The most favorite memory of my mother was when my mother, my sisters, and myself were dancing to this song back in the summer of 79. For the first five years of my life my mother was a drug addict, and she had a bad overdose that year. The county almost took us away from her, and the only way she could get us back was if she got clean. She came home, and we turned on the radio...She heard this song, grabbed us, and started dancing. That was the happiest I ever saw her, and there were few times she was happy, but she was so glad to be with us. My mother stayed clean for us, and she never used again. But this song will always be special

Back in 1980 I put on this song for my 85-year old grandmother, who was raised on a farm in Czechoslovakia. Didn't speak much English, and never listened to music. When the intro started, she perked up and proclaimed, "It makes me want to dance." So, we did! Thanks, Mr. Alpert.

I remember playing 'This Guy is in Love with You'. I played the trumpet part and my music teacher played the accompanying piano part. Great memories! I played through high school then switched to sports in college. The allure of the soccer pitch was too much. I have thought about picking up a horn and playing again. I use to always want a Bach Strat but could not afford one in high school (they were a boat load in 70's dollars). Well, now I can afford many of them, so if I ever play again, yes it will be a Bach Strat!

This song is one of the best ever composed. It is timeless. I graduated high school in 1979. The 70s were a Golden Age for not just music but life as a young person also. Words will never do that time justice. You had to be a part of it to understand. This magic lingered on into the early 80s but slowly dissipated and was totally gone by 1984.
@alexmala64834 жыл бұрын
Yes Jeff, the '70s were great for us (we're about the same age as I graduated HS in 1980) but I think the best years started about early '50s and we just caught the tail end of that good era. Still, we're blessed. Think about those born in the '70s and '80s. What did they grow up with? I feel really sorry for them.

They for the most part , fly gals, fly everything. Nowadays the cars are plexiglass , the phony deception in people , fake thugs fake drugs, ??? Don' t remind me it can lead to deep depression

@@alexmala6483 LOL! It's funny you say that about those of us born in the 70's and 80's, because we say the same about those born after us. Music really did seem pretty bleak by the time the century changed. But as far as what I grew up with? I was born in 79 and grew up with not only 80's and 90's music, but also the music my parents enjoyed. There is a lot of great music to be found in those two generations. The 70's did seem more laid back, though. They really cracked down on things that made partying fun by the time I was a teenager. Raising the drinking age and hitting us 80's kids hard with anti-drug propaganda...
