Thank you for this, Dr Abramson. I recently discovered that I am a Sephardic Jew, a descendant of Juan Sanchez, accused of being a Judaizer & suffering public humiliation.

I'm Chinese, Catholic, and in Singapore 🇸🇬 and totally GIGGLED till I had stitches! And when he went 'Ay yah yah yah!' (something we all say as well here)... I thought I had converted to Judaism just listening to his lectures! 😆🖖🏼 Love all his lectures, for the balanced views but the typical wit and wisdom. Thank You!

Thank you for such great videos! I’m not Jewish (although my parents wanted to expose us to many religions so I did learn some things about Jewish history and culture as a child), but your videos are accessible and appealing to everyone interested in history regardless of religion or background. I am really missing the university experience because of the pandemic (my university wasn’t offering any online summer courses that I needed for my degree), and your videos are filling in that void! I’ve watched 15 hours of your lectures so far, and plan to watch more. You’d probably be one of my favourite professors if you taught at my university! Thank you!

I checked and found there were many recipes and one even mentioned treacle as being an offshoot of it. Here's one from Wiki: "Theriaca andromachi or Venice Treacle contained 64 ingredients. In addition to viper flesh and opium, it included cinnamon, agarics and gum arabic. The ingredients were pulverized and reduced to an electuary with honey."

Interesting I have very distant DNA segments I found on the Gedmatch DNA site shared with Ethnic North Africans and other Ashkenazi People the Segment with the North Africans is small so may come we think from a Sephardic Jew possibly a Woman in the middle ages who may have married or converted to Islam while her family did not. The segment also has Mexican people on it a very Sephardic signal in the DNA segment world. The DNA painting of the segment is fully Levantine in origin for all matches.

@@4trahasis There was no Islamic Caliphate at the time of the fall of Andalusia. There were six North African states some calling themselves Caliphates, Shia kings ruled by descendants of Ali. A joint force of Jews and Muslims resisted the conquest. Many individuals fought on both sides, so it was a civil war across the Catholic-Muslim divide. It was the failure of Muslims to get there act together that led to their failure. Their courts were places of high culture, music, calligraphy, poetry, science and high arts, unlike Christendom had been. The leaders were weak and decadent. When offered the opportunity to print books they refused because calligraphy was considered superior to print, that meant books could convey knowledge quicker and the Muslims were falling behind. Even the vast collections of Arabic works were being read by more Christians than Muslims who were preoccupied by devotions. A lesson for America and the rise of China.

I don’t know much about the history so correct me if I’m wrong, but I wonder if the Jews allied themselves with the Muslims bc the Christian Rulers were far more oppressive. At least with the Muslims they could practice their religion and were in some cases elevated to positions of power. Or just left alone.

@@alia1512 this is Spain 800ad -1200ad. At different times in different lands each Islam , goth vulgars and Christians kicked the jew out. Love hate relationships. For example king of France thought news was charging to much interest and not paying enough tax so he expelled them and learned the hard way they it cost him more to run his own banking

Thank you for your presentation. It is interesting how Jews (most) keep romanticising Baal (not talking about Christians here) over and over for centuries. As if their eyes are closed and hearts hardened. While Baal is deceiving and passive aggressive. Baal followers never do anything for Jews just beacause of the goodness of their hearts. G-D said not to mix with them. And we constantly fail that test. But, that is all happening so that G-Ds word is fulfilled.

"most of that has been debunked, the Jews did not seem to be involved with the actual invasion..." - @8:20 Not with the initial step perhaps, but then the garrisoning and other acts you mention, they sure assisted with / facilitated the subsequent steps of the Muslim invasion after that. Similarly Mattis Kantor in his 'The Jewish Time Line Encyclopedia' writes under the entry for 4471 / 711: "The Jews became the invaders' indigenous allies, helped them to conquer and then to rule, and as a result Jewish life in Spain began to flourish."

@Eternal Fisherman thank you, I am always looking for more evidence and particularly contemporary records. If he has ever mentioned any text (or himself made a video) on the Jewish response to the rise of Islam using Jewish sources, I'd love to know. I recall hearing of one rabbi right before Muhammad's time expecting a messiah or prophet or some such, stuff like that.
