Melinoe's candor and her general obliviousness to the depths of the Olympians' pettiness is some of my favorite character writing for her (which is even funnier when she's exhausted with their Trials and lets her impatience bleed a bit). Here, it gives the impression that Hera doubts her motivations and sincerity, when Melinoe's consistently been shown to think well of her extended family and either forget (or not know) their spiteful and vindictive natures have harmed others in ways more than her own Trials. Girlie is being sincere, Hera!!

it really shows how vastly different melinoe and zagreus were raised. zag was raised by nyx and partly by achilles, being carefree almost to a fault until he decides to look for persephone. i have a feeling that if hades was more involved in his childhood and life he would have ended up closer to melinoe's personality. hecate seems to be just as close to hades as nyx and achilles were, if he trusted her enough to raise his child for him. and she seems to be closer in personality to him as well(at least what he would have probably been like if persephone never left)

Considering Melinoë wasn’t raised with as much education on the relationships between gods and goddesses aside from their names- something that’s relevant considering Hecate trained her from a young age to be a weapon against chronos. Melinoë values all her family because she has only a painting to remember her closest relatives by- which is something completely different from Hera who has needed to entertain and endure the strife and squabbling between gods and goddesses for all of her own life. It’s an interesting dynamic where sincerity meets rightful skepticism , but Melinoë’s earnestness might just win over Hera one day.

I like how Hera's default tone seems to be one of barely restrained contempt. Given that she arguably suffers worse family shenanigans than a sitcom wife by way of being married to a man who just can't keep in his toga, it's hard to blame her.

There's something inherently noble about both Zagreus and Melinoe that makes them seems almost foreign to the Olympians.

When around so much toxicity for so long, seeing someone actually kind and wholesome like Zagreus and Melinoe must be absolutely dumbfounding for the Olympians and invite the need to help simply to keep that goodness alive.

I like how she isn't exactly mean, rather she's basically the most straightforward, which considering her husband, is an excellent contrast. The flighty Zeus and the cautious Hera.

Oh she's definitely mean, indirectly calling her ignorant and foolish outright. Accept it for what it is, but despite her meanness, she clearly does care about Mel, in the "oh you sweet summer child, please wise up, I don't want to see you hurt" way.

Mel is too nice and kind for the Greek pantheon lol. I think she is a great foil to them honestly. Hera atleast is honest and upfront with the fact that the Olympians are not morally upstanding gods and only care about themselves.

Hera laid it out straight “I’m the queen of the Olympians and the Goddess of marriage and you’re born out of wedlock. The fact you praise me and call me your queen is either insincere or ignorant. Considering how Hera sees every female besides other Olympians as targets for Zeus to literally fuck with in the actual Mythos, her being so doubtful of Meli is really on brand of her. Meli is catching strays and she doesn't even know it. As much as the rest of the Olympians are okay with her existence, Hera is probably the second most dangerous character in the whole game besides Chronos.

Seeing this makes me wonder: How does Hera feel about the House of Hades? We know she doesn't view them as Olympians, she says as much, but aside from that. The House of Hades had a very functional group dynamic. Hades remains faithful to Persephone alone, maintaining a professional relationship with Nyx despite how long they've known each other and how long Persephone was gone. Zagreus has multiple lovers yes, but they all are not only aware of each other, but respect one another and are all perfectly fine with the relationship. Trust, Respect, and Faith are held in high regard after the events of the first game, and even now Hades only has good things to say about everyone, despite their flaws. How does Hera feel seeing that, and comparing it to the dumpster fire of affairs, mistrust, conflict, and dysfunction that is not just Olympus, but in her husband alone? How does she feel seeing this group that she clearly feels is beneath her, being a better family unit, the very thing she is the goddess of, than her own family?

I think thats a reason why she seems to not like our character. Its pure jealously of how tight knit and loving our family is .

Simply put, Hera has always been one of the more spiteful of the Olympians, so the jealousy must be driving her crazy. Just look at the nonsense she put Heracles through. And that was just as much because his mother had the gall to name him after Hera to try and appease her. I feel like if she hadn’t done that, Hera wouldn’t have been quite as hellbent on making Heracles’ life miserable.
