Herb Alpert

Күн бұрын

"Rise" is a song written by Andy Armer and Randy Badazz Alpert, and first recorded by trumpeter Herb Alpert. The instrumental track was included on Alpert's solo album "Rise" and released as a single in 1979. It reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in October of that year and remained in the top position for two weeks. Herb Alpert thus became the first (and only) artist to reach the top of the Hot 100 with a vocal performance ("This Guy's in Love with You", 1968) as well as an instrumental performance. "Rise" also spent one week atop the adult contemporary chart. "Rise" was successful on the other charts, peaking at number four on the R&B chart and number seventeen on the dance chart. The recording also received a Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance. Songwriters Andy Armer and Randy Badazz Alpert were both nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Composition. The single, "Rise" has sold more then a million copies.

Herb Alpert is a certified legend! Loved his music as a kid and Rise is a classic twice, the original and the section starting at 3:12 that became the beat for Hypnotize by the Notorious BIG. His music transcends generations.

Same impact on me also! First remember hearing this song riding in my dad’s car late at night as our family was driving back home to Michigan from Ohio. My grandfather had passed and we were in Ohio all week for his funeral. First real experience for me losing someone I cared about and understanding it as I was nine years old at the time. Hearing this song always reminded me of my grandfather and also my dad because I knew how sad he was to lose his father. Amazing how music connects us to life.

Don't forget that apart from Herb's mighty talents as a musician he is also a top music industry exec. He co started A and M records which launched the careers of the Carpenters and The police amongst many others. I remember seeing an interview with sting who said it was a great label too be in. The studios were down stairs from the offices, and the biz men upstairs Herb included, would come down and give advice or even contribute as they were pretty hot musicians themselves.

This song to me is a feel good love song. It's a full force, no nonsense song that makes the listener feel the vibes that could only bring pride and love. Mr. Albert's performance shines through with gusto, as he lets his trumpet do the "singing". Overall, this song should sell more today and introduce the Meleniums to the sounds that could only be Herb Alpert.

@Herb Alpert I'm in my 40's and I think I was 5 or 6 when I first watched this video. Early morning we had this TV show with some news, a section dedicated to children and then a music video would follow. Dad and I watched this video in different occasions while getting ready to go to to my daycare and then to my school. The way it transformed our mood was amazing. I was very attached to my parents and every morning it would be so difficult for me to leave home. This video among others cheered me up. The scene at the beach always felt relatable. I'm Caribbean and in my 5 year old mind I thought it could perfectly well take place in my country. I never learned your name until recently, dear Herb Alpert, but your music has made you unforgettable ♥️. Thank you so much. This music and this video are a piece of one of my most valuable treasures in life.

Sounds like you need to broaden your musical appreciation a bit. To understand that musicians have take parts from songs and music since time began. Hip Hop and Rap artists just need beats. Hence the lifted drum loop. If you listened to ELO you will hear the Beatles. If you listen to Emerson Lake and Palmer, you will hear phrases almost lifted wholesale, by Keith Emerson, from practically anything by Dave Brubeck. Particularly Blue Rhonda A La Turk. Just the genetics of music. That’s all it is.
