This was burned into my mind at SWAT school, we had to repeat it over and over during every P.T. Session.

I had the privilege to have Dr. Whitesell speak to my class at the police academy and feel like it made me even more proud to be a police officer! He is a very wise and inspirational man! Not only is he educated but he has more experiences for line of duty than most will ever have! He knows what he is talking about!!!

I remember watching a VHS tape of Dr. Whitesell, back when I went though firearms instructor school over 20 years ago. He talked about being a warrior even before I had heard Grossman talk about it. Something Whitesell said has always stuck with me "have a plan before you get into trouble, because you sure won't be able to come up withanything brilliant when your ass in the fire" (paraphrased)

I don’t know much about what other people have experienced, because I have not grown up through their eyes and their minds, but from what I know about myself, police are indeed warriors. Police lay their lives on the line each day they go to work. Call them pigs, threaten them with death or curb stomping, and you are no better than those cops who decide to stray from the pack. Yes, I am biased. My dad is a cop, I watch him leave every morning, and I’m relieved when I see him come home. I’m relieved because I know everyday when he leaves there’s the chance that he gets unlucky, maybe he pulls over someone who’s had a bad stroke of luck recently, who’d shoot the next pig they see, maybe he’ll pull over a felon with a warrant out for their arrest and although he takes this into account and although he has all the training he has he’s not careful enough and next thing you know my dad is dead. I don’t get to see what he sees, the things he goes through, the people he helps each day not by arresting others but by being kind and caring, by understanding that everyone comes from all walks of life and that each person has their own troubles to bear. I also know that when my dad gets the call of domestic violence, some maniac that’s walking around with a gun yelling at people, a hot pursuit of a felon, he has to prepare himself for the fact that he may have to take a human life. These are the struggles of a warrior. A pig? Maybe, but if he’s a pig then pig’s must be pretty damn courageous. I know that out there is another kid who sees his dad leave for work each day and is relieved when he comes home safe not because he is a cop but because he is a man of color, poor, left the short straw by a society that illegitimizes his disposition. struggling to work for his children, trying to work at any job that helps him support for his family, and each day when he leaves he risks his life, not because of the terrible pigs and their murderous tendencies but because of the racial divide. Not because we see each other as different but because we do not live life through each others eyes. In a way we are a lot alike but we don’t see it that way, in fact some like me are born in such well kept circumstances that we assume that every child of America is inclined to live in the same situations that we were. Thinking that the racial divide was broken long ago with the end of segregation. We see each other as equal, yet we don’t realize the problems each other is placed under. I will always believe that police are Warriors. They hold their banner high, they are subjected to situations, some of which could be solved with rational thinking if more time was allowed, but life isn’t always fair. The warriors job is to protect us, not only from those who wish to hurt us but from ourselves. A warrior is more than just a mindless drone who does whatever they’re told, a warrior is compassionate, kind, caring, intelligent, direct, concise, strong-willed, and alone. Just because you have the pleasure of living the high life, never having to think about those who protect you, does not make those who protect you “pigs”. Just because you can’t see something does not mean it doesn’t exist. Remember we are all different from different walks of life, and in this way we are similar, never really able to know how we all see the world differently. My dad is a warrior, those who stand against oppression and their poor disposition without causing cruelty and destruction are warriors. Warriors are strong willed. Slanderers only bring us down. Be a warrior, stand up with pride, and bear the weight of the world.

The problem...is that they ask you to take sides and most do. The truth, comprimise, moving forward...lies balanced in the center of both extremes. Taking a side and refusing the "other side," i believe, Sir, is the very defintion of both extremism...and insanity.

This oration is pretty sick, really. We need warriors to stop speeders on the interstate, the primary function of the Indiana State Police? I think not--we only need a few warriors in the police force, on the SWAT teams. The rest would do better if they were diplomats. It's precisely this us-vs-them attitude that makes people disrespect the cops. By the way, the Heraclitus "quotations" are not genuine.

This is hilariously ignorant. Heraclitus never trained warriors, he was a philosopher. He went by "The Obscure" and "The Weeping Philosopher". He never made the statement that HE trained these men. He was talking about the men that were trained in the city that he grew up in. However, I'm sure that the men and women that this idiot was talking to ate his quote right up. Just goes to show that leaders can and will take whatever quote from history and use it in their own way to brainwash those below them. Here is the real quote, "Out of every one hundred men, ten shouldn't even be there, eighty are just targets, nine are the real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the one, one is a warrior, and he will bring the others back."
@alisonmeyer417410 жыл бұрын
You are thinking of a different man named Heraclitus. The man he is most likely referring to is Heraclitus of Cyme in Aeolis, a general. There are many men in ancient history named Heraclitus, and one was a philosopher and commentor on Homer. Although I find White sell to sound like a loudmouth, I would not go as far a calling him an "idiot".
