I'm like ~900 elo. Even though the level of play is higher, these tips all definitely apply to situations I see in game, and mistakes that I make. Especially that tip about over-committing on trying to siege down a TC. I throw away mangoes like they grow on trees. Thanks for sharing these!

I think MANY of us like these videos a lot not for the coaching, but for the simple fact that you are a casting a game. 'Caster' Hera is talented and fun to watch, and we don't get to see you play that role very often, understandably. When you co-cast S-tier tourneys it's always a treat! The coaching aspect is also really fun due to your deep understanding of the game, but you could cast any (well played/exciting) game and it would still make a great video. Just some insight for ya, have a good one my dude!

I prefer the coaching. What I like about his casting is that I can learn from him. I go to memb for the hype.

This was FAR more enjoyable to watch than the 1000-1200 reviews. I think these have things that can actually be learned from where the low elo mistakes are so many and so vast that it's hard to even review the game when everything is wrong. This was great. Maybe even 1800 next.
@QuintemTA4 ай бұрын
Saying everything is wrong at 1000-1200 ELO is a bit overblown. Hera himself says that ELO is a lot better than it was 5 years ago. Also the majority of players in ranked are between 800-1200. One of the pieces of advice in this video was literally keep making villagers if you have resources. That basically applies to all ELOs and strategies unless it's some super all in strat or fast Imp.

I enjoyed this one, but it is good to have both higher and lower elo reviews so everybody can learn at their own pace. Mistakes we see here are representative of this elo and lower rated players might have some mistakes that are more glaring that they dont quite realize. We gotta send more recs :D
@alltmisc4 ай бұрын
I agree, 1200 ELO> games are too random. It is much easier to learn mistakes from watching pro games. It was my Guitar Hero philosophy back in the days, better to play on expert and fail a lot than to play on medium and learn without even using all buttons. I think what can be learnt by 1200 games is what to FOCUS on. Some recs show that the player has off balance eco for fast castle strats, e.g. too many vills on wood. The player therefore needs to focus on making more farms. But, learning deeper strategy from games where opponents doesn’t play clean either can be bad, since you never know if your strat was ACTUALLY good or if it was just your opponent also floating 2k wood in feudal age.

It's interesting watching you commentate players who make some unorthodox decisions or do a good job responding to their mistakes. Really cool to hear your thinking in more fluid situations - especially when you link that back to the big picture/basic advice for how the game needs to flow.

I think a reason a lot of lower elo players (myself included) go for TC instead of other things is that we often hear in reviews or streams from better players that TC is the most expensive building to repair, so the logical conclusion is that the best damage possible resource wise is to a town center. Might be worth making a video about that.

I absolutely love this coaching. I've always felt like coaching wins (assuming it's not a complete steamroll) is more valuable than losses. I can usually identify mistakes that lose me games (fixing them is another matter), but it's harder to pick out missed opportunities from a game that went well. Getting to the end of a win and thinking "I'm not sure what I could have done better" is the death of improvement.

Hey Hera, great video! Thought on not pushing the TC - the advantage I saw by pushing the TC was forcing the opponent to idle the farms (opponent only had 7 working on farms when TC being pushed). My thought is the cav were simply out of position by deciding to dive in. Curious of your thoughts on this, as I thought as well as damaging TC you are getting opponent off farms. Loving the tips and desire to help others, please keep doing these! :)

It occurs to me, after watching, that the small walls near TC act as really good bait. The opponent will feel compelled to return to this spot (particularly with scouts) since they "know" it's open. this is especially true when you let the opponent see what youve done, and then when they go away and their fog of war returns add then u wall on the outside (exactly as ShadyLama has done. bavo!)

When I see this I wonder what I'm doing wrong. Im on 900 elo. I go up to 140 vills, try to spend my rec and follow the guides. Maybe I have no talent at all. I mean the macro play is so bad even in 1600 Elo.
@hansoskar19114 ай бұрын
the even bigger mistake hera didnt really talk about was: not enough farms. double stable and 2 TCs on 17 farmers is not a plan. and neither is 4 stable on 15 farms. and it makes sense that no vils are produced in imp, there isnt enough food to make vils and also make cavaliers and those cavaliers are the only advantage he gets out of imperial age.

Hate to be this guy but damn, even 1600s idle their TCs at ~80 vils in imp? I swear every other game I play at 1100 my opponent hits castle at 19 minutes, drops 2 TCs and has knights coming out of multiple stables immediately, fully booms up to 130 vils by minute 35 and wipes me off the face of the earth. I rarely have close games, my opponents either resign without a gg at the smallest whiff of feudal pressure or steamroll me so hard you'd think I'd never played the game before. I'd swear I was just crazy but I've analyzed a lot of the recs of my losses. Is it smurfs? Anyone else experience this?

I wonder, would you ever take a bet where you wouldn't be allowed to say the word "mistake" for an entire month if the price was high enough? I swear it's your favorite word. Really wish you'd use a more varied less negative vocabulary, like instead of everything being a "mistake" something could be a "suboptimal play".

I mean if it’s a mistake it’s a mistake, I feel like he stays pretty positive🤷🏽♂️ no need to sugar coat the truth that Shadylama (and many others including me especially😂) make these mistakes. I understand not being negative, but I feel like we all know Hera isn’t like that

oh it's been bothering me for months, long enough that i've actually been meaning to turn it into a drinking game (but that might be a bit unhealthy), i just forgot when i clicked and remembered it 5 seconds into the video. he does it everywhere, its just a coincidence that i posted it on a coaching video, it couldve just as well been a podcast. also not every "mistake" is an actual mistake, when i consider a mistake to be something done with intend
