. The Great Rebellion has a "value your heritage and traditions" theme that is much more "in your face", but it still is a fun game first, a message second.

Even if these studios started to watch videos about it. Take Bethesda for example. The only thing you will hear most youtubers talking about is how the mechanics are so bad. That's pretty much it. I don't know if they're afraid to talk about "THE MESSAGE" all throughout the game. I don't know if they have no idea how important a story is to a game and especially a coherent universe. Could be they're all just that thick. However, from the major storylines to random NPCs all you see throughout are terrible gender flopped stories (Also pervasive throughout the recent diablo game) where it'll be a minor dialog or story about a strong independent woman in some cases with a very effeminate husband. Alternatively in starfield you see several cases where transgenderism is pushed straight up.

What they don't get is that their voices DO NOT MATTER. Nobody listens to them, noone ever did. They just got backed up by companies who, for who knows why, decided that go full woke was the best for the medium, which was, as sales show, a stupid decision. Everything about Warhammer is extreme caricature of some themes. Having female Custodes is silly when you have other females or groups that are just as feared in the lore, like the Sisters of Silence or Saint Celestine, Inquisitors so you could incorporate some of those into the movies/shows without trying to retcon the lore.

It's a pitty we even have to talk about them (the game "journalists"). I feel that for years they have been joked about on KZbin by people who actually play video games and we have all agreed collectively that the SCORE is a joke. Remember when COD used to get 9/10 or 10/10 always? Yeah nah they were good games but not THAT good. When the fans defend the franchise, and the company that created the franchise betray those fans, you have to realize that the company has sold their soul. It will sadly only be a matter of time before they strongarm things to go their way and abandon the fans that have built up their franchise. All for people that don't even like their franchise or even partake and enjoy their franchise. I love wh. Been playing and learning lore for about 15 years now. I remember talking to old heads that remembered GW having female space marines in lore waaay back in the day but they were retconned because the models didn’t sell. I remember sisters of battle being the army no one bought because space nuns was a silly idea. I’m still not mad at any of this. 40k needs to be respected, and defended as is. We don’t need female space marines or custodes. We want stories from established women in the universe. They could have spun a story on a female guardsman fighting for her absolute life. They could explore a sister that finds power armor and does what she has to do to survive, thanking the emperor for her blessing and going through a miracle to use parts she needs temporarily. I’d be happier with spun crazy lore rather than jackhammering women into space marines. Hell, give me trans plot with a transman born able to take a gene seed. Really piss people off. Atleast they could rationalize that as cannon and extremely rare. Women being able to go through the process when they never could before destroys the point of battle sisters. Custodes already have sisters of silence. We want stories from THEM. From struggling guardswomen. Hell, I’ll take a gd tau story with a strong female lead. A female who won’t budge from the greater good only to realize over time they can’t fully commit to good without doing evil things. ELDAR. ANYTHING. there’s so much opportunity for diversity in 40k. We just don’t need to break established lore in order to be market friendly. 40k is grimdark. Not Star Wars.
