Well done dear lady!!!! After awhile you won't even notice the overhang. Also it really helps in the rain and when driving directly into the sun. We just got our first Class C after 25 years in a pop top truck camper. On our maiden voyage to the eastern High Sierras I was extremely impressed how comfortable it was to drive (after the first 100 miles). That Ford V10 is a beautiful beast of an engine! My wife had the pleasure of driving our 31' Class C in the rain, while it was dark, during Charlotte rush hour, in a construction zone. She's a pro. You will be, too. Oh! I know you guys aren't huge fans of ovens in an RV, but I gotta tell you that my Mrs. Honey made the tastiest apple pie for Thanksgiving in ours. Of course they're not big enough to roast a turkey, but they do have their positives. I love watching your journey as you try to find the perfect C for you! Keep posting!

My wife and I have had our 28A Dutchman Express on a Chevy chasse since 2003 when we bought new . Two grown kids , and now six grand kids at different time we still enjoy this RV and have no plans on ever replacing in .

Thanksgivings RV oven story: Power went out in big wind storm on Thanksgiving. We had dinner half cooked. My mom used our RV and boat ovens to finish the meal. Had a delicious turkey dinner by candlelight! Lol, only time we used it!

We have a truck and travel trailer, about 50' or so. My wife will drive on the interstate going forward but I take over when we exit for gas or whatever and in the cities although two summers ago she ended up driving through Pensacola on our way to Orlando and last summer ended up driving through Albuquerque on our way to Colorado, she wasn't real happy during those parts but she does great. I always love seeing the ladies take a shift and give us guys a break. Way to go!!!

Good first drive! Our first RV was 36' MH we picked up at Camping World Cincinnati . I test drove a couple of miles before taking delivery at 5pm on a Saturday in Dec. 2016. As soon as we pulled on the Cincy beltway headed back to Charleston, WV, a large thunderstorm rolled in. Toss in wind, darkness and 5 lanes of traffic. Somehow we made it across the Ohio R. to the AA Highway in KY which I knew well. So we made it home by 11pm with no incident. But no two drives are the same. You will get comfortable but always be ready for the unexpected.

Just laughing at your cabover comments. Ours picked up a large hitchhiker in the form of a spider who built a huge web from the cabover to the hood over night. (a similar spider build a web just inside the curtain separating the back bed from the kitchen area. My dance when I ran into it in the morning heading for coffee was pretty funny). My daughter and I kept encouraging him to hang on as we picked up speed heading out of the campground. Fun times. Thanks so much for sharing your adventures and taking us along for the ride. @@Five2Go Our school bus is the mid size (around 30') and it is a solid ride. It doesn't sway at all or feel top heavy. Maybe because the Class A was an older one, may be part of it.

Hi guys, new to your channel and I've been watching your latest videos this past week, which I found as I'm looking into used class-c's and Cruise America has been on my list. I'm also debating on a travel trailer (haven't decided yet). We live in Colorado Springs, as well, and just over a year and half ago, we purchased a brand new 2018 travel trailer that was completely destroyed by hail 3 months after we bought it...it was a terrible experience with the insurance and the dealership, which left us gun shy to purchase anything else. I'm enjoying the videos, which are very informative, and can't wait to see what the outcome is. Looking forward to see how your rental experience went. Happy Holidays!!!

I agree with you. My wife (Erin as well) isn’t-a bad driver, but she doesn’t drive like me and she tends to go a bit faster. With that said it appears she did very well. More use and she will have more confidence.

She did great! She's a late braker in cars which really gets to me as a passenger. I also get motion sickness depending on where I'm sitting, how curvy the road is, the amount of light outside, where I'm looking, etc. The worst is looking down, so I can't really read or use my phone or a laptop while riding, so I feel like all I can do is just sit there. We're about to be on the road for 50+ hours over the next two weeks so we'll have to share the wheel!

Driving this RV around was WAY easier than everything involved in towing a large trailer. Knowing how to hook/unhook is a good thing for everyone to know though, even if you're not going to drive it. I'm confident Erin could have done the entire setup or break down process without me if she needed to for some reason, even if her confidence level tops out at 87% 😂😂😂

I look foreword to driving whatever rig set up we get in a couple of years. I’m not a timid person but know it will be very different from even the ‘56 panel van of my parents had (including the snowmobile in the back of it). I was a older teen when I drove Dad’s ‘70s something International pickup with two snowmobiles on a platform over the box so I’ve driven a variety of different vehicles.

