I like all the military branches, but the Navy is my personal favorite. It's the branch my grandpa served in during WW2. I've always admired Henry Fonda for his wartime service, especially for someone who was already an established actor and in his upper 30s during the time of his enlistment.

Henry is is two of my favorites for different reasons. Mr Roberts is a favorite to watch. Battle of the Bulge is one I say is so bad it has to be seen. It's not the actors who make it bad, just the historical inaccuracy. The actors are worth to see.

BG Theodore Roosevelt landed on Utah Beach, not Omaha. He was assistant Division Commander of the 4th Infantry Division and had served as the assistant Division Commander of the 1st "Big Red One" Division in North Africa and Sicily. He was not a professional soldier but was incredibly brave citizen soldier who was too old and too sickly to really fight in World War II. That being said his Medal of Honor was 100% well deserved. He was a true American Hero.

His son landed on Omaha Beach. He landed on Utah. Thought I made that pretty clear.

There are lots of people in Hollywood that served you should consider doing Directors Samul fuller WWII, Oliver Stone Vietnam, John Huston WWII, Joseph Sargent WWII, William Wyler WWII, Mel Brooks WWII Guy Hamilton WWII, John Schlesinger WWII Actors Michael Caine Korea, Bob gutton (warden norton Shawshank) vietnam, Dennis Franz (NYPD blue) vietnam, Douglas Fairbanks jr (WWII founded the beach jumpers this unit and UDT were precursors to todays Seal teams), Charles Durnning WWII, You also should consider fiction writers who used there experiences to write about fictionalized portrayals of military service Joseph Heller (Catch 22 USAAF WWII) Richard Hooker (MASH, Korean war) Erich Maria Remarque (All Quiet on the Western Front, German Army first World War) Hope you appreciate the suggestions

Yes it is being able to get more than a couple of lines about their service which is the problem.

I think 1 of Fonda's most memorable roles was as Abe Lincoln in Young Mr Lincoln.

Really good stuff...it is great that you are highlighting Henry Fonda...he is well worth talking about. I really hope you get a good response to this one. I was a little bit surprised that you did not mention the OTHER movie in which Fonda played Admiral Chester Nimitz, Otto Preminger's epic In Harm's Way from 1965. Granted, it was not a big part...more of a cameo...but considering the significance of the film, maybe it was worth mentioning? Also, I know you mentioned Fonda's Tony Award winning part in the Broadway play of Mister Roberts, but the movie version from 1955 was also a huge hit, and is one of my core memories from my youth...that and the Caine Mutiny...so I feel like that was something to highlight as well. I guess I am picking a few nits...just a couple of items I would have tried to find space for...but you did a great job no matter what my nitpicker says, so thank you for spreading the word about one of the greatest American actors.💯👍

Thanks mate. So far the fish don't like the bait. KZbin is like a slot machine, you never know which video is going to be popular. I missed a bit as you say but I just mentioned what always stood out to me.

Henry Fonda made an excellent Nimitz I thought. Both versions of Midway are good films.

Hi W & T, Didn't FDR, Jr die of a heart an MI (heart attack) on D-Day? I know he was suffering from RA (rheumatoid arthritis) so that waiver was required not just for age, but also for disability. (His son Quinton was name for a brother, who I think was KIA in WW1.) Thanks much!

As you see, Henry Fonda and Glenn Ford could wear their own khakis when portraying naval officers. 😉

He could still have served in a rear capacity. His own favorite director basically called him a coward. I don’t know why the guy who runs this channel won’t touch this topic?
