I greatly appreciate this series. Also thank you for adding Shimon Dubnow's inspiring words in his horrific fate ( in the chat) I'm truly glad for the reported events of these amazing people. May their stories continue to be told.

That was wonderful Dr Abramson. It really filled in a lot of the gaps in my knowledge. Your command of the historical detail, broad trends and specific context was very helpful.

Your videos are amazing, topics, research, presentation, editing etc. Big Shkoyach! Question: in this video you said your Hassidim friends think you’re Litvish. In another video you said Maskilim were wearing short jackets (because they were against Kapotas), so I thought you were a Maskil… I’m so confused now…. Which are you ? 😂 Thx for nice work!

One of the bad consequences of the virus is that we lost your humor.. Please keep your humor even when you're only in front of a camera. Great content as always.

Excellent lecture. Personally though I felt that there was too much focused on Hasidism. I would have liked to have heard more about how Mendellsohn's reform started out as a "frum" movement, why it attracted some of the brightest minds from the frummest families, and how that danger could affect any of us and why it was a genuine war, whereas in todays times it's a non-topic. Namely I'm looking at items such as an in-depth analysis of Mendellsohn's Biur (which was studied in Volozhin of all places until the 1840s), as well as Mendellsohn's reasoning for the Duke's 3-day burial request as actually bringing back an ancient Jewish tradition stated in the Talmud (hamachazir atara leyoshna), among other things. Nu nu?

I agree with Rabbi Samson Raphael Hirsch, we cannot walk around in ancient garb these days but we also cannot throw away the laws of the Torah as part of our daily lives.😉

This studio recording (presumably for COVID) is much superior to the Shul ones, and not just for the audio/visual. In Shul, Rabbi Abramson's pre- and post-labeling his jokes as jokes, frequent sighs of exasperation and drinking over a throat mic, and taking unheard audience questions are super annoying

I really enjoyed this comment, even read it to my wife! Especially appreciated the "pre- and post-labeling" comment, which I think works very well for a live audience, maybe not so much on the internet. Anyway, not a Rabbi, just a regular guy.

okay, who are you and what did you do with the real Dr Abramson? No way the real Dr Abramson would not have told over the joke about the misnagid in a deadly situation and the chasidim trying to help. :)

@jack ruff the punch line really works better with visuals. He told it over during one of the Florida talks. I'll see if I can find it. Better yet, he can post it for a Pesach Treat [ that is, if they find the real Dr Abramson :) ]

@jack ruff Here is a version that is not as good as the Doctors (will do a more thorough search for his version soon) A very devout Brisker is praying at the Kotel (Western Wall) when, suddenly, an Islamic extremist grabs him from behind and puts a large knife to his throat. The Brisker quickly recites the blessing for someone who is about to die for his religion: “Baruch ata … al kiddush Hashem!” The terrorist, impressed with his victim’s piety, stops what he is doing and turns to leave. The Brisker, pointing to his throat, calls out impatiently to the terrorist: “Nu! Nu!“

Why the Jew peoples have the good culture and the good study do the fight to each other in the internal. Because the other peoples not the Jew sometime do the fight to the Jew too. Yes peoples have the difference idea of the religious but why do the fight and causing the hurting of the Jewish. 一箭易斷。 但很多箭連在一起是不能斷的

Hasidism is influenced by Roman catholicism and the syncretic Kabbalah, not rationalist, not in the spirit of Moses and Hillel the Elder
