VIDEO OVERVIEW
In this video, we explore the art of deconstructing ideas using whiteboards and visual note-taking with the Heptabase app.
Inspired by an email from Julian Shapiro on generating consistent novel ideas, the video demonstrates how to transform your favorite articles, newsletters or books into a visual masterpiece on a whiteboard.
The process involves defining the main idea, extracting and grouping supporting information, visually connecting thoughts with lines, and adding questions as titles for easy navigation. The use of horizontal and vertical organization aids in skimming for main ideas or delving deeper into supporting content. Additionally, the incorporation of colors and idea breadcrumbs enhances the visual appeal and accessibility of information.
Learn how this method can be a powerful tool for idea organization and exploration.

Thank you! this is very helpful. i just started a free trial to see if i'd like heptabase and i've just been doing everything in cards which is great, but for the mind maps i'd like to just drop pictures and text as needed without everything needing to be a card so i'm very glad that this is possible. i stlll need to try out some more apps though before i settle on which one i'm going to stick with for a good while.

@Greg_Wheeler what are some unique ways you've incorporated templates, tables, kanban, and statuses for projects or simple organizations of life? Can you put whiteboards inside of whiteboards? If so, how?

I love your train of thought Greg. I've just spent this weekend diving deep into this area of personal Knowledge Management. I used to use Evernote and then migrated to the Google ecosystem but got lost in truly documenting thoughts of my life. I bumped into your information when I looked up hepta base because of Tom at paperless. I'm always willing to learn more and would love your feedback.

Hey, thanks a ton for this video! I really appreciate it! I've got a lot on my plate with studying lately, and I recently stumbled upon a similar idea myself. Your practical example really helped me flesh out the rough concept I had. I had no clue this technique was already being used by pros like yourself! So, here's the thing: I'm currently a paid user of Miro, and I'm thinking of trying out this technique there. Hebtabase looks cool, and I might consider switching to it down the line, but right now, I don't have any concrete plans. My idea is to use Miro as a temporary whiteboard to quickly digest and learn new stuff. Then, after studying it using Miro, I plan to combine all those temporary notes into a final version in Notion. Given my current use case, do you think Miro is sufficient, or do you still think Hebtabase might be more appropriate? Thanks a bunch!

Hey! Yeah for sure the Miro + Notion combo could work. The benefit of using Heptabase is everything being in one place. But it still can work with 2 apps. I actually am considering using FigJam (a free white boarding app) with Bear Notes or Craft. But just experiment with Miro and Notion though. It may be a great fit for ya! Let me know if you have any other questions.

@@Greg_Wheeler Hey, thanks a bunch for the quick response! 😄 So, you've moved away from Heptabase for now? I find it pretty cool. If only it were as free as FigJam, I might've already made the switch! Yeah, both Bear Notes and FigJam are solid options! But the reason I settled on Notion and Miro is their cross-platform support. With all the devices I work on-Windows PC, Mac, Android phone, and iPad-it's essential to have everything seamlessly connected. That's why Bear Notes didn't quite fit the bill for me. And while FigJam showed potential, especially for visual and atomic note-taking, it didn't quite have all the features I needed last time I checked. But hey, things might've changed since then! Thanks again for your input! By the way, I'm already diving into your other videos-they're awesome! 😄

@@Greg_Wheeler Hey, I noticed you've also created a Milanote tutorial! I'm curious to see how it stacks up against Heptabase. Since I'll eventually transfer my final notes to Notion, I'm particularly interested in comparing their functionality, convenience, and flexibility for visual note-taking when quickly learning new stuff.