I think driving big things is kinda fun! It's not hard, it just takes more thought and planning ahead.

One thing you have to watch out for in parking lots is tail swing and off tracking, so even if you do fit into 2 parking spots end to end you will probably incur into at least 2 more due to off tracking and tail swing when pulling out. That is why when in such parking lots I straddle the line and take up a 2x2 block of spaces in my 28 ft class A coach.

Very true! I wasn't thinking about tail swing while filming because those spots I parked in were aimed at the exit so it was just a straight shot out, but that's definitely something that seems to be more of a concern with a motorhome than a trailer. Our TT swung out a bit of course, but it wasn't as pronounced as it is in a motorhome because it's kind of cutting the corner to follow the truck.

I agree, for example in a class C I would take 4 parking spots and stop in the middle. That way as you leave you have room for tail swing!

Great video. My wife and I are taking our 1st RV trip (renting one) and we aren't just wading in the shallows, we are taking a 7500 mile trip from Alabama in a circle first going west (Grand Canyon) and then going to Portland, then Yellowstone and then Bismarck, ND, then back home from there. To say I'm not nervous would be a lie, I am nervous. The Class C we are renting is 30 to 32 ft long. The Outdoorsie ad shows 30 but the brochure I viewed said 32 (hey that 2 feet matters!). My wife feels more confident because she's good enough to back-up a truck with a boat in tow. I'm not nervous about driving in a straight line. I'll stay in the right lane going 55 and will leave the tough driving to my wife. I know turns require more room, with a wider turning radius but it does help that the RV does have a back-up camera. I think we will drive around in the church parking lot the day we pick it up. Now, I will say I'm nervous about driving the speed limit. We just came back from a funeral 2 weeks ago in Massachusetts and it really seemed it was extremely heavy. I rarely recalled a time where I could even set the cruise control and we were driving a CX-5. Lots of stop and go traffic. This could be just that it's 2022 and there are many more tractor trailers on the road than in 2019. I will start out slow, like 55 - 60 until I can get a better feeling heading west out of Alabama.

Should have had you drive northbound on 25 and get off at Cimarron 😉 I hate that motor city turn, it’s always backed up...We have had many snow days so far this year, my daughters school has had 5.5 already and we haven’t reached winter yet.... Growing up my family (6 of us) had a Class C Fleetwood Jamboree. Our model was very similar to your rental in size and design except the back had 2 sets of bunks instead of a Queen. We were part timers and would do 2-3 week long trips in the summer comfortably.

That exit onto 24 is pretty bad! Heck, most of the highway exits through town are awful! Luckily we don't live in that area so getting to the house was actually pretty easy, even when we had the 37' travel trailer. Are y'all still in this area? We've had a bunch of snow days too - we're really not used to that. Back in VA we'd get maybe 2 or 3 in the entire school year, not double that before winter break! They say it snows like this until May sometimes... 😮

Yes we live in Colorado Springs, southern end of town, daughter goes to school in D-12. We have lived in the area for 11 years now. Most years we will get snow up to Mother’s Day weekend. Last year we even had frost a week after that, we were worried it would ruin our Memorial weekend trip but luckily it didn’t. One thing you will learn is that Colorado Springs is bi-polar when it comes to weather, we will have 70’s-80’s one day and then Snow the next. It isn’t uncommon to have a 40-50° drop in less than 24hrs. We get most of our snow in March when it is a heavy wet snow. This season has been abnormal though so far.

@@Five2Go Either a CA 28a or a Thor Class A Vegas/Axis 25.2 (which will be twice the price of the CA 28a). Love the basement in the 28a !! The 25.2 is 4 ft shorter than 28a. We will be full timers.

