Thanks! I watched the first part of this thing, as posted by someone else, but was really wanting to see Sean in action. As I love watching him on screen - he's always great, and very passionate in his portrayals of characters, good and bad alike. A method actor through and through. He makes a lovely and powerful Aske indeed. And he's the best part of this whole screen affair anyway, and Helena too, of course.Thanks again for posting. Robin Song

Henry was simply determined to be rid of Anne. The Lord's simply did as Henry wanted; Norfolk (as Anne's maternal uncle) should never have been allowed to be involved with the trial.

It was such a shock to English people, because Anne was the first Queen in English history to ever get executed. They thought she would just be banished to a nunnery.

Henry needed her dead to assure no further question of the validity of any of his subsequent marriages or potential heirs. It is reported that Anne herself requested to go to a nunnery. Henry never agreed to that.

There were no more nunneries. The heretic Henry had all the monastery’s and nunneries in England abolished when he broke from the Catholic Church.

The worst decision Anne ever made was actually falling in love with Henry. If it was only a game for power, I believe she was more than intelligent and cunning enough to played it much smarter. But, in truth, at least 90% of what went wrong was in Henry and those manipulating him.

Anne was a very brave woman. She was so bold and had amazing wit. If she had born a healthy son, would anything have changed? Henry seemed to tire of his lovers. I know Anne was innocent. Those were barbaric times when women had absolutely no power, even as a Queen. I pray for Anne's soul as I can relate to her unique independence and style. Thank you for sharing this video.

+Maye McDonald I think if she had born a healthy son, then her would be secured in her position, at least as the mother of the heir of future King of England, and she'd smart enough to use it, at the least she would not be condemned to death. She was playing with politics and her fall was so spectacular, such was the time and price to pay.

Maye McDonald , yes but we all must remember that she played her cards, she broke rules, took down a legitimate queen, made it so she could no longer see her daughter, prayed for her death as well as herdaughter. Alas she is guilty of the same sin as Queen Catherine, no son. But on top of that, many many people died as a result of the changes she pushed for. Whether we agree with it or not. This was the price she paid for all that she stood for. Death....

Getting more and more fantastical. Henry never hit a woman in his life, and certainly not a pregnant wife who was possibly carrying the heir to the throne. No, Henry used the law to get rid of unwanted wives. He only ever warned Jane not to meddle in politics, reminding her what had happened to Anne Boleyn, thus acknowledging the real reason she was executed on trumped up charges. Also Jane was shut up with her ladies for the last 6 weeks of her pregnancy and no men admitted, not even the king. That was the tradition then, pregnant queens withdrew from court life for 6-8 weeks before the due date and did not leave that room for 40 days after the birth.

Well, I'm shocked, I have never, in all my studying, learned that Henry VIII had a Yorkshire accent. What he did have though was a band of 50 Bagpipe players that traveled with the Court and Flushing Toilets in his Palaces which, at the time were called WASH DOWN BOWLS.
@JuanitaRichards
@JuanitaRichards 9 жыл бұрын
The fight scene with Aske never happened either. He was tricked into returning to court by another invitation from Henry and was arrested after he arrived. This was because his comrades did not believe the kings promises and began the uprising again, none of which was Aske's fault. He begged them to desist and to wait and see if the king kept his promises, one of which was to crown Jane Seymour at York. But Aske didn't realize the king had no intention of keeping his promises.
@juanitarichards1074
@juanitarichards1074 8 жыл бұрын
Aske was initially invited to court for Xmas and was given the cloak as a gift and a thank you for talking the "rebels" into standing down, but poor Aske had nothing to do with the second outbreak but was punished anyway. Henry VIII had planned to double cross the rebels anyway and renege on all his promises. That is also in Starkeys book, among many others

Anne’s uncle the Duke of Norfolk did warn her by saying she could take her relationship with Henry as far as she’d like to go. Given he was also possibly the father of her sister Mary’s son If her brother George (Lord Rotchford) wife Jane Parker (Lady Rotchford - the kings second cousin) hadn’t seen what she thought she saw, things wouldn’t have escalated. Anne knew the ramifications of being Henry’s queen and what that would mean for if she’d fail in giving the King a male heir. But she was the one who won in the end with her child ruling England for 45 years.

Henry was not out hunting when Anne was executed. He was hiding away in a country house where he ordered the gate to be locked so there would be no-one able to come in and plead for Anne or the other gentlemen's lives. Only his most intimate servants and councillors were allowed access to the king until after the execution was over. He did however sneak out in his barge at night and did hold a banquet somewhere with lots of ladies present, apparently to salve his wounded ego. The cunning old shit kept Jane Seymour hidden away from view as he knew it would not look good in the eyes of the people to know he was betrothed again before Anne was even dead.
@mrsdinosaur1009
@mrsdinosaur1009 9 жыл бұрын
+Brown Owl No he didn"t. He and Jane were married 12 days after Anne"s execution. Henry the hypocritcal bastard he was played the poor bleeding Martyr and only married Jane after a deputation of his council went to him and let them persuade him that marrying Jane was the right thing to do. However it is known that several young ladies a lot prettier than Jane came to court after his marriage to her, and he was supposed to have remarked that "Had I seen these woman before I would not have married Jane"

