This is beautiful narrative poem. Revere wasn't hesitant. Let freedom ring.

@Elizabeth Yeager Paul Revere did not complete his ride. In fact, he had a partner, William Dawes Jr. and along the ride they bumped into Dr. Samuel Prescott. When they ran into British Regulars, Dawes was thrown from his horse and forced to carry on foot, Revere was taken captive and Dr. Prescott was the only one to reach Revere's destination. It is also a misconception that he shouted, "The British are coming! The British are coming!" Since the colonists still believed themselves to be British, this would not have made any sense. Paul Revere used terms like Redcoats and Regulars, not the British. The Americans were still considered British at this time.

+Kristyn Sumner It's called creative liberties, plus it's fun way to learn the story. It's kind of like Lizzie Borden, she didn't give her mother 40 whacks, it's was her stepmother (and her father) or George Washington and the cherry tree.

Yes I remember hearing the same thing... it is kind of a shame that Paul Revere got all the credit.... sort of like free advertising for Paul Revere Silversmith company after he died . I actually like the sound of him saying the Redcoats are coming the Redcoats are coming .

Paul Revre did one hell of a lot more than just ride for this countries future. Over the course of his life time he did many things as a patriate entrepreneur and person. He was an amazing guy. He probably would have been a truly great president.
@gardensofthegods5 жыл бұрын
There were other people on this ride with him who didn't get the credit and he got captured and didn't finish the ride but instead it was Doctor Prescott
@doughousholder60474 жыл бұрын
Revere's silver objects are very valuable today. His military prowess during the Revolution left a lot to be desired. He was twice brought up on charges of cowardice. His powerful friends came to his aid both times. Dawes and Prescott deserve more credit than Revere.

If you don’t look directly at the movements of the mouth the technology is more effective. Still my favorite poem of all time, (besides either Lepanto or Ballad of the White Horse by G.K. Chesterton). It is my favorite American poem let’s say.

In 1975 I was at a garage sale and they had A 1884 book by Longfellow. I paid $5.00 dollars for it .I have it put away in my collection. It has Paul Reveres ride in it. I wonder what this book is worth now? Anyone know?
@poetryreincarnations7 жыл бұрын
I suspect not that much ,but its a nice thing to have. Try imputting it into google and add the word sale and see what comes up or Ebay or Abe Books,
@gardensofthegods5 жыл бұрын
It depends on what kind of shape it's in. If the binding and the outside and the pages are all in good condition it could be worth something if it is a first edition ( always look for first editions ) but they always take into consideration the physical condition of the book . A long time ago my mother gave me a first edition of a leather-bound that had Mary Shelley's poetry and Dr.Frankenstein's Monster story.... it had some of the most beautiful detailed engravings . I moved away to another state for a while and left it at my parents house and they put it in the basement . I have no idea why they had it in a box on the floor . It rained enough to flood part of the basement and the book was destroyed because they didn't even know it had gotten wet and moldy . Very disturbing , let me tell you .
