Allen, your video of your beautiful vegetable garden really inspired me to start mixing in the FLOWERS! Why hadn’t I thought of this before! I’m going to enlarge it (smile) and add Russian Sage, Catmint, some tall garden phlox and who knows what else-some salvia...lavender...all the things I’ve not tried because other areas of our property are not as well drained as the veggie garden areas. Whohooo! Thanks for your inspirational and informational and frankly stunning videos and insight!! By the way, that bouquet of garden/farm tools hanging on the wall behind you is just too cool!! And the artwork you’ve done is just amazing, and that espalier form on the wall! Wow!!

Hi Allen - You do such a great job explaining things. I enjoyed this video so much and learned a lot. I have some lavender to plant and will be planting it in concrete blocks! We have clay soil here in Tennessee and lavender sure hates it feet to stay wet. One of my favorite herbs is Dill. It has come back from last year and is doing really good. I didn’t realize it would come back but it’s a great bonus for me. Thanks for a great video. Would love to visit there one day.

That's a great idea for lavender. I, too, am a killer of lavender. As much as I might try to force it grow in my yard, my SE Michigan soil (literally against Lake Erie) is just too damp and too clay. I will have to take your idea and run with it. On another note, I'm disappointed no one in the crowd got your alfalfa joke. I'd love to take my family to Moss Mountain Farm and learn from you and your garden.

I love plants. Specially the ones I can consume. I have a lot of herbs and a few fruit trees. My garden is not too big. But I use every little space I can grow something. Recently I am into edible flowers and wild edible plants. I Find out that that I have some wild edible weeds. I have the same Issue with lavender. Every year I buy lavender to grow. First year they do well, next year they die on me. I will try your technique. With the clay pots. I just found your videos. And love them. Your are so funny and enjoyable to watch. Thank you for showing us your knowledge.

What a charming, humorous presentarion! 'Tuscan Blue' flowers in February at Moss Mountain? Geez. Here in Pittsburgh it's deep midwinter then and I am anxiously looking for signs of life in the Herb Garden! I gave my Mints a small hill off the Kitchen all for themselves. Peppermint, Spearmint, Lemon Balm...Hyssop too. They riotously coexist with wild Violets - which gave.me beautiful jars of Violet Syrup this year... Up North here I do better with English Lavenders...they survive some miserable winters...Hidcote is flowering now

I have watched this video 3x , it helps me retain all the good info he gave🌿 I meant to ask , what is the container made of and what kind of containers do you recommend planting herbs in to overwinter outside ? 😊
@PAllenSmith4 жыл бұрын
The container in the video is a food safe molded plastic from Crescent Garden. Depends on how cold you’re talking. Gotta be careful with the terra cotta. Something thick and give it wins protection with a structure or shrub.
