This is so timely! I've been screaming to folks to stop grid shopping and look for year 1 and year 2 progression photos. Parts are parts, you want locs!!!! Look at the locs!!!! Im learning the Kris McDred crochet method now and I agree its the best way to go for extensions. My other recent soapbox issue is that microlocs have exposed a need for increased regulation in the natural hair community! There's a lot of economic harm out here. Most people in the market are out here playing in folks head. Practicing in folks head for $1800 a pop. Its not right!

Thank you for sharing this video! I changed from 1/4”diameter, 4’ x 131 count instant loc’s to 1/8” diameter, 300 count, 35” instant loc’s. I hired a braider to part and install the loc’s onto the back of my head after I crocheted the instant loc’s to the crown and sides. Just as you showed I crocheted over the attachment area to be sure the loc’s were secure and could not be removed by water or manipulation of any kind. I made sure that the extensions matched the diameter of my hair seamlessly. It took quite some time but if a person wants extensions it’s best to learn the crochet method and attach them yourself! I paid for the parting but crocheted my handmade instant loc’s myself! 🎉 Your videos are great!🎉🎉🎉

I’m in my 5th month since my establishment. I initially wanted extensions because I didn’t like how short my hair was, but I just gave it some time and eventually I embraced my locks. They’re still short but obviously growing. I can wait to reach my goal length.

Can I just say, I love your channel!! You just saved me $$. I wanted micro-loc extensions done just like this client. I live in the DMV area and there are 2 salons that I follow up here and they are charging $1800+ for these extensions. Thank you for always keeping it real. I wish I had seen this video before I had my extensions installed. This video is great and very informative. I have mircrolocs/very small interlocked, but did suffer some of my locs falling out due to stress and waiting too long for a retightening because I had relocated to MD and was having a hard time getting a loctician. I ended up going to the person who established my locs in 2014, thinking that she had the expertise, but $2K later I am devastated and my 21 locs and counting have fallen out. Let's just say there is a reel up on social media with my head saying that the service was done successfully but that isn't the truth.

Isn't that the method used to put in braids? 🤔 I hate dealing with people who have no integrity. If you don't know how to do what I am asking, just say it. Treat people the way you want to be treated! I am glad you all are able to work through it with her and are willing to fix the extensions over time.

Hesitating over starting microlocs having an under cut with shaved sides and still feeling the pressures of "black beauty standards" I went down that same road LOL..... my extensions lasted about 3 months and i could not deal with them no more... I took that mess out and has been so happy ever since❤ and craziest part is how fast my hair grows... this is an awesome video for those who are thinking about locs extensions Thank You 😊 Cheers from Costa Rica!

That happened to me I have extensions it will be a year August 29 this month and mine are starting to slip out now and I paid 800$ for mines and was started like this I wish she would do the crochet method that is better and I reached out to her last week about it

I used the knotless method when i put extensions on my braidlocs for color. I also used kinky human hair. I started two inches from the end of my hair and tiny pieces. 8 months locked. They really hav to know what they are doing

@cybilrichmond3886 the best advice I can give is hair to extension ratio. You don't an extension that is too heavy or too thick. Too much weight will put tension on your already thin hair. Too thick will not pull through during the interlocking process ripping/ tearing your hair. You can really use any human hair you want. I have since switched my extensions from kinky to waterwave. I don't want the ends to loc and I wanted a color change. I used the same method. I have a video on my channel demonstrating how I attached mine 😁

Sorry I left out a very important detail. Research what hair you want to use and if it will loc properly or not. Be sure you will get the end result desired before purchasing.

I use the knotted method and my hair came out fine. There's multiple knotted methods that holds 10 x better.

What if you do this technique with kinky hair on locs? In the video the hair she used was straight. I have locs that have broken off due to color could I create extensions by just braiding the hair over the broken locs

Why not just have patience the locs will grow no extensions needed sometimes the extensions can damage the locs

I’ve seen girls on instagram and facebook crying because they did not take shrinkage into acct when doing their locs and their hair is shorter with the locs. I know you should have patience but I understand their pain. I have my 22” kinky bulk hair but I’m undecided on whether or not I should use them to start my Microlocs. I don’t want my hair to be short but I also don’t want the extensions slipping out. If I do use them it would be the knotless method. I’m not sure if I’ll have the patience to braid my whole head then go back with a crochet needle and do the same thing.

I was just thinking that. I got my locs 5 1/2 years ago and my hair was below my shoulders before I got the locs. After shrinkage, it was barely resting on my shoulders. Now it's almost tail bone length. I know ladies don't want to hear this, but it will grow and trust the process. Also, as your hair grows, it WILL get heavy and you won't want that extra bulk and weight. Length isn't everything.

I did the Belle Microlocs look (braids) on myself but with the crochet method. Less than 20 of 400+ slipped out due to me never having done the style before and how short my hair was then (2-3 inches). I redid all my extensions back in September and haven’t had any slip out since (knock on wood). If you know how to do the install and repairs as needed, it’s easier to fix.

They come out too. Probably not as bad as these but you'll see other videos of loctitians making videos about " that place in MD that folks are running to" for microbraid locs. They are coming out. They do beautiful installs! Notice there are no progression photos and I know several people who got disgusted with them and took them out in the first 3 months or cut them out but the use feed in, not a knotted base.

Strange, though, because there’s definitely progress photos on instagram of clients after the install (you can tell b/c the twists and braids look old and have started to matte). I do believe that they were honest about locs slipping out with the twists, repairing them, and also tweaking their installment method (whatever that means). At the end of the day, for me, there was enough info on Belle Microlocs that I felt comfortable replicating the look on myself. I can only speak on my own extensions and how I maintain them (I’m not a stylist or loctician). I have really enjoyed my extensions and I wish other people had the same experience that I did.

Has anyone tried the knotless method? I feel like even with the crochet method there will still be a knot at the top when you go to interlock. Any thoughts?

@@Gizelle-cs6ix no it doesn't. There's no knot to slide off the natural hair. That's the issue in this video. Knotless would prevent it sliding because there's no line of demarcation

She won't win because there are no independently recognized standards. If there are no standards then you cant compare my work against someone else's work and say that mine or theirs is wrong. Its just different. Its not the way that someone else would do it but that person is not an authority even if you have over 30 years experience.
