A lot of men and women I've met in the military came across as much more competent and sure of themselves than those I've interacted with in a college environment. I'm assuming it's because we're held to different standards typically (do your job right vs do your homework right). When one of them mentioned whether or not the Marine's job could be done by anyone, it reminded me of a lot of people in my area who, despite getting the same training, just suck at various aspects of the job if not the whole thing. The reasoning isn't bullshit, Tyler didn't attend higher education and decided to join the military. Any logical person could assume he would then be less knowledgeable. It's not odd to think that someone who spends less time learning, would have less knowledge. But ultimately that all doesn't matter since I thought IQ tests were not what you know but how you use logic to solve questions. So for example someone who spends 8 years learning about medicine won't then improve their IQ. At least that's my understanding.

Information and learning said information all comes from different sources, varieties, and methods. @@jayhosh8126 lol. You can have better study habits, but the amount of information you can consume at any given moment is constant to the factors of how your brain processes. This is the fundamental point of intelligence and the purpose of IQ. If you are taking one of the subtests of an IQ test, digit span let's say. Your average IQ person would struggle memorizing 15 digits without the use of mnemonics. A person with a higher IQ, would be able to memorize 15 digits with ease. The ability to memorize digits is essentially what learning is, at least part of it. So, how many digits you can memorize in a short period of time is the limit of how fast you can learn something. In other words, you can't get better at learning. I doubt a guy who had half his brain removed because of whatever could become the next greatest mathematician after solving the Riemann hypothesis. EQ is more easily rated and provides a better picture of someone's emotional intelligence than IQ does for overall intelligence. IQ tests are kind of like judging someone's athletic ability solely on how fast they run a mile. Not all intellect is going to be puzzles and problem solving which is mostly what IQ tests are made of. Emotional intelligence is a much more rigid spectrum and includes more types of questions to assess emotional intelligence more broadly.

Being a Marine has a difficult preparation. It not only takes physical work but also emotional and psychological, sometimes the way they treat recruits / young people is horrible and they have to be training day by day. It is obvious that they take tests to know their aptitudes, they even ask them about moral dilemmas. Never underestimate someone's work if you don't know the value or effort behind it.

@@saaaaaame Yeah, I think that IQ does an ok job but in reality you can't rank intelligence, which is multifaceted, into one number. But I do think that IQ tests try to measure creativity. Sure it doesn't do it quite well, but IQ tests test your pattern recognition. Thus if you are creative, you have high pattern recognition, meaning that you are intuitive and can create different patterns. This applies to anything like art, music, math/physics, science, etc.

The outcome made a lot of sense considering how close all of their scores were to one another, especially when you factor in Maria's score. She immediately sense that everyone around her outclassed her and was instinctively defensive and attempted to build herself up. She's not stupid, just lacks self-awareness, which she claimed to have a lot of. You could tell by how calm the asian guy was that he was the smartest dude in the room. I was really surprised that Sada has an IQ above 115 considering how naive a lot of her views are, but I suppose that has more to do with her environment and a lot less to do with her genetics. PS. Sean probably had an IQ closer to 130 when he was younger. Fluid IQ goes down over time as the connections in your brain become less adaptable. Very cool that Kaylee had some affirmation in regard to her intelligence as well. As a pretty blonde, I can understand why she has the insecurity she does. hopefully she reaches a point where she doesn't stress about proving herself as she gets older.
@OkurkaBinLadin
@OkurkaBinLadin 3 жыл бұрын
"defensive and attempted to build herself up" - Which was dumb and counter-productive in itself, since none of her manipulation would have any effect on an actual IQ exam, lol. She just made herself look worse for no good reason in the end.

I think it was missed a bit how much better Kaylee was than expected. Might be true that blondes sadly still get estimated lower than reality. Also I'm kind of curious if this test gives rather high results or if they just picked 6 intelligent people, considering 4 of the results were really high (pretty sure 130 is in the top 3 percent of all people). The other two are still clearly above average. Love how some people bash on IQ tests, it doesn't mean everything but it is still a brutally accurate predictor for career success.
@gunsmoke5580
@gunsmoke5580 3 жыл бұрын
@@the_bottomfragger 130+ is top 2.2%, and its likely that the selection for the participants was heavily biased. People that are smart tend to doubt their intelligence, combine that with a natural curiosity and you end up with the group you did. All conjecture, but it sounds reasonable at least lmao. And I don't believe Kaylee was estimated lower because of her hair color. A lot of the smartest people I knew growing were blond, myself included(I've never taken a verified test, but I'd estimate myself at 125-135 since I was never below top 5% on standardized tests) and no one ever doubted how smart I was. It's difficult to maintain a stereotypical and incorrect view of reality in the face of cold hard results. She's small and really pretty with a somewhat bubbly personality, she doesn't have to be smart to be successful. She won the genetic lottery with looks, they most likely have a bias toward wanting her to at least be average intelligence, otherwise she has no competition in any way. People don't like when they lose by default.

I do know Maria a bit or at least have talked to her a number of times. To be specific about the person she is its not so much arrogance but she is very proud of work and working, movement and moving. She is a workaholic in my opinion and wants things to move quickly which I am guessing (and anecdotal experience) has led to less slow deep conversations. As a result her personal work ethic is fantastic but she moves to fast when it comes to topics which require a bit more "esoteric" thought. I imagine many years of this results in less ability to deal with "knowing" people. She is good at surface level organization of people which I imagine is what she determined to be EQ given that the level she works at is great from a job perspective. For a workaholic this is where importance is found. Generally I think her need for things to move and make order results in the appearance of arrogance especially in new environments but she has been very open to people so long as it's work or advancement oriented. It's rarely abstract conversation. She is genuinely nice but is very almost purely action oriented. My experience with PHD types has generally been accross these lines, very good and beurocratic at their field of expertise but I rarely have a fun conversation with them. Can't slow down and enjoy a bit of abstract/humorous obscurity.

IQ is probably the most statistically consistent concept in all of psychology, studied rigorously for countless decades, even the military makes use of it in the form of the ASVAB that Tyler mentioned. EQ was made up by someone who thought it sounded right. The fact that it keeps coming up makes me thing these people haven't actually read anything about intelligence research, they just saw a couple pop science articles, took a couple internet quizzes, thought really hard about what intelligence means to their life and suddenly thought they knew how it worked.