She did not commit these horrible crimes, but as hard the truth migth be difficult to swallow, she did bring the kings lawful wife great sorrow, by ignoring the fact, that God is against any break of marriage, no matter who break it. Catherin of Aragon was maried to the king to the end of her life, and nobody respected that. The king as a powerful ruler of England, should have known better to, but innstead he punished the church terrible. It was sad for Anne, but the real Queen was thrown away like trash....that was also a crime....
@leanie9660
@leanie9660 6 жыл бұрын
Sadly, the church is complicit. The pope said no because of Katherine's powerful nephew and because the ruling heads of Europe were against the split, not for legitimate reasons. The church has a long history of approving the dissolution of marriages (with a decent enough bribe, no doubt). Eleanor of Aquitaine was the queen of France, but wanted to marry Henry II, so the pope allowed her marriage to Louis VII to be annulled for reasons of consanguinity, then, approved her marriage to Henry (although THEY were just as closely related)....Henry VIII's claim to the throne was based on his great-great grandfather (John of Gaunt), but HE was married to someone other than the "great-grandfather's" mother..so...illegitimate!! It all means nothing.

It seems that you need to read a little more history yourself. He offered neither a pardon, especially not Catherine. it seems that some sort of deal was offered to Anne, in that she declared her marriage invalid, which would have made the adultery claims spurious anyway; you can hardly commit adultery against someone you were never married to, but that is by the by. Yes, this is horribly inaccurate, but so is saying he offered Carherine a pardon. Facepalm right back!
@saysHotdogs
@saysHotdogs 9 жыл бұрын
She was offered clemency, yes she was. I read Tudor history on a regular basis it's a hobby I very much enjoy. Whether or not he would allow the pardon is another story, as he was known for his twisted sense of his own valor. History isn't just one source. You have to source it from mostly ambassador letters, diaries etc. Then compare them. Anne never really had a chance. I've read that she could have saved her own life as well, admitting to her crimes and declaring her marriage invalid would've done that but that's highly doubtful.

Mande Peer Well thank you for letting me know that!| I woud have never have realised history isnt from a tv show or fiction otherwise! Just joking. Henry never offered Catherine a pardon. She was seen to have been unfaithful, may or may not have been pre contracted, and he resolutely had nothing to do with her after her arrest. I personally dont think he trusted himself not to relent. But her crime was far worse than Anne´s in that she probably was culpable, I don´t think Anne was. In Catherine´s case, Henry had to confront what he was, an old, fat ulcerous bloke, married to a teenege bimbo who just didnt fancy him, and who can blame her? Henry had a problem with the truth, especially when it concerned his own self image. So Catherine broke all the rules. Not only did she cuckold the king of England, she made him face the fact of his own mortality. Pardon? Not a snowballs hope in hell!

HogwashMcTurnip My take on the wives is this. Henry was the "spare" to the heir, who died at 17 or so, I think. The future King Arthur, married to Katherine of Aragon. Henry was destined for the Church.,Then lo and behold Big Bro dies and you are Englands Hope! Not satisfied with taking deads bro´s crown,he coveted his wife too.Especially when Daddy said No! Teenage rebellion in spades. I think he actually did love Katherine, perhaps the only one that he really did. Then along comes Anne, when he is sliding into that dodgy age when a man is still attractive, but starting to feel his years. She played her hand bloody well, but she couldnt keep her mouth shut, that Calais swordsman solved that problem. Then there is Janey, weak submissive Janey! Really? That would be the woman who played the same hand as Anne, but without the gob! I often wonder what would have happened if Janey had lived Then we get Anne of Cleeves, the only political match apart from K of A. Very smart lady ,got out of it with her head on her shoulders and a lot of Real Estate!| Catherine Howard was a tragedy waiting to happen, young stupid woman sold to an old lech by her family. Catherine Parr is the Carer. Already married to 2 or 3 old blokes before, she was the one to soothe his old raddled head. Even she came within a whisker of the blade, if you will pardon the pun, but her wits saved her. If you like Tudor stuff, take a look at "The Anne Boleyn Files" on Facebook.

HogwashMcTurnip Catherine was not offered a pardon but her life would have been spared once she confessed to previous sexual activity before her marriage to the king. . ,but when the news about Culpepper came our during Dereham's torture, there was no chance for Catherine to be sent away to a nunnery.

There is one side of the story..then there is the other side of the story.. On rare occasions the truth is found to be somewhere in the middle.. Very often the truth lies totally on one side or the othee..but it is EASIER for us to say the truth can be found on middle ground rather than pick a side. If we pick a side, then we must also determine WHICH SIDE is telling the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. This is not impossible to do. Difficult..yes, challenging..yes.. But not impossible. There are no grey areas in the Truth.. The Truth is NOT subjective. Thete IS a right and a wrong.. I will say that The reasons WHY . an offense are committed....these reasons why someone breaks a law or commits a sin..they are explanations..but not excuses..and these reasons DO matter ..they matter intensely. Without understanding WHY people do wrong things we must first understand that there are universal laws that determine right from wrong..our conscious tells us this much..and it would be impossible to be callwd mankind.. at all... without a conscious. Right and wrong do not change.. Yet it seems impossible to choose to do only right. No..not impossible with God..but through our own might..it is impossible. With God.. All things are possible. It may be difficult..it may hurt..but in the end we must choose to side with THE TRUTH. And know that THE TRUTH is knowable.

Yeah because it's really likely Henry spoke with a cockney accent! Lol. Seriously couldn't the actor have put on a slightly posher voice?

Star tracker.....yes. I found it hard to watch the movie because of the actor portraying Henry. That guy was a low class thug. Henry's mother was a royal princess....he would not have become so coarse.
