Heres a pretty neat way to quickly and easily add engine protection to your Triumph 'Modern Classic' bike. The Hepco & Becker guard offers a cross brace which links the two sides of the bike together making for a very rigid structure.
Big Thanks to Moto Machines for providing the guard to allow me to review it. You can visit them at www.motomachines.com

Hi Tony, I have these on my street twin. They look and feel really good. And as Mark Masztal said, nice light mount.

I am going to get one for my speedmaster. Personally I think it looks fine, its either that or make a right mess of the engine casings if you ever drop the bike. Engine bars are a must have in my mind.

What you refer to as "the trickiest part" - getting a wrench on those nuts on the back side of the engine mounting bolts - is exactly why I came to this video. But unfortunately, you don't actually show or explain how you did this. Any advice?

Coming back to this, I am planning to add some lights. How thick are these guards? Would it fit a 1" bracket? These are the ones I'm planning to get www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00LV4MX9K/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=A2FD1QJ3QJ1O94&psc=1

HI Tony, how the heck did you get the top nut off that is under the tank? I can't get a wrench in there to grab the nut. Once you get it off how did you hold the nut to tighten the bolt? You say in your video its the trickiest part of the install. Did you have a special tool you used?
@mancavemoto
@mancavemoto 5 жыл бұрын
No special tool, just patience and ring spanners. You can always whip the tank off to make it easier

Were you able to tighten the nuts at the proper torque? If so, how did you do that? Space is quite small to fit any tool there

Tony, It seems the shifter mechanism gets damaged badly from a tip over. Do you think these bars stick out far enough to prevent this costly damage? Thanks for all the excellent videos!
@mancavemoto
@mancavemoto 6 жыл бұрын
To be honest I never laid the bike on its side to test it, but to me it looks like the bars and exhaust will hit the ground and keep the shifter clear. I can't guarantee that though

I have read on Triumph forums that the shifter mechanism gets bent just from dropping the bike and costs a lot to repair. Thanks!

After a 8 hour ride I managed to lay my bike down. I did not drop it or crash. I didnt engage the stand properly (a bit tired) or knocked it back a little ensuring the bike was in gear, either way i realised what was happening and managed to slow the decent to me laying it not dropping it. Part of the weight was seat on my boot and my luggage and when the bike was back up there is not a scratch on a thing, there isnt even any roughness to the end of the lever, mirror, exhast (twin) . Anyway, bent fork selctor in the box and a £500 repair. I read on a forum a guy laid his down on soft grass/ground in the same way and still bent it . So be warned!

I have dropped the Street Twin with no bars or frame sliders and the shifter mechanism didn't get damaged. Exhaust, dropstand, and handlebars kept the bike high enough that nothing important touched the ground. Ground was flat tho. @@mancavemoto cheers! I just tried fitting my Givi engine bars, and as some other people have said, there's not enough room to get a spanner in there without removing the tank. I'll save it for another day, and fit my new TEC cans instead.

Hi, I don't see why not. After looking closely at some pictures there would appear to be plenty of room. The header is obviously in the same place and it doesn't stick out any further laterally than the stock header.

@mancavemoto
@mancavemoto Жыл бұрын
Theres nothing in thr instructions, so i just used the torque setting for the stock bolts that are replaced. 40nm for the cradle to frame mounting bolts
@kenjohnson1280
@kenjohnson1280 Жыл бұрын
@@mancavemoto Are you sure it's not 105Nm?
@unwokesnake
@unwokesnake 5 ай бұрын
@@kenjohnson1280 When I understand the Service Instructions correctly (coming from the engine installation part) the upper bolt should have 105nm of torque and somewhere else in the service manual it is also told that the crankcase mounting bolt should get 105nm of torque. 40nm is mentioned for cradle to headstock bolt and cradle assembly to rear mounting bolt. So 105nm should be fine, but I will doublecheck with my triump dealer tomorrow, just in case I am a dumdum.
