I met Henry , in 2000. I could go the way of saying "he's an asshole..." too, but I don't think that's it. I like what JamesTKirkCobain up above said. I think that's part of it. Henry has said it a million tmes in the past, he has no taste for fan adulation and I say kudos to him. He is a man not ruled by pretense. He means what he says and says what he means. I can see where you'd think he's an asshole, but I think Henry is a man worthy of a closer look, unlike so many fakes out there.

And it's not always the case that people, particularly women, get fat because they're constantly shoving shit in their face. It's stress, genes and lack of quality time. Henry Rollins comes off as a man where nothing phases him anymore. Hell, this guy witness his friend being shot. I had a friend die of leukemia but not being murdered. I know what it’s like to lose a friend and my perspective on life has changed quite a lot. If you’re gonna do something, do it otherwise you’re just wasting your own breath and what little time you have. We can learn a lot from people like Henry Rollins.

To me he is a guy ruled by fear and he would probably be the first to admit to that. There is a lot of people like that. It's the reason why he never married and why he constantly works. Relax is not in this guys vocabulary. I think he is incredibly smart but what happens in an abusive upbringing is the brain forms not quite right, and it is incredibly hard if not impossible to do so.

You gotta remember, too, that Henry wasn’t brought up from an affluent background. Guy worked his entire adult life in dead-end service industry jobs. He didn’t have the luxury of music producer family members or wealthy parents who could keep throwing money at his passion products until they finally caught fire. Even now that he can safely retire financially solvent for the rest of his life, he still makes quips about how often he puts himself out for speaking events, film roles, etc. because a paycheck is a paycheck. I think a lot of that work ethic he puts out, not just in the industry but in his daily life (staying fit, well-read, etc.) spawns from the realization that someone in his position only has to do just enough wrong to fall from grace. You have to stay sharp and relevant because if you leave yourself out to rust then that’s that.

@@nroselius5551 well i'm not a Boomer, I'm gen-x the greatest generation, but yes the 2000s had their moments and indeed some great bands, but overall it wasn't as great as previous 3 decades, I mean White Stripes & others were ok, but I mean Nu Metal and emo were pale imitations of what came before and have not aged well already, kinda cringey. And now rock is dead, no new Doors, Pistols, Nirvana, coming. But if you grew up and loved those bands in the 2000s, that's totally cool and fine, don't let my thesis sway you, like what you like, keep rocking! 🤘

But doesn't really care too much what you think. Would love for him to reform the Rollins Band. Saw them 92 on The end Of Silence at Newcastle Riverside. while G & R were playing Gateshead stadium, Hell I missed Soundgarden, wasn't bothered abour Faith No More, but at least I got to see The Beastie Boys. Sim Cain came out and talked to the crowd afterwards. I really would like to think that he reforms the rollins Band for one more album

Boys don’t need Ritalin, they need the freedom to actually be boys. I don’t mean to sound condescending at all and it’s great that your medication has worked out well for you. Personally as a grown man I realized that all of the people who were so called looking out for my best interest by medicating me were simply trying to figure out how to deal with me.

I appreciate ADHD medication now because I’m mature and actually see it as a benefit to school and my job. As a kid I hated it because I was too young to be that focused on something. Doctors also give children a HIGH ass dose of medication because they think that the kids have a high tolerance for it when really…. They are just fucking kids lol. Right now I’m taking 30 mg of vyvanse but took 2 30 mg of Ritalin as a kid, so imagine how that felt especially for a young boy.

@@yoshewab1639 I haven’t read that but I can imagine. He does certainly seems less openly hostile and angry and a bit more compassionate in the interviews I’ve seen and heard in the last decade or so. I’d imagine that’s just a byproduct of getting older. I don’t know Henry and I don’t think I want to either but he seems to have turned his existence into a bit of a prison of his own making that no one can get into and he can’t get out of. I believe that’s why he speaks to so many people, myself included. a lot of folks get so down in life they get into drugs, or sex or other Vice or bad behavior. Henry, to me anyways, shows you can be all of those troubled things in life, and not go into drugs or vice and still come out on top. That if you’re a person who CANT deal with your own past, these are some steps to take to just live as close as you can to normal, by your own terms. And that instead of feeling like trash that you can’t relate to people, or that you don’t have family, etc- there’s still strength there, you don’t have to be some loner who just watches crime shows and hides from the world.

Rollins Is the man (although he probably wouldn't agree lol). I can identify with both younger Henry Rollins (then) and now. I used to be very much like that: awake but distant from most people, driven & full of energy, but most of all an outsider who was always on the outside looking in.

Henry is a very angry and sad person. His motivation it to prove everybody wrong including his parents. He doesn't want anyone to get close to him because his own parents let him down. He never felt loved by them because he felt unwanted. Why would you believe in some strangers love even if you're own parents didnt show you that affection you so desperately wanted? He keeps his self busy to fight the depression and loneliness he feels all the time. He doesn't know it but he needs to find the Lord. That's what is missing in most of our lives. No amount of money, fortune, or fame will ever fill that void. It's one thing to just go to church out of habit but when you actually learn to form a relationship with our Creator then everything else is revealed. Henry is a man searching for something he hasn't found yet. He's done all these great things by sheer motivation from feeling like a failure as a kid, just think how much more he could do if God got ahold of him.

Saw him play at Brixton Academy on his Come in and Burn Tour...he did an on fire Phil Lynot cover of Rocker as an Encore...he seemed a huge charismatic iconic guy on stage,i saw him enter the side entrance as i queued ..ironically i was the only guy that noticed him, barely 5'9" in a hoodie and so humble looking...i felt like saying "its ok Henry your secret is safe with me man ill not reveal your true identity 😂 i love this guy his music and attitude inspired me when i needed it most thanks Henry ❤❤

Interesting, i only watched the part of this interview/doc when he was talking about relationships, girls and such and never cared to look for more of it, now that i arrived to the full thing i can say without been a wannabe that i really relate to what this guy was saying in that time, you just get to that point in your life where you really don’t care about anything but improving, i wonder how much has changed his view now that he got older, kinda edgy in that time but quite true in his words.

Henry has changed a lot since then. All the things he said he hated about people, he has saddly become. In this 1995 interview we see a real HONEST Henry. Today Henry is on talk shows with his FAKE SMILE and FAKE LAUGH and acting interested in what people have to say, when we know he's not really interested. Did he sell out? Yes, in around 2006. He's also probably lost about 50-60 pounds.

Now he's all about gays and women's rights, or whatever his idiotic liberal friends tell him to be into, punk-bitch style not punk rock style. I've been to a bunch of black flag shows back in the day -- uh, wasn't exactly welcoming for woman or gays, wonder why?

This interview is 18 years old, almost 2 decades! If you think, that self centered fool is Henry Rollins today, you are the fool! These days he is also very apologetic about the huge 'a' hole he used to be. Look up his recent work. the guy has matured into a smart & courageous activist. Any one who has met him recently will tell you that he treats his fans with respect & gratitude.

DBSAABER Could not have said it better. When you listen to interviews not, he still has his punk anger and displeasure over the problems of the world but being a world traveler has given him such a compassionate view of other peoples of the world. He still doesn't suffer fools well at all, so he just won't associate with them. This is a humans, human.
