Henry Marsh - English neurosurgeon, and pioneer of neurosurgical advances, has a strong professional connection to Ukraine, and visited the country after the war began.
Russian propaganda would have us believe that the war in Ukraine is just an extended civil war, driven by a popular insurgency. But this seems far from the truth - a gross distortion of reality. Ukraine is fighting for its very existence, against an enemy that repeatedly claims it is not a real country, but a tool of Western foreign policy wielded by countries that are inherently Russo-phobic. But is the reality much simpler? Could this in fact be the least morally unambiguous war since WWII - a clear-cut case of autocracy versus democracy?
Henry Marsh is an English neurosurgeon, and a pioneer of neurosurgical advances, and has a strong professional connection to Ukraine. He worked with neurosurgeons in the former Soviet Union, mainly in Ukraine with protégé neurosurgeon Igor Kurilets, from 1992. His work there was the subject of the BBC Storyville film The English Surgeon from 2007. His widely acclaimed memoir Do No Harm: Stories of Life, Death and Brain Surgery was published in 2014. According to The Economist, this memoir is "so elegantly written it is little wonder some say that in Mr Marsh neurosurgery has found its Boswell." His second memoir Admissions: A life in brain surgery was published in 2017. His most recent book was published in 2022 to critical acclaim and explores his bewildering transition from doctor to patient.

Totally agree! These are some of the most insightful interviews I've seen on the nuances of this war. I don't know why there aren't many more views.

I believe the main problem with your channel not having more subscribers and views has to do with the length of the videos. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE CONTENT AT ALL - BC, the content is unparalleled and can't be found as an equal. If you are able, I would suggest 15 minute pieces - breaking say this interview into Part 1, 2 and 3. The trouble I believe has mostly to do with time available and NOT attention span, though maybe it is 50/50 and if I am missing something 33/33/33. Most people do not want to allot a whole hour of "their life" at one time to anything, it seems. Preachers, one of which I am not, are especially aware of this fact, I am told. So, I really want to see you succeed at this. Your dedication and mind, your ability to bring VERY INTERESTING interviews to "the market" is outstanding. From a "world aware" lowly architect - me.

I think it’s also the KZbin algorithm which is an issue, but I have some ideas out how to fix that, - I’m hoping these actions in December will really drive more views…

I don't think I'd agree with your assessment about the length of these. There are MANY podcasts that are 3 or 4 hrs in length that are very popular. That's one thing I particularly enjoy about this channel. As to the lack of views, for some reason the algorithm isn't friendly to this channel is the only thing I can come up with.

@@markb8468 Well everybody has the right to their own opinion, in my world. I'm just trying to be helpful. I really want to see Jonathan succeed. Maybe the channels that offer lengthy video content have a different type of material approach. Jonathan's material is fairly specific. Jonathan suspects the algorithm as do many others. If it's only mathematical and it's not prejudiced in some way I don't understand.

There are many channels succeeding with long form videos. I'll happily listen to a 3hr video if it interests me.

Could be wrong but I don't think many people outside of Europe knew much about Ukraine before Feb 2022. Never much coverage on mainstream media in my country. I thought Ukraine was part of Russia... not that I had given it much thought though. Probably Russian propaganda seeping through. That's all changed now and I am very much in support of Ukraine.

would be awfully useful for posts like yours who mention media in their country but dn't name the country! Very useful for everyone to know. I'm a Yank and am not sure how much Ukr was covered overall but i'd say a fair bit in last eight yrs, though i was always on the hunt for such news. The US has had many personal links to Ukraine through immigration over time, and through ukrainian-jewish immigrants over the long time. Same w/ russian jewish immigration over the long haul of time. So there are pretty deep links to eastern slavic culture to the USofA, and specifically the subgenre of jewish eastern slavic culture.

I think something like this could be remedied by the people on both sides of the line recording them selves then stitching the audio in when editing. Altho, that won't work for every conversational partner, since not everybody is comfortable with faffing about with technical stuff. Also, it kinda increases friction to getting people to talk with. I think the easiest solution is to use something like discord. It's rock-solid when it comes to audio and video quality (nothing comes close IMO), you can just send the other person a link to the channel on your server, the only downside is that the other person has to make an account, and maybe that it's a bit "gamery", and might not be as intuitive with its channels and servers and stuff.
