Henry’s parents are even worse in the books! Every time I read those books, the parents make my blood boil! In horrid Henry’s perfect day, they bullied Henry when he did nothing wrong, then they sent him to his room JUST BECAUSE he laughed! In horrid Henry’s horrid weekend, when Henry said “I wish I were going to the party”, the parents rubbed in his face “well you can’t and that’s final”. What’s the point of telling him that? He ALREADY KNEW he wasn’t going to the party. I don’t get why people think the parents are reasonable in the books. The horrid Henry wiki calls the book version of Henry a sociopath for telling his parents he hates them. I think he’s 100% justified in telling his parents he hates them

"Sociopathy" (though that's a term that really shouldn't be used to describe this disorder) is ASPD, anti-social personality disorder, a disorder where someone lacks regard for others. Two factors are needed for ASPD to develop. One, you have to be born with it. But it won't develop without the other factor. It's like a little seed in your head that can bloom into ASPD. So if you're born without it, then there's never a chance you can develop ASPD. Secondly you need childhood trauma and unstable conditions as an early adult. The way Henry is treated is absolutely trauma; subtle trauma exists, in fact, it can develop into C-PTSD, which is different from just PTSD. But I digress, my point is it's way too early to call whether it's actually possible Henry could have ASPD. And trauma doesn't gurantee that someone will turn out to be a horrible person, though it doesn't help (ASPD isn't synonymous with someone being "bad" anyone, contrary to popular belief). There's really no way to tell when that "seed" is there, and the stereotypes of people with intense ASPD are very unrealistic. Most people's ASPD is so underdeveloped that they live and die without a diagnosis. And even if someone does life with strong ASPD, that doesn't mean they're automatically heartless, immoral, and monsters. Yes they'll struggle with bonding with others, but that does not guarantee that they will be a bad person.

@@serball2010 Hot take: I think Peter and Henry have the potential to be good siblings to each other (with various behaviors I can chalk down to them being kids or Peter being raised by parents who keep labeling Henry as horrid, making him THINK that's acceptable behavior but unlike their parents, I HIGHLY doubt Peter means it, he's just a kid and thinks it "is" because his parents say so, but then there is also already various telling signs of them having that potential to be good siblings despite this and it shows that they still love each other as siblings despite the fact their parents don't love Henry). He is under a lot of pressure and literally believes he will be disowned or worse if he doesn't live up to the title of perfect. This will cause his parents to stop seeing him as “perfect Peter” he’s distraught and who comforts him? Peter ends up going to college and Henry studies art (I think it fits, a good way to vent and a thing we’ve seen him do) at least that’s what I think would happen. And therapy, a lot of therapy. 😅

Both Henry and Peter needed to be removed from their parents’ care honestly. Before any of you say “PeTeR iS tHe FaVoRiTe”, well, yes, while it LOOKED like Peter is the favorite it doesn’t necessarily mean his parents loved him, I just don’t think their parents loved either of their sons. Not to mention, there is something called Golden Child Syndrome, and if the golden child makes even the tiniest mistake, the parents would go crazy, and not in a funny way. You see, that’s another reason why Peter has to be perfect for his parents and he has to blame Henry for his mistakes and wrongdoings. While not standing up for his older brother isn’t really a good thing to do but at the end of the day, Peter is still a child. You really can’t expect Peter to make very wise decisions like an adult. And also this is Henry and Peter’s parents we’re talking about, they’ll most likely not listen to Peter when he (or, at least tries to) stands up for Henry when he knew they’re treating him badly and unfortunately, you cannot win an argument with parents who are narcissistic and egotistical. Heck, not even the other adult relatives or their parents’ even calls out their behaviors towards Henry and to a lesser extent Peter, they very much enabled the behavior which makes it even worse, those adults are bystanders

The sad fact is that Beano Dennis The Menace's parents and Season 1-5 Norman Price's Mother Dilys Price from Fireman Sam actually felt like actual good parents unlike Henry's parents. And they actually cared about Dennis and Norman. I think Peter drew that picture, solely on the fact that their parents would favor hanging up his artwork over Henry’s. Not for nothing, as you mentioned, Peter seems to have some awareness of Henry being neglected and not liked by their parents.

i have seriously never connected so deeply with a show. i was a horrid child, like genuinely HORRID. i remember when i was 7, for about 4 weeks i would bite myself on the arm then blame it on my sister (only one small instance which) 😅 looking back at it now, i realise all i wanted was attention. as a child i was so overlooked and jealous of my sisters special treatment by my parents which led to my awful behaviour. for a long time i blamed myself but now i realise most of it wasn’t ever my fault.

Considering I saw a suggestion about Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, I feel inclined to make a suggestion. Larry Koopa's tragedy and abuse (even from the so-called "heroes") from the Mario series. I made a video on understanding Larry and considering making a video just about his tragedy, but I would like to see a video on that on a more popular channel like yours. Maybe I can help since I know the lore through and through (Japanese versions and all, lots of bad localization to deal with) Larry's abuse doesn't come from any parents (he has none at least from what we can see) it mostly comes from the public and world around him, but also Bowser albeit unintentionally from him, while so very intentional from the Mario bros and the Toads label everyone they don't understand as monsters or things and as evil to such an outrageous degree, it's disgusting. Like, not sure if you read last time I brought him up, but I'm tellin' you, Larry's Life is quite a tragic one, and he's only 13 (currently canonically), debuted at 7 or 8 (estimated, we know 6 in universe years went by between the modern games and classic from Color Splash and Mario's initially established age, he is now 30, but was previously established at 24-years-old). I was thinking of making a video on most tragic recurring Mario characters but I highly doubt anyone will care about it (And I can only think of three at the moment, Bowser Junior, Waluigi and Larry, from 3rd to 1st most tragic recurring character) But this is a great video and I think it explains things well, albeit it was stuff I already knew about Henry but for those who possibly didn't know, I think it explains things well. Henry and Peter both deserve better parents than Fuming Francesca and Silly Simon. I honestly don't think Perfect Peter is _that_ bad, he just doesn't understand how bad some things are to say (because of course he's raised by parents who label Henry as horrid, he thinks it's acceptable behavior as a result as well as due to being a kid, thinks it just "is" in a light hearted way because that's what his parents say) and deep down, I don't think Henry hates Peter.

I don’t know if you’ve ever played The Sims 2, but in that game, there’s a premade family called the Pleasants who have a set of twin daughters named Angela and Lilith. Horrid henry is so sad to watch, henry is just so miserable because of his neglect he can't go to anybody about it not evan school. He uses escapism by pretending he will be king because if he's a king, people will have to pay attention to him, and he won't be neglected anymore. Miss battle-axe is so blinded by her hatred for henry that she never Evan bothers to think that there may be a reason for his poor grade, for him acting out. If anybody cared for him Evan remotely they would see the signs and call child protective service.