You can do it! I know for a fact that Erin could've hooked up or unhooked our travel trailer without me because she always did one side while I did the other (bars, chains, etc). Heck, she even did all of the actual hitching and unhitching and all I did was move the truck forward or backward at her signal. She loves helping with all of the setup and breakdown stuff, but I never could get her to do the black tank or sewer hose... 😋😂

You did great! You'll see. It is much easier to drive then a truck and travel trailer. I have a question maybe you can help me with? We messaged on Thanksgiving about how I have the same grand design you had. I'm wondering about my stabilizers. I'm perfectly level, wheels are chucked, I even have the x-chock. But no matter what, every time someone moves the slightest bit, I feel it. Almost to the point I feel like I'm getting sea sick. Was yours that way? Or is something wrong with my stabilizers? Just wondering before I bring it in for service. Thanks in advance and good luck driving your class C. You'll love it.

Even with the stabilizers down, wheels chocked, and x-chocks installed, there's still a little bit of movement. It's way less than just the trailer sitting there, but you'll never get rid of it 100% as long as you're sitting on rubber. If you want to put some extra effort into stabilizing, try getting 4 frame stands and putting them in the corners. They look like jack stands you use to secure a car in the air but they're more adjustable than that and they're made for RVs. If you can get one of those on the frame in each corner you'll basically be perfectly locked in like the foundation of a house. We know quite a few people that swear by them but we never found them necessary for our bouncy tolerance levels.

I'm debating about renting a 27' class C motorhome to drive from Mpls to Destin FL for Spring break but I'm nervous as heck. Where do I get gas that's RV-friendly? Apps for RV routes (aka truck routes), and of course parking the damn thing. My husband isn't able to go with us but I promised my kids this year that I'd take them to the beach. We would prefer not to fly as I love the idea of stopping through various states.

These rental rigs use the same gas as your car. And since they're only 27' long if you stick to major routes you shouldn't have any trouble with roads, overpasses, and parking. They're really no bigger than a UHaul. You can do it!

CA explicitly says no snow chains or extra tire hardware, and we really didn't want/need to push it with the condition the roads were in. Sure it messed up our trip, but after two years on the road you learn to adapt and manage your expectations. 😂 We'll get out west soon enough, and we really would like to spend more than 3 days and not be rushed, so maybe it's for the best.

Enjoyed your video, & looking forward to what you purchase. May I say though as a former professional shuttle driver between southern Utah & Las Vegas. Watching her drive the RV concerned me on a few points. 1) When you turn there will be a swing out of the rear of the RV, watch for it. 2) You were reluctant to back out of or pull into the driveway but seemed to be relaxed and confident driving at 70 mph on the interstate. I noticed your hands resting on the bottom of the steering wheel, sometimes only one. You should have more of a 10 & 2 O' Clock position on the wheel. You never know when a strong gust of crosswind will hit the RV, or something on the road or jumps out on the road. Believe me, an unexpected crosswind or something else caused many accidents I came across when I was driving. I mean these as safe & helpful suggestions.

Thanks for the pointers! When we were returning the RV that following weekend it was really windy. I've (Brian) never clutched onto a steering wheel so hard in my life! Towing a 37' travel trailer in a crosswind was bad but the F350 was strong and heavy enough to keep it in line pretty well. The Class C in that same kind of wind was nearly impossible to keep on the road because all of that sideways force was applied directly to the drivetrain. Talk about white knuckles!

Absolutely! We always make sure to leave plenty of room ahead when driving or towing RVs. We also make sure to not change lanes closely in front of them when we're driving our normal vehicles!

Hi Brian & Erin, Just a couple of thoughts: You may want to re-title you video: ARE "CLASS C MOTORHOMES" HARD TO DRIVE? The reason for this is that I've driven both Class C's and Class A's. In my option Class A's are more difficult to drive. This has nothing to do with the length of the rig. My Class "A" only has a length of 26'10". The width is only 96" compared to many of the smaller Class C's that have a larger width of 101.5". The big problem is the "illusion" that you are driving a bigger rig in the Class A. My wife does not want to drive it. The other reason is drive train. They feel more loose and take more concentration to keep on the road ( I am talking gas powered not diesel pusher). If you get a chance you might want to take a Class A out for a test drive and see what I am talking about. Thanks again for the video.

I'm honestly not sure what you're on about. A Class C is considered a motorhome, just like a Class A. It's an RV with a motor in it - motorhome. Sure, they're on a different style of chassis, but both are quite different from the cars and minivans she's used to driving.

First I honestly live in a motor home..kinda ur in able to drive it.other then that its a motor home
