You're full of surprises. What did you doing with the McGregor? It's the best equipped one of those I ever saw. The Westsail is a peach; my kind of boat, i have a Baba30. Congrats Dr.

I still have the Mac - I’ll probably sell her even though she means a lot to me. She needs to be out sailing but after I get my WS32 here, I suspect I’ll spend all my time sailing her.

I'm envious of your purchase (and what I saw of your provisioning!). And I love the name. It would most certainly be bad luck to change it. Neptune would not approve. Good luck with your travels.

Hey Doc! Just found you and the Bear this morning. Julie and I sail the OoLaLa, a bright red Westsail 32 over on the other side of Florida. She's hull # 81 and has been with us for 23 years. Looking forward to many more and will keep a lookout for you and your friends. Merry Christmas!!

I was like you and questioned the name at first and I'm a huge Winnie the Pooh fan... but I kind of like it now. And the fact that your dingy is named Piglet makes it even more great! Thanks for always sharing your experiences here sir. You are a constant inspiration for me.
@SailingwithDrMarCo Жыл бұрын
I like piglet, Zodiacs are good, functional dinghies but I’m going to use my wooden nesting dinghy Scaphi as my primary dinghy. I think it’ll fit nicely on the bow. However I’m going to keep Piglet stored in the lazarette.

Hello Marco. TY 4 sharing your great videos. I have a MacGregor 26M that I sail on lake Nipissing Ontario. It gets windy and very rough on Lake Nip. What do you suggest as a sail plan for high winds and huge waves? What are your thoughts on a forestay for a MacGregor?
@SailingwithDrMarCo Жыл бұрын
I actually added a removable staysail stay on my Mac for a storm jib (see my MarCo’s Mac Mods video) but I’ve only used it a few times and just for practice. When the winds pick up I just double reef the main and heavily furl the Genoa. Having a storm jib closer to the mast is obviously better for center of force but I don’t voluntarily go out if the winds are approaching 20 kts or more and luckily haven’t been caught out in severe weather in the Mac except the occasional squall. As far as waves go, a lightweight cruiser like a Mac is just not well suited for waves over 4-5 - it’s a cork out there in bigger seas. That’s why I just bought a Westsail 32 - with a double headsail plan (cutter rig) and 20k displacement, it’s made for heavy weather. It also has a second slot on the mast for a trisail and a storm jib that wraps around the furled staysail.

TY as always! We have been sailing a lot more this summer as I have purchased a dock slip. I have been experimenting with sail configurations and usually have your advice playing in my head 😊. I had been wondering if I was doing something wrong since I find once the wind hits 20 knots it’s just no fun to sail the Mac26M anymore. Your videos, experience and advice have been very helpful to me and I truly thank you. I have been embracing the motor part of the motor-sailer portion of the Mac26 once the wind starts to tickle the 20 knots mark. All further insight and comments welcomed.
