I feel the problem with Heart of the Ascetic is genuinely a glitch from picking stuff up quickly. Either that or it genuinely is because the unique skull is called "The Ascetic" and as an easter egg they made it not deal damage

I already played a Herc run with the heart of the ascetic (and deceased heart, hilarious run) and I lost life regularly as intended. I can only imagine that the combination of heart+dark ability disease+ antique made the games code go "yeah whatever, you do you Beelzieboi" 😂

It's a glitch with picking up, dropping and re-picking an item, the same thing happens with the power skull hp axe, you lose the hp buff from it, same thing with heart, it's a dead item.

Isn't the first form of the Herakles skull called "Ascetic"? It could possibly explain why the heart doesn't drain life, its *his* heart. EDIT: So I don't know exactly what happened but if it is the Herakles skull then the unique form doesn't have that property. This might need further testing.

Hercules is absolutely criminal with low cooldowns, and two of 'im is absolutely beautiful! It was nice seeing them mix in an upgraded Bone of Mana effect for that one, too! Definitely nice to see more Skul again, so I'm looking forward to what comes next! As always, though, best wishes to whoever's reading this, but make sure your bones are nice and moist at all times - it'd be quite terrible if they weren't (and this includes your teeth)!

The wheel face is back!!!!!! But honestly, I think my biggest issue with DM9/10 secret boss is that his damage is actually ridiculous. You can avoid him, but the literal one mistake can cost you so much health. One of speed form's attacks can do 93 damage, his power form's stun attack did literally 40+90 damage (no omens, using a power skull). I think the damage numbers are just incredibly out of whack. You could be breezing through DM10 with a good build, but one mistake against secret boss is just one life gone. It's dodgeable, for sure, but eventually one can make mistakes and get hit even once, and it just costs you so much. You literally have to play it perfectly in order to win, and it's only because at higher DM levels his damage is just too high, such that you can't afford to make mistakes. I love DM8-10 because the introduction of new enemies while changing enemy rooms was really cool, but the sheer damage numbers that enemies output just gets absurd. I at least got used to everyone doing dumb damage in DM10, but when the secret boss' basic combo does 40 total, that's just crazy. Don't get me wrong, I love the secret boss, but I think the best way to have fun is definitely gonna be DM8 or 9 against him, DM10 skyrockets his damage to simply too high to actually be enjoyable. I beat him like twice only on DM10 after watching you video on him, every other time I've died to one mistake and then destroys an entire life with a few hits.

Aaaall roight. The Ascetic with a lot of Life, I HAVE to try it. Two thoughts I've come up with. 1st: Against Dark Skul, do NOT clutter your screen with visual effects, you will lose sight of it and he will combo you. Trust me, I tried and died. Things like Lich's Deathtrap and Frosty's Ice Field or other will be an hindrance, if spammed. Go to the fight while having a plan: - get 1000% minimum on dmg - get chase or high movement speed (optional for some skulls) - get skills that have little area clutter - BE PATIENT. It is not a 100 meters, it is a marathon. 2nd: I think it is weird. When you fight Alexander after the Manatech God fight, you face an old and broken man with easy to telegraph attack and few hp. Well, if you let him alive for long enough you will discover that he has AN ENTIRE MOVESET of different attacks. Like webs of rays, pillars of darkness and half-screen wide explosions. Like, who is supposed to fight all of this after EVERYTHING else? I wonder if it is another secret fight you unlock by keeping him alive long enough, or maybe they gave it more attacks for when there is a Low damage High defense run. To be clear, I've cleared Diff 10 Dark Skul included. If you have done similar, please tell me more.

I have no idea why the Heart of the Ascetic wasn't draining your life But my assumption is The damage reduction from 4 Antique makes the damage dealt by the Heart go low enough that it rounds down to 0, so the game doesn't register the HP drain.

Look closely at 34:30 Beelz has 357 max HP, the coddule take 500 dmg procs, and he gets 413 max. Thats 56 max hp increase not 80. Maybe heart of the asthetic buggs it, hence not losing max hp?

I’m going to throw out a wild guess here and say that the damage resist from max antique is somehow negating the health drain from heart of the ascetic I tried paying attention to your health to see if it would start drain when you went below 70% but I don’t think it happened a single time since you took heart of the ascetic so there’s no evidence to prove or disprove the theory Also I really like Heracles bringing out the wheel because it’s a bit reminiscent of bringing a folding chair into the wring and I find it thematically pleasing

LegendaryStart is the one you want. Mr Bacanudo has made most of the mods I'm using including ones for Quintessence at the start and rerolling skills at the start. AwakeOnCastle lets you upgrade before starting a run.

It periodically pulses a big ring attack that hurts you. So either avoid the ring it shoots out (while still avoiding dads attacks), and kill him quickly. Or burst it down so you don't get overwhelmed. Depends on how close to dead the hero is.
