Her First Race! Da Nang Criterium (Cycling in VIETNAM)

This weekend is the Da Nang Gran Fondo race weekend, with the road race (gran fondo) on Saturday, and criterium on Sunday.
Thuong promised years ago that she would enter a road race, but we have not been able to because of the global pandemic. Finally, Thuong-chan keeps her promise.

Thuong and Cruise you guys and your adventures are golden for me. I've been having foot issues most of the year and haven't been in the saddle since early - mid spring. 🎉 Congratulations on your finish places ans SUPER congrats for Thuong on her first time experiences. I swore I would never go clipless pedals but after watching the video of Thuong's intro to them it was the only thing that inspired me to change my mind for when I get back out there. Cruise, you're my inspiration for wanting to get into top camera ride-along work and both of you open up our minds to the world thexway you take us along for the rides in countries and places I would never have thought of. Been such a thrill getting to know you two over the last few months. 🙌🏾

Thanks! 😁I hope you can work out your foot issues to get out riding again. Clipless pedals can be intimidating at first, but Thuong is very comfortable with them now. Though we still do some long rides on flat pedals no problem so they are not necessary.

Way to go Thuong ! Tenth place for first crit is great. Good job to Cruise considering having to recover from illness and lack of training and still finished 5th overall. Definitely would not have the chaos in a race like that back in the U.S. How did Thuong's friend do in the crit ?

Thank you! 😊 I definitely was feeling my lack of recent fitness, but luckily being away helped me maintain a more steady pace to survive. More hard accelerations would've really hurt. I remember I used to enjoy watching the cat 5 crits to see the crashes in the US, but maybe there are less of those now? 😂 Thuong's friend was 5th. Pushed too hard during the race and no energy for the sprint.

Good work gang! If you had 2 bottles vs one you wouldnt have faded so much in the heat. Also ditch the sunsleeves for a race and use sun screen as you will stay cooler. Also stay seated out of the corners and run a 90rpm instead of grinding out of the saddle - just wastes too much glycogen and heats you up too much.

It was top notch and yeah the start was looking a little sketch for a second their as it looked like they were taking their time in shutting down the road. It was nice to see them try to block off the road but that only works for cars and not the motorcycles lol. Also was glad that you were able to film the crash but i do hope that you are okay and not too scraped up from that. Great video.

She was very smooth on that 180 turn as even some seasoned racers don't know how to do those 180 turns efficiently. She pretty strong for her first crit race, but if she drafts a little bit more, she could save her legs for the last lap. And the men race on the other hand is just as aggressive as the US crits lol.. glad you didn't go down!

Both of you did really well. Congratulations to you two. Glad neither of you were involved in any of the crashes. I think Thuong doesn't realize how good she can be and what her true potential is. I have a feeling her overall output was about 85 percent. Hope there's more racing for you guys. Wondering how her new friend did?

Thanks Brian! 😀 I also think that she's just starting to tap into her true potential. Being around other strong female riders is helping with that. Her friend was a few places higher, but they both lack experience with the sprint and didn't have enough energy for it at the end.
